Loved the review. Interesting color choice as well. The chrome bits gel well with the color and don't seem overdone.

I'd be keeping an eye on this thread to know what tyres you choose to upgrade from the stock Apollos. My Taigun has a similar tyre size (205/55 R17) and I think it is odd given the lack of choices for the 17'ers.

This is an unbelievable honour; something I couldn't have imagined when I first signed up. Thank you!

Thanks a lot, glad to hear that! This car can truly give some much more expensive offerings a run for their money; a flagbearer for the D2 segment.

Thank you very much. Astute observation on how the chrome suits this colour, but looks a little excessive on some other shades (personal opinion). As for the tyres, the upgrade won't happen for a while, but I would consider the default choice to be Michelin Primacy 4STs. Availability outside large cities may be some of a challenge, but well worth the effort I'd say. As for other options, Falken seems to have a good reputation from what I've heard. Perhaps the wheel and tyre upgrade thread can help you out here.

Thank you for such a detailed and beautiful review. I am sure this review will result in lot of people opting for the Superb.

I wanted to check if the sunroof flaw was resolved for you. Mine also squeaks / rattles. After some day long procedure done by the service centre, the issue disappeared for a few days only to come back with a vengeance!

So far, so good. It hasn't reappeared. However, the fix was only carried out last Saturday, so I guess it'll take a little longer to truly see how effective the fix was. Also, could you describe the sound in a little more detail? Does it sound like it's coming from the panel itself or the fittings around it? The sound in ours seemed to come from the latter, almost sounding like subdued knocks. It also occurred only on surfaces with undulations that weren't straight (for example, on a poorly leveled concrete road but not on a series of speed bumps).

The exact sound is hard to describe but is similar to something when you stress the sunroof glass - like it is being forced in some direction from some angle (the krr or the kttt sound). For me it comes on any undulations - say on an uneven road (without potholes), on potholes, speed bumps - but not on even tar / concrete road. The sound appears to come from the rear end of the sunroof.

The only way I avoid this noise is by opening the sunroof glass by a few millimetres.

Your description does have similarities to what I'd noticed, apart from the stressing sound. It wouldn't hurt taking your car to the service centre for a diagnosis, as it's still under warranty. I'm unsure of the technicalities of the fix, but I do know that a specialist team carried it out. If your service centre recognises this issue for you too, it should hopefully not be much of a problem.

This worked on our car too. The issue seems to be very similar. Good luck with getting it resolved! Do let me know how it goes.

2021 Superb L&K: Update

Update:

It's already been exactly a year since the Superb joined our garage; the 3rd of September, 2021 was the delivery date! (Note the timestamp.) How time flies.
A Blue Beauty | Our 2021 Skoda Superb L&K | Ownership Review | 25,000 km up-inkedsuperb-delivery-me.jpg

Service:

The rattle coming from around the sunroof has now been sorted by the service centre. Those familiar with Hyderabad's ISB road will know that one side is level asphalt, while the other is terribly leveled "white-topped" concrete. The rattle did not occur even once on a drive on the entirety of that section, so I tentatively assume that it's now gone for good.

Turns out that the wheel balancing was not properly done, so we got that sorted too. In the process, a puncture in the front left tyre that was slowly leaking air was discovered; also fixed. Multiple visits to the service centre were required in total (one for the general service, another for the sunroof fix) but all was fixed in the end; good enough.

Meanwhile, every single drive with this beauty remains as enjoyable as ever. Dusshehra vacations are roughly a month away; a possible excuse for a road trip!

Until next time. Cheers!

Is this something like ADAS and does the car have radar? Does the car break automatically at any speed if it spots humans / 2 or 4 wheelers?

I couldnt find any mention of this in the brochure so thought of asking.

I know that the Indian car isn't equipped with ADAS for sure, neither does it have radar. The features I was referring to come under one system: maneuver braking, as termed by the car. I believe it uses the cameras for the 360° parking camera and the parking sensors to apply the brakes in case there's an obstacle that the car is approaching (and isn't slowing down for). In my experience, I've only seen this in action at low speeds, but this discussion (Skoda Superb : Official Review) suggests it works at higher speeds too. I'm unsure about the types of situations where this system would activate, though.

This isn't mentioned even in the owner's manual for some reason (or, at least I wasn't able to find it).

Wow that is indeed “simply clever” - love that they have built it in even without adas!!

I’ve been struggling between tucson and superb as i am in the market for a new car. Love the superb but the apparent withdrawal of superb in Feb is putting me off.

Oh, there are so many useful features and little touches like this, like the automatic air recirculation and automatic supplementary heater I mentioned in the review. I keep discovering new things even a year after the purchase! Just this week I came across the massive selection of pre-installed ringtones you have for when you get a call on bluetooth. And, I had my phone connected via bluetooth once and started taking a video. That's when I discovered the car automatically mutes the audio until you're done! The convenience factor in this car is massive.

I don't think part availability will be much of an issue, since you can find parts for Lauras and Yetis at most authorised service centres even today. In fact, I think independent garages specialising in German cars might be a better way to source parts, especially for any car on based on the MQB platform. If resale value is a concern though, then the Superb will not fare too well, being a sedan that's set to be discontinued soon.

These two cars are very different machines that cater to different requirements. A Superb is fantastic at being a fast, practical and comfortable car that offers an insane amount of value for money, while a Tucson excels at offering a ton of features and bling. Good luck with your decision.

2021 Superb L&K: Update (cracked windshield)

Update:

The car crossed 10000 kilometres today! Couldn't take a picture at the exact reading since I was not present at the time, but I was able to take one a while later.
A Blue Beauty | Our 2021 Skoda Superb L&K | Ownership Review | 25,000 km up-odometer-10k.png

Unfortunately, another, much less celebratory event occurred on the same drive. Cruising at 100 km/h on the ORR, a sizeable rock made a severe impact on the windshield, cracking it immediately. I'm pretty sure this requires an immediate replacement of the windshield, so we will be taking the car to the service centre tomorrow. The major expense is unavoidable, since this is a question of safety, but I am very worried about how well the replacement will be carried out. The last thing I want is the cabin ending up sounding like a hurricane at highway speeds due to an improper fitting, or worse, water leaking into the cabin! Fingers crossed.
A Blue Beauty | Our 2021 Skoda Superb L&K | Ownership Review | 25,000 km up-windshield-crack.png

The crack extends all the way to the base of the windshield (even below the windshield wipers), but that part didn't show up on camera, especially in the dark. Goes to show that bad luck will sometimes find you, regardless of how careful you may be. To add insult to injury, we had just recently been considering getting a protective coating for the windshield done from Autopia!

I will update the thread once the replacement is carried out. I don't know about the cost at the moment, so please bear with me until the update. And drive safe!
