I have been enjoying my Hyundai Santro Xing GLS for 13+ years, and that's still very reliable, very refined and going strong, but we want to switch to an automatic now. I and my wife have been looking for an automatic petrol hatch, but I was not sure whether to consider the Jazz since it is said that it is going to be discontinued very soon. However, your recent post helped re-ignite the fire! Should we grab one while it is still being sold? Shall we get the required spare parts and service for next 10-12-15 years? That's the ONLY apprehension I have for this otherwise fantastic and fuss free car. Lastly, if you or any Jazz owner could also advise on VX CVT (quoted 11.54L on road in Pune) versus ZX CVT (12.46L on road). While the latter is expensive by by almost 92K, we plan to retain the car for ideally 15 years or more, and don't mind spending a bit extra than to regret later that we should have gone with the top variant. As we know, ZX offers 3 extra features over VX: 1. Sunroof => Good to have for us, but not really a deal breaker. My wife is okay with not having it altogether (though daughter said a resounding YES ) 2. LED headlamps (ZX) versus Halogen headlamps (VX). Is there a significant difference between the two? We would not like to compromise in this department. Had it been LED "Projector" headlamps, I wouldn't have thought twice and would have gone for Projector setup, but unfortunately there're no projector headlamps offered for any of the 3 trims (V / VX / ZX). 3. LED Fog Lamps (ZX) which are missing in VX, and not easy to retrofit in the VX either as the LED slots of VX are already housing DRLs. Again, good fog lamps are definitely "good to have" for us, especially during planned/unplanned Pune-Mumbai trips in monsoons. Monetary value wise, it is not worth spending 92K for the above 3 features. But considering we intend to keep this car for really long, and do not want to regret later that we should have gone with the top available variant, I am personally inclined to consider the ZX variant, but your inputs shall be appreciated. Once again, the main concern is the availability of required spare parts for at least next 10-12-15 years!

Most parts are shared between many in Honda lineup. In India, Brio, Jazz, W-RV, B-RV, Amaze., share the same engine and most parts of the drive-train. Cars sold in India right now are manufactured in India and Honda is definitely here to stay. Even otherwise, availability of spares which are shared between platforms across the world is never going to be a problem. Not just 10-15 years, but beyond that in my opinion. Redline6800 has a first generation Honda City (production was stopped in the year 2003); even today, he doesn't have any problem with spare parts. Quote:
When you are looking at long term, if it is affordable, it is better to go for the top variant IMO. But replacement price of these fancy parts could become expensive over time. But at any given point of time, upgrades / alternative parts will be available in the market for sure. I have owned Korean and German cars before. From my experience, it is not hard to source any part from the global market. More so in today's world than 15 years back. There are many competent FNGs around too. All the best! Do post your purchase / ownership experience whichever car you buy!

So yesterday my wife and I went to Honda showroom, where upon our request, the SA was kind to arrange for 2 Honda Jazz cars - VX and ZX - taken to their basement parking and lined up side-by-side. What's more, they even got the basement lights turned off to make it like a proper night (otherwise this aspect is very difficult to compare in daylight). We then spent enough time turning each car's lights on and off turn by turn, and noting down the impressions until we could reach at the conclusion. Salute to the patience of the Honda team! And to my total surprise, we finally found VX CVT yellow halogen lights much better than ZX CVT white LED lights. ZX CVT additionally has white fog lamps, but they didn't add much value (in our opinion) either! Even my Hyundai Santro retrofitted yellow halogen fog lamps seemed to be better (though not used much). I am sure yellow fog lamps would have been much better but they have given white headlamps + white fog lamps in ZX!! ZX variant does not even have "projector headlamps" setup. Had it had "LED Projector" setup, I believe the experience would have been different. The SA also narrated some harrowing experience they recently had with Honda City white LED lights where they were blinded during heavy rains + fog while driving, again where yellow lights are supposed to have a far better penetration and much less haze/glare. Just one more observation to further help fellow members decide/compare: The LED sockets in the VX model are actually housing the DRLs. I found them of hardly any use, but they are good while removing the car from and parking it back in our slightly tricky (though acceptable) parking slot. Again, thanks to Honda SA for bringing the car home, just so that we could satisfy ourselves on this front as well! I also asked if we can get those DRLs removed from VX fog-lamp-slots and replaced by actual fog lamps (of course by paying extra), to which Honda dealer refused saying they are not advised to make such electrical modifications and that might void the warranty (having read reviews on Team BHP, I was sort of expecting this kind of reply from Honda, so wasn't surprised! Basically Honda is not too accommodating when it comes to requests like this, and even things like adjustable rear head rests). Anyways, noting that ZX LED fog lamps were not of much use either, we were ok to live without it! The verdict therefore was clear => We would choose VX over ZX for "better" (though more traditional and halogen) lights!! Now that would mean no sunroof option and my wife was somehow actually happy about it Retrospectively I too thought it would be "safer" to have a car without sunroof, and especially when Honda Jazz has such a fantastic view and large glasses + quarter glasses all around, there will be no dearth of sunlight/view especially pan India. So finally we requested for one more test drive (the first TD was taken in June 2022). They only had the ZX CVT for TD, but that was okay with us as all features except lighting and sunroof are the exact same. My wife drove for 5-7 minutes (her first Jazz TD) and I drove for 10-12 minutes (my second Jazz TD). She whispered in my ears that she loved to drive (and I had loved it already) so that sealed it for us! Ah and on that note, driver side seat height adjustment is very useful! The prices have increased again in August 2022 (June 2022 price list quoted 11.54L on road for ZX CVT Pearl White whereas August 2022 price list quoted 11.67L, so there was further increase of INR 13K in just 2 months). Both these are for the "pearl white" colour (which is INR 4K more ex-showroom compared to all other colours). This, I believe has been the 5th price increase in 2022, and prices are expected to only go north from here! Next, to our surprise, the dealer said there is a Pearl White VX CVT in transit, so if we could book right away, we could get it as early as next week! I was really surprised. And that led to the final negotiation round with the SA, his manager and our 13-year Hyundai Santro Xing for exchange. That was few more minutes until we shook hands! We had gone to compare VX versus ZX and returned having booked the grand "Honda Jazz VX CVT Pearl White". We have paid the booking amount INR 11K so far. The car is expected to reach the dealer stockyard by end of tomorrow, and their stockyard is quite near their showroom (making lives easy for us), post which we will do the PDI. If all goes well (fingers crossed!), we will purchase the car as early tomorrow and get the delivery latest by coming weekend. At this stage, fellow BHPians, do please advise if you have any further suggestions! In the interim, I have just finished reading the great PDI thread: https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/buyin...k-list-47.html (ARTICLE: Pre-delivery Inspection (PDI) & Check List) I must mention the dealership experience has exceeded my expectations so far. When requested, the dealer promptly shared the chassis number (and it is going to be September 2022 car, yes, this very month!). They even created a WhatsApp group with their team and me and have been addressing my follow-up queries promptly and professionally! Thank you once again Chetan, and other Jazz owners for having shared your wisdom from time to time: Girish Mahajan, SoumenD, Voodooblaster and others (apologies if I missed anyone, but that's not intentional). Looking forward to join the Honda Jazz club! Special thanks also to GTO for his immense contributions to Team BHP. I don't remember having seen any major thread where GTO has not contributed. Team BHP has been such an incredible and very enriching space! If PDI goes fine, we will have lots of peace of mind for many, many years, which is rare to find in today's world. Most notably, it gives me a great sense of satisfaction thinking of the following factors, that we would finally have the following: 1. A hatchback (we didn't want an SUV, having loved hatchbacks so far - owning Hyundai Santro Xing 2009). I know the world is moving to CSUVs and SUVs, and good hatchbacks are hard to find. 2. A "petrol" car (our running is not much, not justifying diesel, love the smoothness of a petrol car with low NVH and a peppy drive. EV is a strict NO for us at least at this stage for various reasons. Flex fuel engines are yet to be introduced, and thereafter to be tried-and-tested). Also the car manufacturers have been swamped with too many directives too often (first BS4, then BS6, then EV, and now flex-fuel!) Really wonder how they are able to manage their business with continuously changing norms, directives, and now the terrible global economic situation (I can write an article on this!) 3. A "Naturally Aspirated" (NA) petrol car. Being someone who wants to keep this car forever(!), decided this over Turbo. 4. A 4-cylinder NA petrol - extremely refined and reliable engine (just having some fun adding dimensions ... but researching options and mapping to our requirements again makes me very very clear on wanting this over a 3-cylinder turbo). 5. A proper automatic (CVT!). In fact, the biggest reason to let go of our fantastic Santro Xing is that it is a manual car and it has started to become tiring with ever-increasing traffic, especially during our Mumbai trips and visits to some places in Pune too. Wise folks have shared here that CVT or Torque Converter is the way to go for "reliability" as against (jerky) AMT and (risky) DCT etc. Especially considering Honda engine refinement and reliability, the car will not leave us stranded during the journey! Further, having cruise control + paddle shifters is an absolute bliss + pleasure respectively. 6. 4-star GNCAP rating 7. Proven and time-tested "Honda City" global platform (the SA tried convincing us for Amaze a couple of times, saying it is cheaper and more feature-rich) but we were crystal clear. 8. Honda is the only brand that offers upto 10-year warranty. The dealership however said that I can't purchase 10-year warranty right away, I can purchase max 5-year warranty and before that expires, I can extend. Hence have opted for 5-year warranty. Do please let me know if you would like to know anything else about our purchase experience. Will be happy to share. Last edited by bblost : 18th September 2022 at 17:45. "Any time Warranty is a unique program and introduced first time in Indian Automotive Industry. This program gives you a coverage of "1 Year / 20,000 Kms". The eligible criteria to get this program is Vehicle age < 10 Years (from policy start date) and Odometer reading < 1,20,000 Kms from new vehicle sale date. The best part of this program is that you can opt this program even after expiry of Standard Warranty / Extended Warranty." This is the 2nd instance of someone taking the trouble to compare the Jazz back to back with other cars and deciding on the former ! A classmate of mine did three back to test drives last year comparing the Jazz against the previous gen Toyota Glanza. The Glanza pricing was mouth watering, but after repeated test drives, they decided to pay the substantial premium over the Glanza, to go in for a Jazz VX CVT, which is quite well equipped. On a personal note, I am a die-hard Honda fan and my 2000 Honda City 1/5 Exi is still going strong. Honda pulled the plug on parts only in January, this year. But over the last 21 years, I never had an issue with parts or service of my car at the authorised showroom BLR. From what I understand, Honda provides parts for up to 15 years from date of sale and the genuine Honda parts are worth going in for. My FNG convinced me to go for aftermarket bumpers and headlights/tail lights for my City and they are crap compared to the original Stanley headlights/tail lights. While the original Honda plastic bumpers could absorb quite a heavy impact without shattering, the aftermarket bumpers did exactly that. Our 2012 Honda Brio has been super reliable over 10 years and 64,000 km. We did take the 10 year warranty, but it was never needed A lot of my friends liked my City Type IZ so much, that they ended up buying Hondas over the years and all of them still have their cars. I referred them all to Whitefield Honda Bangalore. 1. 2008 Honda City 10th anniversary edition 2. 2012 Honda Brio 3. 2013 or 14 Jazz X 4. 2016 and 2019 Honda City 4th gen ZX and VX CVTs 5. 2019 Honda BR-V VX CVT 6. a relative picked up a 2012 Honda CR-V after a long search and its amazing how well these old Honda's age. 7. A friend picked up a used 4th gen Honda City 4th gen ZX CVT manual in 2020. A common thread amongst all these buys was no mechanical issues/warranty claims with any of these vehicles over long years of ownership. Only the 4th gen City's 1st gen DIGIPAD system was a piece of junk. One learning from my own ownership is that if the vehicle is parked outside in the rain without a cover - then please ensure any repainting work is done by a very trusted FNG or at the showroom. Else there is paint bubbling/rusting. My City and wife's Brio had rust issues due to improperly done repainting on the doors and the outside parking. 1. Any recommendation on which tyres to go for? Will the dealership reduce the cost for the stock tyres, if I give them my set? Or can I request them to get the ones I recommend and pay the delta amount? 2. Any recommendation/hyperlink on which TPMS to go with? I will ask them about the other stuff as well (under body rubberised coat, silencer coat, sump guard, rat mash). For ceramic paint protection I believe they quoted some 8K. Will check again. For the additional accessories, is the recommendation to buy from Honda (expensive but good quality) or after market shops? Any recommendation on good shops in Pune would be recommended (preferred area Baner/Balewadi/Aundh/Pashan/Wakad, Pune). The dealer said tyre changing is not possible, and engine sump guard is not required. So will have to live with what they give. They have recommended the rubberised coat and silencer coat, have asked for the price quote. Last edited by Aditya : 13th October 2022 at 17:42. Reason: Back to back posts merged

Continental UC6 for comfort and the tyres I got is slightly inclined towards performance, has excellent warranty too. You can go with SensAiry: SensAiry Bluetooth LE Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) - 4 Sensors Engine sump is required to avoid damaging stone hits. I have ordered one and will be receiving the same by next week beginning. I will update once it is fixed. You can decide based on that. Accessories at Honda is good quality and VFM. You can try outside too. All the best! Drive safe! Last edited by Chethan B G : 20th September 2022 at 10:14.

Senior - BHPian | Re: Honda Jazz ZX CVT | Practical family city hatch! Update: 1. Engine / Sump Guard: Even though the engine is not mounted very low in the Honda Jazz, the risk of engine sump being hit by a flying stone cannot be ruled out. In-case of such an incident, the resultant consequences can be devastating as even a small crack in the sump can lead to engine oil leak. Therefore, a sump guard is highly recommended. I purchased the sump guard from CarTrends online. This is a genuine Honda Jazz sump guard and the material is poly-carbon, very similar in terms of quality and thickness to the rest of the under body cladding. The response and service from CarTrends was generally good and it took about 15 days to receive the part. They even sent me a small video of the parts being packed before dispatch, which I thought was very cool ! Link: https://cartrends.in/products/engine...7be3aeea&_ss=r Requires 6 self-threaded screws and 4 plastic clips to fix the same. I got this done at the Honda service center. 2. Spare wheel: As I had upgraded the tyre, the difference in diameter between the upgraded tyre and the spare was 20 mm. This is okay for short emergency use, but in case if the car needs to be run for a longer distance on spare wheel, a shorter radius of 10 mm could pose a problem. Therefore I upgraded the spare tyre too. I purchased a 15 inch steel RIM from CarTrends and exchanged the spare tyre to a new Goodyear Assurance 175/65R15 tyre @ Tyre Professional, Basavanagudi. After this, the difference in radius is 6 mm which is good enough; this difference reduces with time as the regular tyres wear. Link: https://cartrends.in/products/wheel-...ype-5-15-inchi 3. 12V Power socket for the rear passengers: As the rear passengers do not get a charging point, I got a socket installed inside the driver's armrest, similar to the one available in a W-RV. This costed me about Rs.2,500 including installation which was carried out at the service center. Cable can be taken out through the notch provided to the left. Couple of interesting bits: Antenna Control placed within the center console; detects and confirm that the key-fob is inside the car. Hand brake tensioner. Ottocast wireless Carplay adapter and OEM fit wireless mobile charger is on the way! Will update by mid October! Jazz Rocks as usual! |
