Congrats VJ123 on your new purchase.

We owned the Sienna at US. Not the EV version, the older one. Toyota Prius was just in the market as the hybrid car those days in the US.

Your post took me back to Ourisman Toyota, the dealer at Fairfax and the lovely car which we used extensively almost 20 years ago at US. It was particularly useful when we had family visiting us from India and could easily ferry 6 pax comfortably.

Thank you. Its very useful when someone is visiting and glad to hear that you had great memories with the vehicle.

Initial impression

I was one of those people who never wanted to own a minivan due to the cliché associated but here I am on my third one within a few years. In fact, we missed having a minivan in the household especially with the growing family and its true that you never go back once you have one. They are more practical for day to day mundane drives with more useable interior space than SUVs and would highly recommend minivans to anyone with kids.

I am very happy with this purchase and looking forward to use it to the fullest for my family needs.

Hi Vibin,

Congratulations on the new addition to your garage. Beautiful review. Like you said, I guess I wasn't ready to pull the trigger on a minivan myself , but I see how practical it actually is.

Wishing you many many miles of fun and memories ( esp with the addition to your family ).

Congrats Vibin!

No SUV can beat the utility of a minivan. Smart choice with the 18 inch wheels. Higher profile tires ride way better and cheaper to replace. I love the ottomans, along with the entertainment screen it makes the rear space a lounge. Very cool.

It's odd that they don't give a spare if you choose the ottoman. Wonder if you still have the space to add one yourself. Spare tire is really handy during long trips. Like many new cars mine just came with a tire repair kit and it's useless in most scenarios. I hit a pothole once during a road trip and damaged the sidewall. With a spare, I would've been back on the road after a few mins but I had to tow it to the dealer and spend a day replacing it.

Excellent choice and congrats again. Wish you many happy miles!

Thank you Jeeva! Back seat passengers would have a blast.

Spare tire from the factory is a donut which can only be driven for 50 miles at 50mph. I read somewhere that it might be due to the fact that Sienna GVW goes over a certain limit if AWD, ottoman and spare tire are added on the same vehicle. As a result, only two of these options can be added from the factory. I looked into the option of spare tire retrofit and it requires replacement of an interior trim. Even though its a $75 option from the factory, retrofit costs around $1400 for parts and $1000 for labor if done by the dealership. At some point, i might end up with this retrofit as it would a life saver during long trips.

Congratulations on the new ride @vj123. Wish you many happy and memorable miles!

Toyota took its sweet time to update the generation, but the hybrid is a game changer in the minivan segment. The Sienna is a perfect package with a luxurious interior, supreme refinement, and 36 mpg (~15 kmpl) which is an unbeatable combination.

Looking forward to seeing your new ride in the next meet. :)

Even though Toyota is termed as a conservative OEM, they are delivering what customers want (hybrids) in the US market and other manufacturers in the segment (Carnival & Odyssey) are following them.

You should have tried Dodge Caravan too. Even your choice is good.

We have been thinking about adding a bigger vehicle to meet the growing family needs. Having owned SUVs in the past, none of them were considered due to practicality. Requirement for this purchase was straightforward: Minivan with rear entertainment system. Since all minivans have rear entertainment as an option, we looked at all vehicles in the segment and listing them in the order they were ruled out.

Dodge Caravan production ceased in 2020.
