Hi! I am sorry for the late reply. I somehow missed your post.

1) DPF: I have never faced any issues with the DPF till date. I change the engine oil and oil filter every 7500 Kms even though 15,000 Kms is the recommended interval. My usage is 60 percent on highway and 40 percent in city. I don't lug the engine and I do rev it to 3800-4000 rpm once in a while just for joy. I stay in a tier 2 city where traffic and road conditions are better.

2) Tyres: I changed my tyres immediately after delivery hence, I cannot tell the difference between stock and upgraded tyres. But there should be a slight increase in ground clearance post upgrade according to theory/ on paper comparison.

Re: Tata Altroz Diesel Review | Pros, Cons & 35,000 KM Update

Hi all. I would like to share a recent incident with my car. Car is 2.5 Years old with 36,800 Kms on ODO at the time of incident. ALTROZ XZ (D)

I and my mother were travelling from Bellary to Bangalore on 17th of June and half way into the journey the clutch started acting weird and I could fell something amiss, after a few more minutes I could feel the clutch sink in as I started to continue driving. I parked my car on a service road and contacted a person in Tata Service Centre in Bellary. The person told me to slowly drive the car and take it to nearest TASS. I somehow reached till Sira where, the clutch sank and hit the floor thereby breaking down right on the highway. I engaged neutral and used the momentum to bring the car onto the edge of the road next to the slowest lane. Fortunately a few road repair workers helped push the car and there was Paakashaala about 50 Metres from there and I parked my car at Paakashaala and contacted Tata Road side assistance and they said towing vehicle will take atleast 3 hours as they are attending another breakdown. I called Tata Aig (my car insurance team) towing support team and they said it will take an hour at least. I called a mechanic after finding his number on google and he was there in less than 5 minutes. He topped up the brake fluid and charged me an exorbitant 1000 rupees and said I can drive till TASS Tumkur. I somehow took the car to TASS Tumkur. The team at TASS Tumkur inspected the issue and confirmed clutch slave cylinder has failed and they require a few days to sort out the issue. I requested for a loaner car as I had a boot full of valuable items and I did not feel safe to travel in cab but the service head straight away said they can't help me with it. I tried calling Tata Motors customer care who were busy with calls (Tata Customer Care called me the next day after I reached Bangalore). I requested to atleast provide me a Tiago as a loaner car for 2 days but the service centre denied the request without me even completing talking. I somehow booked a cab myself and reached Bangalore by night. My mother was frustrated with the chain of events that day. She asked me if we should contemplate selling the car as Tata Motors has always let us down from the time of sales, service till the point of breakdown as well. I said this too shall pass. We then decided that if there is another breakdown in future we shall surely sell this car and switch back to Suzuki or Toyota.

I handed over the car to Sree Auto Tumkur on 17/06/2025 at 3:30 PM. They handed over my car back to me on 21/06/2025. Due to clutch disc being out of stock the repair got delayed. Also Tata Motors took more than 30 Hours for warranty approval as my car was under extended warranty. The overall process is slow and not surprising. I had to get in touch with CCM in order to push for warranty approval as I was loosing money and time due to the breakdown. The CCM from Tata Motors promised to call me back in 30 minutes and it has been more than 3 weeks and I am still waiting for her to call me back.

I requested my SA at Sree Auto Tumkur to get the clutch and brake system bleeding done to ensure smooth functioning of components. They confirmed bleeding was done. While returning back from Tumkur to Bangalore post repairs I felt the gears weren't engaging smoothly and the brake bite didn't feel as sharp as earlier. I realised that these guys missed bleeding the system post repairs. An added bonus was dirt and debris in master cylinder which is shocking for me.

Got the brake bleeding done at TASS Bellary and the brakes are performing well but the gears still feel stiff while slotting, especially 1st and 2nd. The TASS guys greased the cable but it still feels stiff. This is the first car in our family to ever experience a breakdown. In a span of more than 25 years of car ownership covering atleast 6 brands this is the first car to experience a breakdown in-spite of timely maintenance and changing all the fluids at half the company recommended duration.

I shall hold onto this car for as many years as possible but wouldn't consider any Tata car ever no matter how good they are. I have dissuaded a lot of people away from Tata cars due to their pathetic QC/QA and average or sometimes worst service experience as well. Believe me or not but visiting my Tata Service centre is a nightmare for me. I seriously don't sleep well the day prior to service visit thinking what all issues I might have to face at TASS.

PS: The SA at Tumkur TASS was surprised by the excellent condition of the old clutch and clutch components. He said if not for the slave cylinder issue the clutch kit could have crossed 1 Lakh kilometers easily.
