Also, why do you say that about the sunroof? Don't buy into the BS about sunroofs compromising structural rigidity. Even if the roof were covered fully, it will be covered only by sheet metal without any additional structural bracing. In other words, structural bracing is not removed to provide a sunroof. You can replace the sheet metal with cardboard, canvas or cheese it wont make a difference.

Re: 2024 Toyota Innova Hycross Hybrid Review | Silent Katana

Somehow it seems some animal trying to get on the roof of the car, maybe a dog trying to chase a cat. It could be the cat in above images playing my mind. Feels very sad when such incidents occur.

The greenish blue shade pic that you have captured is looking very premium.

Q: Was this car coated with any protection? If yes, how did that fare?

Re: 2024 Toyota Innova Hycross Hybrid Review | Silent Katana

These scratches look like from an animal or a bird, I had a similar experience when I parked my car outside. The security person mentioned that it was from a bird which was chasing a cat, I couldn’t believe him at first but the detailer said the scratches were deep and could be from an animal.

I know it feels terrible to see these scratches on a dark body but the future main villain could be a pair of jealous eyes who can leave such scratches . overall 3m did a good job here, they are expensive but I love their quality of work. Take a chill pill and enjoy driving !

Just above the Driver door handle someone had keyed the car.
The dog nail mark probably trying to sneak peek inside something interesting. My dogs do this occasionally and this leaves the same print. Two higher, two lower and all parallel. Humans leave random non non-parallel lines. Cats have smaller prints.

Usually when a car is key'd you would need to repaint it - correct? Glad that a 3M paint correction has been able to fix it. Sorry if i missed but did you have any PPF or ceramic done?

As others said, this looks like an animals work. Maybe a small animal like a rat got under the car, and a dog/cat was trying to get at it. Another BHPian had similar experience, albeit worse (link (Dogs / Cats damage my car!)) Hope this helps!

Re: 2024 Toyota Innova Hycross Hybrid Review | Silent Katana

They are dog's paws. Had similar scratches all around my wagon r a few years back. Mine were much deeper at the bonnet and fender.
The roof aap had scratches. Seemed some dogs were fighting amongst themselves.

But, isn't Rs.14k too much for the job or are they 3M prices that are higher than those charged by other detailing outfits?
I absolutely agree ₹14k is a lot !! Wurth Car Care before this again became a 3M Car Care Studio charged ₹8-9k for the same job, which was reasonable.

Oh, that innocent looking spectator meow could very well be the culprit?
This cat was present in the building compound which has the 3M Studio, not in my building compound, so I’m sure it’s innocent .

Only one day did I park the car on the podium level, the next day I noticed these scratches. Otherwise the car is parked in a covered parking in the basement.

Yes, does seem like an animal tried to climb on the car.

The Greenish Blue Shade is one of the major reason I waiting a long time to get this colour, other colours were being offered which I politely declined. I was hooked on to this colour! It’s very difficult to capture the true colour since the lighting conditions keep changing.

No, the car is not coated with any protection since being bought; be it PPF or Ceramic Coating.

Yes, now even I realise it must’ve been an animal.

I’m pretty satisfied by the job done by 3M, and thanks enjoying the car just as before.

Nope, the car has no PPF or Ceramic Coating on it till now.

Making sense now that it would’ve been an enthusiastic Dog trying to peek inside the car, because I didn’t find the scratches anywhere else.

Re: 2024 Toyota Innova Hycross Hybrid Review | Silent Katana

The car has completed 3000kms and running just fine except that I have already started noticing the centre armrest lid groaning and creaking.

I was looking for a set of lights either to complement the current lighting setup or add additional lights. I had even procured a set of Stedi LED lights from Australia which can be fitted between the lower air dam and grill, but never got around to fixing them since it would’ve voided the warranty.

Then I started seeing videos of Aozoom’s 2 inch projector fog lights made specifically for Toyota cars (Fortuner, Innova HyCross, Crysta and the likes, basically any Toyota with the OEM 2 inch fog lights). Never really seriously considered them until a few other members were/are also planning to get them installed in their cars.

Called a few accessory shops in and around Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. One particular shop in Vashi was selling the FLP2030 for 12.5k including installation, meanwhile other shops were quoting 17-17.5k for the same lights including installation. No prize for guessing how could there be such a big price variation!

Not to get trapped in spurious products, decided to check with Toyota dealerships whether they sell any projector fog lights as well. Called up Madhuban Toyota Lower Parel and they sell NFS branded 2 inch projector fog lights at ₹26k which I felt was very steep. Decided to take a chance with Lakozy as well since this is from where we’ve purchased the car. Called their central landline number which was patched to Lakozy Malad’s Accessories Dept. where they were selling the exact model FLP2030 I wanted at ₹19k (a ₹2-2.5k premium compared to outside). Casually asked the Accessory Department Head’s name and it turned out to be the same person who had helped me source and install the Sony XAV-3200 in my Fortuner right at their dealership. Placed the order on 24th December and the lights were with them on 26th December, 25th being a holiday for Christmas.

So finally took the plunge after a lot of back and forth and upgraded to Aozoom FLP2030 Fog Projectors in its single colour variant ie. White since the tri-colour version has some flickering issues as I found out from other members and its supply has been stopped by FBL Automotive.

With the old fog lights switched on only, headlight’s low beam is switched off. The OEM fog lights have a very small area of coverage and from the driver’s seat they are almost non-existent in terms of lighting up the road ahead.

2024 Toyota Innova Hycross Hybrid Review | Silent Katana-img_3537.jpeg
Both the coupler and frame of this particular light is made to replace Toyota’s OEM 2 inch fog light, without any kind of modification done to the OEM bumper bracket and no tampering of wires. These are bi-beam LED projectors and have not activated the high beam function since it would require tapping the headlight’s high beam, which the Toyota dealership from where I got these installed suggested not to. Also since the frame is made specifically for Toyota cars the screw+spring system to adjust the projector is not used.

2024 Toyota Innova Hycross Hybrid Review | Silent Katana-img_3538.jpeg
The installation in progress, best part is the bumper doesn’t have to be opened to install the lights, since we all know Toyota’s bumper clips are weaker than normal and there are unwanted panel gaps created if opened

Both the low beam of the headlights and fog lights are switched on here.

Many assume these powerful projector fog lights can provide similar output as the low beam of the headlights, well in the the HyCross that’s technically not possible since the fog lights placement is right at the bottom of the bumper, compared to a higher location of the fog lights in the Fortuner.

I got these fog light projectors installed at the dealership from where I’ve purchased the car from, effectively keeping my warranty intact with proper paperwork (Toyota’s letter-head bill and Aozoom’s warranty card) to support the same in case there is an issue in the future.

In the aftermarket the same lights would’ve costed me ₹2-2.5k lesser including installation, but paid the premium for peace of mind and the dealership supposedly gets a lot of HyCross’ for this upgrade, there was another HyCross after mine which had come for the same upgrade.

A parting shot with some Christmas + New Year Lighting and wishing everyone a very Happy New Year

Looks like the left hand side fog lamps' high and low beams are not working/not aligned properly. I can see a hotspot on the road, a couple of meters away from the bumper.

Yes, have noticed the same.

The dealership told me to check the output at night, and come back if it requires readjustment. Had shared the picture of the left fog light creating a hotspot to the accessories dept head, who told me to bring the car so that they can adjust it properly.

Sending the car this Saturday to get it sorted out

UPDATE TIME - Illuminated Power Window Switches

If many will remember I had mentioned in my ownership review while publishing last year that I wanted to source the Illuminated Master Window Switches from the Camry for the HyCross, it would’ve been a direct fit and I would be sourcing the parts from a TASC.

Can’t believe I could’ve been so wrong!!

Toyota is no VAG in India, where there are multiple folks running businesses selling VAG parts for the cars sold in India and making huge profits.

This project may seem like a very simple and easy task to carry out, but finding the right part that would fit the HyCross was an Herculean task!!

Toyota Globally hasn’t made it any simpler, they have multiple permutations and combinations of these switches for their line-up of cars. Also post Nov/Dec 2022 Toyota globally shifted from cool blue backlit buttons to white buttons for all their cars, which made matters even more difficult.

Like I mentioned I would be getting the Post-Facelift Camry Master Window Switches from a TASC in Mumbai, I got a contact through a Fortuner Owner of the Parts Manager at Lakozy, called him and mentioned I need the master window switch panel of the Camry, to which he mentioned there are 7 different part numbers and he can’t confirm if it’ll work with the HyCross or not. But then I started seeing more night time videos of the Camry in India to understand if I was correct and realised all the buttons were backlit in blue.

I was back on the drawing board!

I had given up on the project, but then suddenly something inside me woke up and I was back in action again.

There are many sellers on AliExpress and a website called CarTrimsHome that sell these white backlit Master Window Switches but all are for LHD Toyota models.

This LHD and RHD orientation with Blue and White Backlit buttons would’ve driven anyone nuts! The difference in the LHD and RHD master switch panel is that the placement of the lock/unlock button and window lock button is reversed, also if you install the LHD panel in a RHD car, the driver window switch will open the passenger window and passenger window switch on the master window panel will open the driver’s window.

Then I started my search exclusively in RHD markets like the UK, Australia and Japan. UK had them available but all were Blue Backlit buttons from cars like the Corolla, Australia I could find no conclusive part numbers, their parts websites would lead me no where. Then came Japan the home country of Toyota and this is where I came across a website called amayama.com where for multiple brands proper detailed parts list with diagrams was available.

The first car I started with was the Camry, but the 2025 Camry which has all buttons backlit in White didn’t have its parts list ready yet anywhere in the world, so this was out. The same was mentioned to me by the Lakozy Parts Manager as well.

Next came up the Corolla Cross available in Japan, I zeroed in on a part no. 84040-30330, but had no clarity whether the part was backlit in White or Blue. This part was shortlisted though.

Cars like the Land Cruiser Prado and Grand Highlander get a different design of master window switches, so that was anyways out.

Next car I saw was the newly launched Toyota Crown, first saw a few videos of the car in the LHD markets and confirmed all buttons were illuminated in White. Then saw a few videos of the car in the Japanese market and could just make out that the buttons were backlit in white.

On amayama.com the Master Window Switch panel for a RHD Crown had the part no. 84040-42150, which if entered on Google would lead me to RAV4s. What I still needed was a confirmation though. I don’t know how but I got led to a Japanese Forum called Minkara.carview.co.jp which had multiple people share pictures of this Part No. and the night time picture showed White Backlit Buttons

That was it, I was sure this is the part I needed, but still needed to figure out how to source it. First I asked the Owner of a Toyota Dealership down south, if this part is available with them or not, he was very amused to find out that I needed such an upgrade on an Innova and my attention on detail for such things, considering a regular Joe won’t care about such a small thing . I sent him the part no. and he mentioned it isn’t available in India since it belongs to a RAV4.

On amayama.com Part No. 84040-30330 was available for around 190 AUD including shipping, but 84040-42150 wasn’t available.

The Japanese Corolla Cross video, where the person has changed his Master Window Switches Panel to Part No. 84040-42150 which belongs to a Toyota RAV-4
In the comment section of this video, after translating to English, I found out that someone with a Corolla Cross in Japan has changed to Part No.: 84040-30330 as well and both will work with the HyCross as well!

I shared my predicament with my friend, from Gurgaon, who is more like a brother now, who recently got his 2nd HyCross after his first HyCross was lost in a fire. He found out a website in Japan called YoshiParts.com having stock of the Part No. 84040-42150 we wanted. He ordered it first for his car since it was a gamble we were playing on, just in case the part doesn’t come out right. It costed around ~13-14k INR including shipping.

So Ladies and Gentlemen, I present you India’s First HyCross (my friend’s) with OEM Toyota Japan Illuminated Master Window Switches, which Toyota India/Indonesia/Thailand has cut costs on and coolly not provided on a 30-40 Lakh Rupee Car! Will be carrying out the same on my car soon.

The Panel which houses the Master Window Switches is very easy to open. There are two couplers inside, a small one for the Electric Mirror Adjuster and Electric Window Fold/Unfold. The 2nd Large coupler is for the Master Window Switches, Lock/Unlock Button and Window Lock Button, it has a 20-pin setup which fits inside the coupler.

The Master Window Switches, Lock/Unlock Button and Window Lock Button panel is held by 3 screws which need to be removed after unplugging the coupler to remove this panel and replace it with your new 84040-42150 Panel. Follow the same procedure of putting back the 3 screws, both the couplers and you’re good to go! A net-net 10-15 Minutes job… Just remember to tighten the screws too much since at the end of the day they’re holding plastic which will start creaking and groaning in no time if tightened too much.

The Stock OEM Part No is 84040-VT010 in case anyone wants to get the stock one.

Re: 2024 Toyota Innova Hycross Hybrid Review | Silent Katana

Did you just kiss goodbye to the OEM warranty by fiddling with a switch? These switches become a muscle memory and you don't need to look at one to operate the right switch. Again, just my 2 cents.

I appreciate the whole lot of effort in finding the right switch but it just gives Toyota the right to refuse warranty unless the change is recorded in the Toyota service records.

IF those dimwits even realise this has been changed And think of this, the owner can always claim this is how he got the car like, since thats a Toyota spare. If I take this stand, how can Toyota prove that the owner has changed this part? So such arguments will work only when the replacement part is aftermarket, else the ASC will lose their sleep trying to prove the owner has replaced this switch.
