Chevrolet Aveo UVA - Initial review (2000 km)

Friends,

This is the initial ownership review of Chevrolet Aveo UVA.
Its worth mentioning the UVA punch line " Incredibly Spacious". There is enough leg room at the front as well as back. Even with the steering tilted to the lower level, its easy to get in ( I m close to 6 ft ).

Mileage:
City : 13 kmpl with AC on 25% of time
Highway : 15 kmpl ( AC 50% )

Pros:
  • Spacious ( 3 adults can sit in the back seat comfortably),
  • Look,
  • Ground Clearance ( I could clear the unscientific speed breakers and roads in Bangalore without any problem)
  • Boot space,
  • Suspension (the Air filled shock absorbers doing their duty on our roads)
  • Steering comfort
Cons:
  • Gear shift is not so smooth.
  • Instrument panel is not attractive ( the oddo etc are kept in a cylinder and dark background).
And some common issues (may be there in all cars) like
  • Slightly sluggish pick-up with AC
  • Front view is obstructed by A-pillar when taking sharp turns. This could be due to the angle of A pillar. Often I have to look through the window and with sun film, its difficult at night.
Cheers,
Arun

Arun, most of the chevy cars in india have gear shift problem. I own a spark and it has completed 3000 KM. The gear shift is notchy and clutch gets hard after a 30KM drive. I have reported the issue to sundaram bangalore guys but looks like they are not interested to solve it.

Aveo UVA is a 1 ton car with a 1.2 L engine and the car will be a bit sluggish when AC on.
Better option would be to pull car till 60KMPH + and then switch on the AC.
Overall UVA is a gr8 car - practical and decent family car.
Gr8 choice arun.
Please keep the post updated.

Hi Arun

Thats a neat review!
I also agree that all GM cars have slightly notchy gear shifts. At the same time i also think most GM cars have execellent Ride and suspension setup.

Do keep updating

What i felt Chevrolet could improve-

Interiors are really spacious. However, beige interiors would help making it feel better. The grey plastics dont do much justice. Its just not attractive.

Gearshift!

But, it makes for a nice family car!

Hey Arun
What is this color called? Did you pay some extra money for this color? Pls post some pictures if you have. My cus is looking out for UVA and she was particular about this color,as in your profile, though dont know what chevy call it.

Note from Mod Team - Do not quote the entire post unless absolutely necessary.

Hi HCP,

My car's colour is " Ivory Gold" in Chevy's terms. It's a metalic colour and so cost around 5000 more than the non-metalic colours.

I have the LS model, which I felt is value for money compared to the LT model which cost around 40K more. (LT has Tacho, Body colour rear view mirrors, rear wiper & defoger, 60:40 split seat etc )

I will post few photos soon.

Cheers,
Arun

Arun,

Great choice. I really admire U-VA and rate it better than Swift(except for engine) anyday.
Do educate me on the ride quality(rear).
I know its good but want to know from owner. I think Getz and U-VA both have gas filled shocks.
Please refer to the manual and maintain as per thier instruction( example, Run in period, tyre pressure etc)

Enjoy the U-VA.

Cheers

Good to see a fellow yUVA

As far as the gear system is concerned, the vehicle they gave me for TD had a really smooth setup. On the other hand, the UVA I bought home needs a bit more experience, I suppose - it has to go in for its first service next week - but it is not as bad as a lot of reviews make it out to be. Once you get the hang of it, the gear slots effortlessly most times.

Sundaram didn't give any offer. The insurance & MP3 player offer is applicable only if you go for finance from them ( don't know its good or bad). If you ask me, I wont recommend anybody to Sundaram. They are non-professional and not at all customer oriented. As one of my friend told, a typical government office is better than this dealer.

In fact I can't comment much abt the rear ride quality since I had very few hrs & no long drive with rear passengers . The initial feedback is good. Enough leg space and shoulder room ( 3 adults can sit easily ).

Cheers,
Arun

Hi All, Bought Aveo-UVA LS in August 2007. Icy Blue colour. So far metered 3900 kms.
Great car with spacious interior. I had travelled 450 kms non-stop with no hiccups. I had a brush of highspeed breaking- at 120 kms. Very crisp breaking. I feel more safer in this car.
