Dream Come True - Our Dream Machine Diesel 2.2 VTT @ 35,000kms

Hello All;

Yes, as the subject says, we bought our ( me & my brother's) Dream Machine Safari 2.2 VTT (VX version) Pearl White on Friday 25th January 2008. We started our dream to own it from past 6-7years but it has come true now.

Pre-booking Venture: As soon as the 2.2 was launched, we started test driving the vehicle in all possible showrooms in Bangalore. We took it to all possible road to test it. Finally we were satisfied with the machine after 4-5 test drives. Now we started to do research on the discounts & finally freezed on Manipal Motors Bangalore as it was near to our place.

Booking: Finally booked the vehicle on 14th Dec 2007. As the Shunya Maasa started on 25th Dec, we said we will take delivery in January 2008. Our process of Loan, color selection, model selection, bargaining on discounts. The loan process took only 4-5 days, we took it with Reliance Money at 11.75%. Everything was set, we freezed on VX version Pearl While color. Vx was chose just for the ABS & Airbags & delivery date was fixed as 25th Jan, Discounts were finalised.

Delivery:
22nd Morning - Status, Sales person says the vehicle has not left Pune due to technical reasons will leave on 23rd morning.
23rd morning - Status, Vehicle has left, will reach Bangalore on 24th Night or 25th morning
24th Night - Status, Vehicle still not arrived almost near Bangalore
25th Morning 11 AM - Status, Vehicle has arrived & is with PDI Department

Around 4pm the sales person calls us and tells to come by 6:30 pm to take the delivery. We reach the showroom by 7pm, still the vehilce not there....asked the sales guy & reply is, it is coming from the stock yard ( 5kms away from showroom ) it will reach any time. Finally vehicle arrives at 8:15pm. Total time taken 1hr 15 min to travel 5kms, this is Bangalore Traffic at peak time. Around 8:30 vehicle pooja was done by a priest & after that all documents were signed & vehicle was delivered. We thought of getting pooja done at Ganesh Temple ( near Cubbon Park on Kasturba Road ) but by the time we reached there it was 9:30 & the temple closed. The plan was postponed to 26th. By the time we reached home it was around 10pm. When the vehicle was delivered it had run around 70kms. ( No answer for that )

After Delivery: Some of the Issues faced are :

1. One of the Great Shock - Vehicle was manufactured in Dec 2007
2. One more Shock - In the manual PDI date was 12 Jan 2008 & it that it was overwritten on Nov 2007 date
3. No Wheel Alignment - Vehicle drags to the right - Full hand pain
4. Yet to recieve the promised gifts like Bull Bar & mats
5. Some sound from steerin when turned complete right
6. Engine sound above 2 rpm

Some of the common issues not faced: ( touch wood, hope it dont occur later )

1. No rattling sounds
2. No electrical problem
3. All switches are working fine

Discounts:
3M Sunfilm
CarryBoy Bull Bar
Body Cover
Foot Mats
Luggage Carrier ( Not confirmed )

Some of the questions to my friends:

1. Does the manufacturing date matter? its hardly one month difference.
2. Do i need to change the tyres? Inspte of having ABS
3. Which bulbs i need to change? the OEM is not sufficient
4. Which Horn i need to change? the OEM is not sufficient
5. I dont know whether PDI is done or not, how do i confirm?
6. Is it advisable to put luggage carrier on the top?

Anyways, i am happy with the vehicle.

Thanks for Team BHP friends for helping me in understanding this vehicle taking the decision.

More photos will follow as soon as i take some.

Happy? kdeepakk, you should be pissed off dude - you spent 10+ lakhs on a car, and they couldnt even do wheel alignment? What does the PDI dept even do?

Congratulations on the new car. The wait always seems so long when you expecting a new arrival. New Safaris seem to be on a roll on Team BHP lately.

Take good care of the beast and hope to see some more pictures soon.

A one month isnt going to much of a difference.

2. Do i need to change the tyres? Inspte of having ABS
To have better road grip and comfort a change will be suggested. Do read thru other 2.2 owners reviews to get an idea.

3. Which bulbs i need to change? the OEM is not sufficient
90/100 (or is it 100/90!) Philips.

4. Which Horn i need to change? the OEM is not sufficient
Roots? Maybe a better suggestion is present.

5. I dont know whether PDI is done or not, how do i confirm?
The mis-aligned wheel itself says about the PDI. Do take a print of the PDI checklist, available here in T-BHP, and do a check. Go and blast those guys for the mis-aligned wheel. Paying 10+laks and they can't do even a PDI properly!!!

6. Is it advisable to put luggage carrier on the top?
You have more than enough space inside so why a carrier. My personal opinion - would kill the looks! Please dont!

Anyways, i am happy with the vehicle.
This is all that matter!

Saar...what to say.....it has been raining safari ownerships in B'lore, inspite of bad infra.

Manipal was indeed an excellent choice, as they claim to be the best while it comes to goodies on offer.

Welcome to the club dude & drive safe!!

I forgot to mention one more thing....Totally 6 Safari's were delivered on 25th Jan by Manipal Motors. Think about other Tata Dealers in Bangalore / Karnataka & India. So its raining safari everywhere

Friday was a good day.. I wanted delivery on the same day, otherwise i should have waited for another 2 days cos Saturday & Sunday was an holiday. I have worked for Maruti for couple of months but still in that happiness of having the Machine in my hand, forgot about PDI. My Mistake

Congrats on your buy dude.
The safari is surely benefiting from the 2.2l engine developed jointly with AVL.
Take good care of the beast and it will serve you well.
Go for broader wheels...
they are a must have
