Except the front grill design everything else looks similar to the 2000 model. I owned similar model in Oman which I bought in 2003 and sold later. A picture below might help, also giving a weblink to cross check Toyota Corolla E120 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Ok, esteem_lover.Give it up, peacefully. . I really don't know Toyota keeps track of all the variants and design combinations they seem to conjure up out of one chassis and basic body dye!.

I found this one in 'First Choice'. The dealer called me & said there was an imported corolla for sale. So I went to check it out. This is what I found.

According to the RC, it is a 1.5 L Corolla imported & registered (in 6/2003) in the name of the Embassy of Russia. I cannot think how this car can be sold in the local market without appropriate papers. The dealer says that he has not bought the car & is only working on a commission. Sounds true since no one will take up such a big risk.

Points to ponder

1. What about Customs duty ?
2. What about Road Tax ?

Above all this, the seller wants 5.5 L. Isn't that a joke ?

5.5L is a steal You should pick it up and sell it for around 8 or 9L .

I have quoted 1.5 L for the car. If he agrees, you will see it tomorrow

5 lak seems to be a good deal provided you dont have any other hidden expenses like customs/stamp/road tax etc. I assume embassy registered vehicles would not go through abuse !

1.5 lak what you offered sounds like a joke ! Can we get a 5 year old esteem with that money ?

I hope you are joking. Neither is this car worth 8 L nor 5.5. Unless you get it dirt cheap, why would anyone buy this car? The Indian Corolla is more powerful, localised, will come with clean paperwork and a ready supply of spares.

To my understanding that car has been sold off by the embassy before June 2007 up till which the Insurance was valid. The guy who has picked up the vehicle (dirt cheap) has abused it for more than a year without any papers (there are tell tale signs) & now wants to get rid of it. I think 2.0 L is more than a fair price for that car. I have started my bid at 1.5 L.

@Esteem_Lover:
I have a stupid question for you?

Say 6 months after you have bought this car you receive a police challan for some accident that occurred last year in some faraway place. What will you do?

Oh those Russians! Never knew that Russia is in such dire straits. In that case we can expect them to import more cars to India through diplomatic channels and sell in "black" to make some quick money

AFAIK he will be responsible only for the incidents after the date he purchases the vehicle from the previous owner. RC book will have the ownership transfer date , so this shouldn't be a problem i guess.

John,

Any updates from the dealer yet?
