After showing the pics of the new city, you didnt have to try any hard to convince your dad, did you?
Dad had already seen the pics, but he was actually enticed by the discounts on the current GXi, which is the main reason he decided to buy a City in the first place. But I managed to point out to him that its barely a difference of around 75-80k for a brand new, next gen, vtec engine, etc. etc. Still he was not too convinced. Then we were shown the car. The red colored one. We saw it. We touched it. We sat in it. And we knew we had to have it.

We didn't get to drive it, but I'm not too worried about that!

I still have a choice - I can either go ahead and get the S and have it delivered by December or wait till around Feb for the E and also save 60k - what do I do?

There are significant advantages to waiting for the E
  • 60k cheaper
  • no ICE so i can install my own and not worry about selling the OEM one
  • if I get the delivery in Feb, it'll be a "2009 Honda City" vs. a "2008 Honda City" and can make a bit of a difference in the resale value.

And the S has one main advantage:
  • I'll only have to wait till December or maybe even end of November to drive it!

Edit: here is the FULL list of things that the S has that the E does not:
  • keyless answer back with key (remote locking)
  • center console high armrest
  • passenger vanity mirror
  • height adjustable driver seat
  • passenger side seat back pocket
  • integrated audio system with steering mounted controls
  • front and rear speakers
  • rear seat armrest with cup holder
  • front and rear mud guards
  • body colored door handles and mirrors

About the OEM ICE in the S... it's an integrated in-dash stereo system without a specific SD/DD HU, which I'm assuming will not be of much value if I try to pawn it off later, right? So I'm better off waiting for the E and putting the AVH-P6050DVD (or P6000) later on, right?

And mods - could you change the title of this post to "Just booked the all-new 2008 3G Honda City E" instead of the confusing title that it is right now? Thanks

- Aalaap

Wow Alaap ! Thats a good decision!! Which color have you booked?? I think E is also a great buy if you planning to install your own ICE , fat rubber & Alloys(Not sure of the last 2 since it ll be your dad s car). So you had to pay 1 lac as bookin amt?

ICE and Alloys are certain... but I'm not sure about the tires just yet. The originals are 175/65R15 ... what other tires would go better with these? considering not many have driven it yet, maybe i shouldnt think of upgrading the tires on day one...

Congrats Aalaap.
Did you checked with the dealer as the upgradation of tyres and alloys from outside than the dealer might void the warranty?

Edit: here is the FULL list of things that the S has that the E does not:
  • keyless answer back with key (remote locking) Rs 5K
  • center console high armrest cosmetic difference
  • passenger vanity mirror cosmetic difference
  • height adjustable driver seat cosmetic difference
  • passenger side seat back pocket cosmetic difference
  • integrated audio system with steering mounted controls not having this may be a blessing in disguise. For one, you can fit a CD HU (CD sounds much better than most MP3 players) Secondly you can choose the brand you like for HU and speakers, cost Rs 15k
  • front and rear speakers as above
  • rear seat armrest with cup holder cosmetic difference
  • front and rear mud guards Rs 1k
  • body colored door handles and mirrors cosmetic difference
So I'm better off waiting for the E and putting the AVH-P6050DVD (or P6000) later on, right? Of course right, plus you get a 2009 City

That's exactly why I decided to save the 60k and wait a couple more months for the E. I just want to know what the others in the forum think.

E or S?

This may sound stupid but what does Honda mean by keyless answer back with key? Is this the same as the standard remote locking system say Piranha?

thanks!'

Yeah, I think it's sorted now. I'll wait for the E.

They said they haven't started production of the E model yet, so there are chances that I'll get a Jan 09 mfg car (given the demand and the low priority for simples like us), but then, at least it'll be a 2009 reg if not mfg. Like my current Zen - 97 mfg, 98 reg. Still going strong!
