Endeavour is based on an Eighties platform and is very very huge ......
It engine is neither powerful nor fuel efficient ...
It is not agile and nimble and it is a Elephant ....
It is neither quick nor good road handler like these two ...
and it has excessive body roll ...

The harsh and bumpy ride quality is one big grouse that potential owners have had against the Endeavour.

yo dudes, the guys who go in for endeavour want that butch look, more than anything else. people go in for the cr-v and x-trail for their performance, F.E (nissan), and practicality.
sure, the endeavour would butcher them both in off-roading, but to be honest, i can bet that no indian owner tries the endeavour to it's full potential, not even in off-roading!!

true , it's a proper 4x4 based on a ladder frame chassis with leaf springs at the back... good off road , bad on road - and the engine's supposed to be a bit underpowered for a vehicle that size.

Guess so - You can safely assume that 99.9% of the 'great' offroaders such as the LC, LandRover etc never see dirt.

When Ford first showed the Ranger 4x4 KingCab at the Autoexpo in del a few years back, both me and my dad were excited - that was what we had been waiting for - heck - we waited a year and a half to take delivery of an Armada just cos we had ordered a 4x4 - sold it after an accident up in Himachal.

Ford should launch a completely stripped down version of the 4x4 Endeavour - make it available only in white, no plastic cladding , a simple A/C , no stereo, no alloys but 16" steel wheels with offroad oriented tyres, simple washable vinyl seats ...... at least make it available on order.... but would it be available at a price point of <10L. Make a snorkel and a winch as optional accessories

I'd love to drive myself on my next trip to Ladakh - want a contemporary yet simple 4x4 - not too small either - not for rock crawling but extended trips.
We were going to buy an embassy disposal '94 Patrol or a '87 LC (FJ60 LWB ?) a few years back but the maintenance issues dissuaded us from going that route. (and it was a baleno vs Tempo Trax contest before common sense prevailed and I settled for the practicality of a baleno )

but between the CRV and the Xtrail , I prefer the looks of the XTrail - havent driven or sat in either so can't comment on the other aspects.

but I still love it ! even though i may eventually get a 4x4 some day I know that i wont be in a situation requiring 4x4 maybe more than once a year there's something about those diesel drinking , behemoths..... Peronsality , Presence , maybe lower maintenance and overall make you feel special. A CRV wont really do that.

Hey, GTO and others who own 4x4's - do you take them offroad once in a while ? Where do you find the places to go ?

The nissan dealer in bombay is located in kalina just before the Ichibhan Honda showroom if you enter from santacruz side and after the showroom if u enter from Bandra-Kurla Complexthough have forgotten the name of the dealer.

NO .. they didnt take that place .. that place is still empty ..
the Showroom is after that place ...

I've asked for a test drive this afternoon and what a small world it is... The Nissan X-Trail dealer here in Chennai is known to me from way back in the 80s LOL. If MotorMom has no problem with the ingress and egress (she has severe arthritis), I might consider buying this car... Bhailog, please post your views on whether I should consider buying the X-Trail or not, thanks.

If you're looking at X-trail sort of a vehicle, you should seriously think in terms of the Tucson. The X-Trail has better off-roadability, but then at nearly 7 lakhs less the Tucson makes much more sense. Not to speak of lower servicing costs.

Did you mean the Tucson or the Terracan ?
Isn't Tucson around 15ish and the Terracan around 20ish ?

I meant the Tucson, which is in the same size category (and engine, for that matter) as the X-Trail. The Terracan is a much bigger vehicle and has a mother of an engine!

Thanks, Steeroid, if MotorMom has no problem with getting in and out of the X-Trail, I sure will look at the Tuscan/ Terracan too, but I must say that I never liked the Tuscan looks, finsih on the interiors and the 2.0 engine. Thanks once again, Steerman.

Nice vehicle to drive in our traffic, pretty cool engine for the 2.2 it is, nice driving feel, LOTS of torque, very very basic features even on the top-end one, nice big sunroof, instrument cluster in center can be unsafe at times as it takes one's eyes off the road for longer, great ride with almost non-existant bodyroll. The price for what it is and the price it is on offer at is crazy and has me confused a little (a little over 27.25OTR, Chennai - It's a CBU and attracts 104% duty)... No wonder the CRV sells so much and Steerman was recommending the Tucsan. I still say the X-Trail was nice to drive, nothing to write home about, but NICE!

Oh! I must add that Mr. Natrajan, Mr. Abraham and everyone at P.S. Natarajan & Co., Chennai are polished, well-informed technologically and even otherwise, patient, helpful (even went as far as helping in finding ways to ease ingress and egress for MotorMom) and really know how to do business in a warm and yet professional way. By far, they have been the best I have seen and trust me, I have bought and sold many cars of different makes. Hats off, PSN & Co.

Now drive the Tucson and tell us the differences between the two.

Then talk to Pete and find out how his box can bring your Tucson's power close to that of the X-Trail for about Rs.25,000.

Then pay Rs.16 lakhs for the Tucson and save yourself 10 big ones. Go buy yourself an original import R1 for the change and still have money left over to pay for fuel for the two vehicles.

Steerman, I found out about the Tuscan and Terracan and will PM you my response as I don't want this thread to become a "Tuscan Vs X-Trail" thread or a "Steer is so cool and Boom is so hot" thread... LOL. Just gimme 30 minutes and I'll PM you... Am supposedly working :D .
