@yatin: thanks for the precise response and congratulations on bokking your new ride. I thought as much about the build quality aspect.
Hope Tata-Fiat offer ABS and airbags on both the Palio and the Vista soon.
I really liked the Vista . It was also a bit more powerful than the Palio, but though there are loads of features on the Vista Aura , it some how didn't feel like build to last. This is the first Tata car that you will want rather than you'll have to settle for as said in Autocar . Especially the Aura varient is superb value for money .No there wasnt a gap too big , both cars had it's own strengths and weekness . Like the Palio has ancient dashboard and there is no digital readouts for odo and tripmeters. And the Vista has superb soft feel plastics on the dash , but the power window buttons and the door handles feel fragile and crude . Though I do hope that since it was the first lot of production , quality of such things is going to improve over the time. One main reason why I chose the Fiat was there was a waiting period of six weeks for the vista , but the Fiat was readily availible. How ever I am very happy with the Fiat , now more so because it has superb models lined up for India and also because it owns Ferrari , so now I atleast have an indirect relation with Ferrari..:)
I was looking for a new car within a budget of no-more-than-4lakhs for my in-laws in kolkata. The requirements were: good space, decent mileage & A**, good ride quality. The above criteria were met by only palio1.1.
We zeroed on SLE model, the on-road price in kolkata: 3.71lakhs which includes 3 years maintenance, mattings and mud flaps and a music system free of cost. It looks to be a great by at this price.

That seems like a sweet deal, but are you sure it is "3 yrs maintenance"? I think it is the 3 years / 1,50,000 km warranty. Please check.
That apart, the Stile 1.1 is a good car for sedate city driving, and can take the occassional highway runs with ease. Agreed it is only 57 BHP, but look at all the NA Indicas.
Check how good your Service Support is, though.

They are giving 18 months warranty by default. With an additional payment of Rs. 4200/-, the warranty gets extended by another 18 months. The price of 3.71 lakhs on-road is including the extended warranty.
Fiat services are always questionable, but it has improved.
I myself drive a Getz Prime 1.3 GLS in Pune. So, when I test drove Palio Stile 1.1, definitely I found it underpowered. But it is sufficient to drive around the city in a relaxed way. The ride comfort is definitely good and unmatched at this price.
I test drove UVA as well, and really liked its ani-knock feature. The car goes smoothly at 10 km/hr in 3rd gear, no need to down shift. But UVA is about 50K costiler.
Nice to see an exclusive Thread for Palio Stile 1.1. I have booked mine, I was pretty confused about the colors, Finally I narrowed down to Blue for Furnace Red, and now i have opted furnace red SLX. I am processing the loan through SBI, they take a lot of time but its worth when it comes to Interest rates and other flexible repayment options.. Just cant wait to get the car.. Will soon post some pics !!
Hi all,
After enduring the time delay, finally I got my palio slx ( Furnace red) on 17th JAN 2009. I am very much happy with the car, Its really VFM. They have given many options where even a 6 lakh swift doesnt have!!
Features
These are some mindblowing feature for its onroad price.. (4 lakhs)
1. D foger
2. Rear Wiper
3. Parking mode ( key turned anticlock wise by pressing the small button in the key hole)
4. 4 power widow with a child lock for the rear
5 wiring for 6 soeakers and antena
6 No compromise in build quality ( weighing 1 ton)
7. Manul Central locking
8. Fog lamps
9. Body color door handles, mirrors and bumper ( the bumber is the strongest i have seen when compared to any car in the market today- its solid)
10. Ready charger\lighter, cup holders in the front
This is all i remember, sorry if i had missed few points.
Handling & Performance
I was using 800 before i got this car. I was looking out for a spacious hatch back and my budget was around 4 lakhs.
Bangalore is a place where you can never avoid or escape traffic, unless you drive after 11 in the night or before 7 in the morning. Yesterday I got stuck in outer ring road , where the traffic is sad in peak hours. I was just sitting inside the car and moving inch by inch, The car was just pulling smooth, the clutch is great to handle. I saw other cars around me, Swift VXI, UVA,GETZ 1.1 etc .All these cars are priced more than a lakh when comapred to SLX.But they are also among the crowd when it comes to traffic, infact swift is broader than palio, it always struggles to find gaps, The car has a small belly around it, that makes it tougher at times.
ok here are some Q & A
1. What do all other cars have extra?
Ok they are all more powered.
2. Where can they use that power other than highways?
No where in bangalore traffic
3. Is slx initial pick sufficent to drive insde city traffic?
More than enough, unless u want to drag or make it run for a 100 m race.
4. What other benifits when comapred to other cars in the same range?
Space..... FE....... Strong build... priced very less with all features
5. Anything else?
Its From F I A T
6.People say that A$$ is bad for fiat, is that true now??
Not anymore , After linea's launch things have changed for the better.
7. Can u explain more about its pulling capacity??
For a city usage its doing a fair job... My need is a TANK of water, It doesnt matter if i get it from a small lake or bigger lake or ocean. end of the day i use only one tank, I preffer sticking to a small lake! rather spending more on a ocean.
Highways
I went for a long drive to coorg via mysore higheway. I made sure i keep the speed within 80 to 90 and I kept the RPM < 2500.
Once the car reaches 60- 70 km speed, it feels like any other car, in few seconds without you knowing the speed goes to 100, then you realise. I bet the car can easily do 120 . I am happy with this power, I dont want to run at 200 or 160 for indian roads. 120 or 100 is more than enough to reach the destination and also its safer when you get suprised by speed bakers without sign boards. Highways I got 16 km\Pl with AC 100% . I get 14 km\pl in the city with ac 50%.
In a single line i should say this car simply rocks. I recenty did the ICE.The car doesnt need any damping, there is no ratling noise or jaring noice with amp and subwoofer.
I cheerish each and every moment when i handle this car. ok here are some pics of the red bird.

Will write more in the days to come!:)
Congratulations and glad to see you happy with your buy! Good detailed owning experience. This should help other prospective Palio buyers to understand the positives of the car!
Why did u opt for Red instead of blue? I wanted a blue but no option in a 1.6 Stile!
Cheers~

Congratulations on the new car. I am in the process of buying one for my family in kolkata.
The TATA-Fiat dealer told me that it is not possible for to fit a remote lock in palio stile. I was shocked. Any information on this?
Any plans for tyre upgrade? I am planning for a 185/70 R13 Michelin XM1. But not seeing any stile1.1 owner with that upgrade, though quite a few MJD owners have done that.
Congratulations Sri & Sups on your choice of Palio Stile 1.1!
A nice car for City drives and occassional highway rides.

The dealer is talking crap, you can install Autocop at any reputed Auto accessory shops who are familiar with Palio's wiring.

Yes, 185/70 R13 is the right upsize for Palio 1.1/1.2/1.3 on 13" rims.
Go for Michelin XM1.
Make sure that you go to a reputed shop who knows palio wiring. Many people are waiting out there to screw up palios. and the electricals on the palio are slightly on the sensitive side thats why the dealers were not wanting to take the risk

Thanks finneyp. I will check with accessory shop.
Regarding 185/70 R13 Michelin XM1, do you think this upgrade may reduce the pick of stile1.1, particularly because its only a 57 BHP car? I am ready to lose little bit of mileage, but not on the pickup and comfort factor. Your comments will be helpful.
Guys, going through the thread, I thought I would drop in a few lines.
I have completed 19786 kms on my Palio Stile 1.1 SLE. And I must say the experience has been fabulous.
I don't feel there is a need to talk about the build quality as such as much has been talked about it. Although I must add that is a safe feeling that one gets once inside the Italian Stallion.:)
And for all those out there who are wondering what the mileage is-
The best I have done till date is 16.8 in city with AC on 20% of the time.
And in summers I get around 13 with AC on all the time.
A special Thanks to Architect, who helped me find the best service center (Samyak-Elegant) in town.
The Remote locking kit which goes with palio is auto cop, as said by thomas, the wiring is very sensitive, if some short circuit happens, Everything will collapse right from lock to power windows.
