Maybe they will but perhaps a check of some tour operators' experience with Scorpio may tell a different story. In Delhi at least, some tour operators I know and have dealt with that budget will take a Tavera, old Qualis, or even a Sumo rather than deal with a swinging and tyre-eating Scorpion.

That appears honest review, its expected anyway Xylo cant come close to Innova. Onething I noticed in Innova is handling/controlling in Innova is 85% of what can be done in any Sedan or Premium Hatchback.

I remember how Scorpio and Sumo and Safari reacted in emergency braking. So this habbit is not changed in Xylo also then :(

Xylo/Sumo Grande can't provide worldclass refinement like Innova. But still they can attract buyers in India.

People think Innova is very costly where as Xylo/Sumo are cheap hence don't buy Innova.

Anyway M&M have done some progress. I hope there won't be any price increase in face lifted Innova which is coming real soon.

People who need 7/8 seator cheap MUV buy Xylo, people who need peace of mind/refinement/quality/luxury/safety buy Innova. This is is what I learnt when I studied these 2 products.

Regards,

Ravi.

The company I work for has a fleet of Scorpios and I am sure the Xylo will make it in due course.

With due apologies to the many Scorpio owners on TBHP, to me the M&M Scorpio has one of the worst body roll charateristics I've experienced in any passenger vehicle. UGH! It is so bad that I almost feel sea sick. And no kidding here. My brother had a Tata Safari that was quite tolerable by comparison. From the review it seems the Xylo is worse.

Cheers!

So somebody who wants to save on electricity bills for using AC at home can look forward for your suggestion.
Anyways thats a very early TD report and your comments were quite hilarious.

One doubt, what causes body roll? Is it dependent solely upon the suspension being employed?

Mainly centre of gravity (CG) and the suspension. A high CG and soft suspension aggravate it.

We have high CG in most Indian designed cars classified as 'people carriers' (examples are Tata Sumo, Tata Safari, M&M Scorpio and now Xylo) because of the high clearance and softer suspension to provide ride comfort to the passengers over rough roads prevalent in India. Even the Maruti Gypsy has this to a certain extent but the Scorpio beats any other Indian car hollow when it comes to awful body roll.

Cheers!

The way Mahindra has shown and marketed the vehicle, I was happy to have a much improved MUV that would give competition to Innova, but it looks like Mahindra could have done better. From the test drive it looks like the handling is not near to car i.e. small cars and sedans, something that Innova has. Add to that the ride quality, if a UV is not having a good ride quality, then it a big loss, as these are meant to move people.
Again I believe that the engine is heavy and is playing spoilsport here.

They could have certainly done better. I hope Mahindra comes up with a " new " updated Xylo soon to rectify all the issues.

I think the reason for lot of bashing from the T-BHP members atleast is because of the high expectation every one had on this vehicle.

Every auto magazines were reporting from almost 2 years that Xylo will be a product to compete with the Innova.Even i read somewhere that dash was redesigned because it was not up to the standards of Innova.Only the space and the seating comfort is in the same league of Innova.Nothing else is comparable.I really dont think it will kill the sedans as told by M&M.Those who have a big family with limited budget will only pick this over a sedan.Still no space at all for luggage with full seats occupied.

I think it is actually your fault. You should have taken the xylo to a lake for test drive

That aside, Indian manufacturers are into automobile manufacturing for more than a decade now and are still not able to manufacture quality products. Would it be tough to hire some engineers from Toyota or Maruti? Or may be that's how they cut the costs.

But everybody makes sure the public suffers. If the product is cheap, it is not reliable. And the reliable ones are very expensive.

Nice and honest review. Thanks. Got some first impressions about the vehicle. The interior looks very good in photos published by M&M

Wish we could improve on the products we make

Back in the 70s we had only Ambys, Padminis, and a few Heralds to rule 4wheels on our roads, the Bullets, Javas, Rajdoots and Chetaks for the 2 Wheels. Remember in 80s the chetaks were exported to Gulf countries and it was bought by Indian Expats there and shipped back to India (since the waiting periods for a chetak in India was long) Those export models of chetaks were far different from what we got here (it was of very high quality-probably what we call the 1st Quality) when Bajaj found their products comeing back to the country, the next batch of them were loosing the quality but still better than what we got out here (probably that was the second quality of Chetaks and what we got here was the 3rd Quality) This proves that we can make good vehicles, then whats stopping us? probably the attitude of our manufaturers that we will take anything. Look how the Peugeot failed badly in India cos they took Indians for granted and shipped a very bad outdated model. Should they have come with their latest offering (206 or 306) at that time, Iam sure it would have been successfull in India. Now we have much more choices to feel the differences of our Japanese and European counterparts even the Koreans. Our manufacturing industry should rise up to the occassion and prove to the world on what we can do. Its high time we improve and give more importance to R&D to produce products thats second to none. We can do it. We will do it.

i dont want to compare the Xylo with any sedan because it is meaning less to compare a MUV with a sedan.

Xylo and body roll? Rather M/SUVs and body roll?! Complete and utter nonsense. There's no such thing.

There's no such thing as bad gyroscopic (is that the word?) stability or chassis design - there's only bad drivers. Remember, if you're feeling body roll, you're driving too fast and need to slow down!

Of course, dear BHPians, I didn't mean any of that. Was just venting some junk from my system But yes, valid points - need to get a TD. I'd have hoped that they would've sorted such basic things out while they kept the hype machine running.

I really dont understand, why cant we learn from the other "stable" MUV's in this class available across the world. Why do we want to reinvent the wheel and end up making a boat out of it.

Just like they use AVL for engine design/development, why cant they use it for their chasis and suspension design.

When will Indian Auto Mfg's evolve, when ??

Has anyone else test-driven the vehicle and can they confirm that the Xylo is indeed a 'swinger'?

If yes, the Xylo tagline might as well read "Cant stop swinging!" or "Dont start if you're not a swinger!"

Still would like to wait for other reviews as well (and not from known M&M boys).

Which brings us to Shri A J Darukhanawalla's wholesome praise for the vehicle in some TV show. Maybe he was talking about a Xylo that was standing still?
