A lesser speed might have given a better mileage but a really boring drive!

Great drive, isn't it.

Congrats BJ. Nice collage of pictures for your memories.

Somehow, i feel that 9000KM is a little low for two years with this beast.

EDIT : Didnt realise you had mentioned 9000 MILES.

Nothing unusual to report... just made a recent investment. Hope to keep the safari and bullet creak free

re: My Tata Safari 4x4. EDIT: Sold after 11 years

Updating after a long time. Work, family, health, age... all catching-up, less time for drives. Anyways, just back from 5th and final free service at Concorde Motors, Pune. Nothing unusual- just oil+filter change, greasing, wheel balanicng etc. Cost ~Rs 3000/-. Initial impression of Concorde service is good. Odo now reads 22,255 kms. Only about 1% of this is 4x4.

Come 15 Feb and truck will celebrate 4th anniversary being part of the family. It still drives like a dream, in fact engine is smoother than ever, barring few squeaks and creaks from door trims and plastics. Some moments from past year, including a side swipe by errant Pune cabbie- dent on the pocket was some 12k (including 5k recovered from him).

Saw Storme for the first time, in flesh, at Concorde. Impressed!! Sent SMS to the home minister, but, she was unimpressed. Guess she is fixated on the Brio

As Prime Minister, you should have taken the decision if you mean to instead of SMS-ing the Home Minister

Btw, I am in the same boat as yours with even a newer Safari [2010 VX 4X4], completely tempting to go for Storme. Interesting piece was while I was thinking about Storme, I started thinking and debating b/w ARIA and Storme. But, decided to go for nothing for now.
Probably, I will wait for another year and decide. I hope, a refresh comes to both Storme and ARIA !

Prem.

Dear BJ,

Where all do you use this grease gun on safari. I was of the impression that there are no nipples on my beast! Please help me identify the potential locations.

Thanks

Same here too. Hopefully, they will iron out any issues in the first batch production release of Storme by then.

Propellor shaft near rear wheel axle and steering arms (whatever it is called) under the engine/guard. Basically, try to crawl under the truck and look for the greasy points. You will also notice nipples. A freshly serviced Safari (with fresh grease) helps to spot these places easily. The long neck of the gun can also be used to apply grease where your hand can't reach easily.

Excited with my new tool, I had poured 200gm sachet of freshly purchased SKF general purpose grease into the gun. Used some of them and stored rest hoping to use it later. After few months, my basement storage was soiled with grease/oil due to leaking nipple. Basically grease is held under pressure by the spring loaded piston and Pune summer (~40 degC) melt it .
Lesson learned- never leave unused grease in the gun.

re: My Tata Safari 4x4. EDIT: Sold after 11 years

With some sense of sadness but lots of happy memories I announce the retirement of my Safari. At just over 64000 kilometres and about 11 long years it was still a very capable tourer but due to lack of parking space and utility, we decided to let it go in exchange of a long cherished dream of BMW X3. Here is a parting collage .
