Tata Nano: A Photologue
(

yes, this is next to croma. and the head space of this car rivals mini vans :-)
Most TBHP folks have not seen the Nano in person. Is it because they are not offered for test drives? A lukewarm response to Nano ?

Because they don't go to Croma or Westside very often, they are too busy bickering online about Biturbo V12's and Leather Upholstry and ESP and 1700bhp and silly things like that :D

Yes, they are good, however I have noticed that Nano looks much better and Less of In Your Face in flesh than in pics.
Went to Pandit automotive in Pune @Swargate last week to give my Indigo Dicor for service. Got a chance to see Nano personally. Since it was early in the morning; crowd was thin and I got good chance to explore Nano. Here are my observations:
1. Nano makes you fall in 'love at first site' with it! It is a really cute car to look at. Especially the LX version looks awsome.
2. The fit and finish is quite good as well. You wonder if this is a car from Tata stable. Further you wonder if the cost quoted is real!
3. Open the door and you feel really impressed with the amount of space available inside. The interiors are well crafted. LX version comes with fabric inserts on door pads and also with all fabric seat covers. The seats themselves are very comfortable and offer adequate support. Yes, 4 well built human beings could comfortably seat in Nano. The head room, leg room is far more then M 800. We all know about it, but the when you really 'feel' it ; it is overwhelming. I could seat along with 2 more 'not so heavy' friends in the back seat.
4. Getting in and out of Nano is quite comfortable. The doors open quite wide and high seating position translates in to very comfortable ingress and outgress.
5. Positioning of pedals is a little bit of disappointment. They are shifted left a bit to accomodate bulde of Right front wheel. This might take a bit of time to get used to.
6. Front seats offer fantastic all round view. You immediately feel being in commanding position.
7. I found doors a bit 'thin' in comparision with other cars.
Tata is carrying out extensive testing currently. There are two cars allocated to Pandit Auto in Pune which are out on city roads from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. They claim that they are getting around 23 -24 km per litre average with a.c. ON in Pune city. This is with Driver and dead weight of 60*3 = 180 Kg. They are using steel plates to create dead weight in the cabin. These figures look quite impressive. If you translate the same into the cost per KM ( cosidering 1 liter of petrol costing 48 Rs.) you get around 2 rs. per km cost.
Overall, I really enjoyed spending time with Nano. I came back with smiling face. I believe that it is a real value for money car.
I feel Nano is real VFM.
Besides i feel the first lot which rolls out of the factory will have the best fit in every way.Remember when Maruti Suzuki 800 SS and DX came in 1984,everything was imported from Japan except tyres.
Hence i justified myself in booking a Nano today.
Nice, the quality of materials used looks quite good. Great pictures Frank. It is the first time that I am seeing the Nano so closely :)
I saw the Nano and sat in it. It's really comfortable. I sat in the back seat too and asked the guy there to push the front seats fully back. They still didn't touch my knees (I'm about 5'10"). It's real VFM. Safety is not an issue. It's much safer than the 800. In fact what safety features does a scooter or autoriksha have. Most people who criticize the Nano have no problem in travelling in the above two. But when it comes to the Nano, suddenly they're concerned about safety, NCAP ratings, ABS, airbags etc.

The alloys look cool on the LX version.
Impressive pics of the front boot.So much mechanism.
But truly i was impressed by Nano and almost decided to book it. |
The "Alloys" are not really alloys. They're actually steel wheels, styled like alloys. Check the FAQ on the Nano website.
There was a lot of commotion @ Concorde motors Bangalore this evening at around 4:30 PM. Lot of foreign guests as well. All with Toyota ID cards. There was a Camry there. Supposedly the guests came in it.
Here are a few pics of the same.
I asked a guy who 'seemed' important there about the bookings of the Nano. He replied "Bookings closed sir!!"
Question: Why is Toyota interested in the Nano. They were inspecting the fitment quality as well as taking snaps of it.
Here are what I could manage!
Some more pictures!!
From the first pic, the front bumper looks like the Innova refresh or hell, all of the new generation Toyota fronts. Could it be that they had a hand in concept/design/manufacture of some part of the car? :o
OT: One more thing I saw which I just have to show::D
umm strange.toyota representatives checking out a tata :D
