The DTE is not always accurate

Today morning, I just started the Car (did not move the car anywhere)
the DTE was showing 501 and after 3 minutes it came down to 500. I switched off the car. AGain this afternoon, I put on the car, the DTE shown as 509?
How best we can believe the DTE?

I think the important point to note is the low fuel warning lamp as according to the Manual this light comes up at approximately 80kms before the tank is empty?

@Nairrk: Now I have pretty much learnt about the DTE. Don't look at it too much. I do full tanks all the time and check the FE. Its around 11.

@MileCruncher: I am good, How about you? The reliance visit was 2 weeks before I guess, Do you stay closeby? I have been planning to attend the team meet from long time but work on the opposite side of Hitech City. Will certainly make it sometime
