This problem that you are facing could be due to incorrect seating. Try a different seat adjustment (Fore and Aft) and see if you get this pain again.

The seating in the Ritz is IMO, one the comfortable cars I have ever driven and I not saying this just like that. I have never faced any pain in the 3 years stint I had covering 1.1 lakh kms.

As Anurag said, you are sitting too close to the pedals in order to get a better front view. My dad faced this issue in the initial days of driving the WagonR. Push back the seats so that when no pedal is pressed, your ankles are relaxed.

Re: Maruti Ritz : Test Drive & Review

Apologies for the long post and the late update. Had completed the sixth (3 rd paid) service of my 2009 Maruti Suzuki Ritz Vxi in the first week of April. The odo as of today stands at 28760 kms. Yes, a sparingly used car, its generally a weekend drive which explains the low running. Zero issues till date, not even rattles touchwood. The A.S.S in question is Popular vehicles and services, Vytilla, Cochin. Service was carried out strictly adhering to what was mentioned in the service manual( the car had completed 4 years so this was the 4 year/40k service). Decided to change to synthetic oil. Decided on Mobil 1 fully synthetic oil after hearing all the suggestions and reviews. Another option was Shell synthetic but my MASS here doesn't stock the Shell brand, hence decided to go ahead with Mobil 1. Total charges came to around 9200/- inclusive of all taxes.

Just had one issue in the 4.5 years of ownership. There was a distinct khat-khat noise from the front left suspension. Mentioned this to my SA and was promptly diagnosed to a worn out coil spring which was replaced and costed 600/- including labour. So the final bill was 9800/- inclusive of all taxes and labour charges. The bill is with dad and hence it is currently not available at the moment. Apologies for that.A full wash is not included in the labor charges now. Both me and dad were surprised since this wasn't the case earlier. It now costs 200/- extra which i politely declined. The SA told me that he will try and include wheel balancing and alignment FOC which I knew was just plain BS. Declined that too. Usually I get this done from the dealer itself for convenience sake but this time I chose not to. Must mention here that the labour charges are going up with every service. Is this the case in other cities as well ?
The change to synthetic has proven to be well worth the money. the K12M is butter smooth now and is all the more eager to red line. Hoping to post my impressions in a long term ownership report soon.
Went to DBS tyres, Edapally, Cochin after the service for wheel balancing and alignment. Was attended to by Mr. Mithun, nice chap. But I was in for a rude shock when after detailed examination he told me that both alignment and balancing have never been done properly in this car. So much for letting the A.S.S guys handle these. I decided then and there never to let these guys do alignment jobs ever again. Was given a detailed report and i came to know there was a slight bend in all the rims and the tyres ( those ugly JK Tornadoes) even though had a lot of tread in them were not in the best shape. He advised me to run these tyres for the current year and change the rims and tyres to new ones which is exactly what I will be doing. Wanted to change it at the earliest but the lack of Vitamin M prevents me from doing so. Total damages 840/-( includes N2 filling and siomepuncture repairs on the stepney). The drive home was really smooth and i had a big grin all over my face.
Last month paid a visit to 3M car care for Paint sealant advanced package, PPF and CF wraps. booked a slot the previous day and was attended to by Mr Sanil. Again had a wonderful experience. To start with i have never gone in for any sort of detailing on the car. Just the regular wash once or twice a month. There were a lot of scratches everywhere some big ones too. My car was taken in after a detailed examination. Also got PPF done for all four door edges and some CF wraps on the mirrors.
Total Damages :
Paint Sealant Advanced - 5312/- Inclusive of taxes
PPF (3M) - 550/-
CF Wraps - 350/-
Meguiars MF cloth - 520/-

Total damages came to around 6750/- .
The paint is much smoother now and most of the scratches and swirls have been taken care of.

Re: Maruti Ritz : Test Drive & Review

Hello All,

I have a Maruti Ritz VXi version bought in 2010. I have driven close to 45k. I have few questions which needs answer.

1. I am planning to change my car tires. Need suggestion on what brand should I go for? Yokohama or Michelin or MRF or Bridgestone?
2. I am looking at tire size of 185 without alloys. Can I do that do that, considering the fact my car came with a 165 size tires.
3. For the last few days, I feel Air conditioner in my car is not running properly. It doesn't cool properly. When I spoke to the MSM mechanic, I was informed that AC may need cleaning and it would cost close to 4K. Reason for the cost is that, whole dashboard needs to be taken out to have access to AC & gas needs to be refilled.
4. My car shock absorbers creating some noise when it goes through bumps, doesn't matter small or big. MSM mechanic told me that it needs replacement & it would cost 7K.
5. My clutch doesn't seem to be smooth and also there is a screeching sound. It would again cost close to 5k for the replacement.

Please let me know if the above costs are reasonable or I need to check the local mechanic.

I can answer your first 2 questions. I had Michelin XM2 185/65 R14 tyres on my Ritz running on stock steel wheels for 2 years. They performed brilliantly and the improvements are very evident, be it reduced road noise in the cabin or better braking/ grip levels. You may want to consider Yokohama Earth1 too. They are similar to Michelins and significantly cheaper too.

No Bridgestone and MRF please. Go for Michelin XM2, best bet AFAIK.

Yes, you can upsize to 185 section on the stock steel wheels.

Go to the A/C specialists and get a fair idea what could be wrong, post which go to MASS or else get the thing sorted or there.

How is ride? Hard and back-breaking? If yes then the springs could be worn out.

Get the clutch bled and inspect for wear and tear. If too bad then replace. AFAIK, the screeching sound could be related to release bearings.

My experience with Bridgestone has been so much better than Michelin. I had XM1 on my City and that was not a good tyre IMHO. I've been using Turanzas both on my Ritz and Optra and have been very happy so far.

Ritz tyres have done 67500 and holding well.

Had changed XM1 to Yoko A drives on my City and they were good too, worth a try.

XM series IMO is a energy efficient series which is supposed to return better FE, while they claim to do that they also have shorter life and a slightly harder ride.

I an not saying Bridgestone ate bad but not that great when compared with Yokohama and Michelin. I had Bridgestone S248 (165/80 R14) on my Ritz VDi where the factory fit tyres lasted for 61K kms without affecting safety (110 kms a day) so I decided to go with the same set again. This set lasted till I sold off the car at 107959 kms.

All I'm trying to say is the Bridgestone are hard and tough built so that last a lot giving the driver a feel like lot like is left but the rubber had aged due to driving and environmental conditions. The Michelin and Yokohama show these stresses but MRF and Bridgestone do not.

True, none is better than the other as a brand, it is only that a model to model comparison is that matters. The B248 are very basic tyres and should not be compared to anything other than basic MRFs. Turanza/ Potenza are a different world.

Michelin used to sell certis which I liked earlier, but after buying XM1 I found it to be a compromise. It only lasted 40-50k on my City, was loud and hard!

Thanks for the suggestions Anurag. As far as ride is concerned, it is not hard or back breaking. It is just that I hear a sound from the front tires when I go through a speed breaker or bump. Like a ticking sound as if something obstructing the shocks.

Thanks SLK & Anurag, From your suggestions, I will check on Earth I / XM II / Torenzos & Potenzos.

For your information, my stock tires are JK brand.

I have a doubt your SA is going to have field day if you car goes to service. I do NOT find a reason for AC re-fill at 45K, neither a suspension or clutch change; unless you are a first time driver or you drive thru very bad traffic / roads.

I suggest you take it to a very capable independent garage or A/C guy and even if you need replacement, you will only spend less than half of what is quoted.

Most stock tyres are crap except for Acceleres. I doubt Potenza is in production any more, it's been replaced by MY02 IIRC. If you are on a budget, please do try MRF ZLO - they are worth every penny. These are more comfort oriented tyres, are silent and grippy but little bad on performance around corners or try MY 02 if you love to sweep thru corners. The downside of Bridgestone MY02 / Yokohama S-Drives would be higher noise levels, hard ride etc. Michelins are BEST of the lot, but quite expensive too. If you drive thru a lot of bad roads, then these soft tyres (ZLO, A Drive, Michelin) should NOT be what you are looking at.

Hi swiftnfurious.. I am not a first time driver but I ride through bumper to bumper traffic on a daily basis.

On AC thing, I was told by the SA that if AC requires cleaning, then gas needs to be refilled by default.. Not sure why.

Roads which I drive through are not great so soft tires will not work for me... So need look for hard ones.

Re: Maruti Ritz : Test Drive & Review

guys, need your inputs on an issue that is there on my Ritz Zdi. The rear wiper blade seems to have a bend in the middle, so when it works, only the top and bottom part of the blade touches the glass whereas the center, doesn't, which leaves the center part uncleaned. Wanted to check with other Ritz owners if there is a similar situation or is it isolated to my car ?
There is also a screeching noise coming form the wiper when it is action. need to get that checked.
The car is only 3 months old, 2014 model.

Try changing the wiper blade and see if the issue persists. If yes then the frame of the wiper arm needs to be changed.

Additionally, wipe your glass with mild shampoo and water and clean it with a cloth/newspaper.

Use the same mild Shampoo concentrate for wiper washer fluid as well.

When screeching noise (apart from hard rubber on the wiper blades) can also be due to the glass surface itself and Shampoo water (or equivalent) will help reduce this.
