Review: 2nd-gen Honda Jazz
(
https://www.team-bhp.com/forum/test-drives-initial-ownership-reports/60146-review-2nd-gen-honda-jazz-114.html)
Thanks for the reply Sandeep.
I will book Basic model. I wish to go for XMT but money factor preventing me doing that as I will also need money for accessories.
I will wait for Sun Film as you said, anyways rains are starting so there should not be a much problem.
I had Carpet Lamination in my Logan which kept my floor perfect clean as I had it right from the day one. It helps for cleaning also.
Reverse sensor.. hmm. I will use the car for some days and then decide.
So I will go for Seat Covers, carpet Lamination, Door Pad Lamination and 3M detailng initially.
Thanks again.

If you are booking other than X model, seat covers may be necessary since the seats are beige.
Sun film - in view of the ban on films, I suggest you wait a while. While the Jazz does cry out for film in our climate, wait and watch better for time being.
Door pad lamination (they are beige too) may help more. Just put mats of your choice on the carpets.
Car comes with mud flaps.
Reverse sensor is the mirror type, which I am not too fond of, but again your choice if you feel you cannot judge the rear.
3M underbody and panel rust protection is a must, IMO. |
Good inputs sundeep:)! How is the quality of the seat-fabric. will it be in good shape through the life of the car; else we need to go for covers across all variants.

My Jazz also has similar variation. 0.8-1 when driven on highway and around 1.2 in the city. I had suggested the SM guy to reset the ECU. But he did not agree. Any other suggestions to reduce this variation ? |
Mine started out with a variation of 1.4 and it seems to be convering to 1.2 so far. Will wait and provide an update. Everything so far is city driven. Also i think the variation will be higher if your trip reading is lower i.e. you'll have lesser variation for a trip of 400km than say for a trip of 100km, since i see the avg kmpl modifying only slightly after a longish attempt on either side ( good or bad).
Will keep all posted if the convergence continues.

In my experience of driving the Jazz on the highway, the best mileage numbers I could extract was when I was doing about a steady 110. Better than even the 80 - 100 range.

At last after almost 15 months I will finally book the Jazz in 2-3 days.
I will try to see if I can get some accessories free. But if not, I have a list of accessories which I feel important but Money factor may prevent me to do so. Can existing Jazz owners and experts help me in decide must have accessories.
1. Seat Covers.
2. Sun Film
3. Carpet Lamination.
4. Mud Flaps
5. Mats.
6. Reverse Sensors. |
Congrats _Vyenky and welcome to the club. I will try to list how I would prioritise the accessories.
1. Seat covers
2. Mats/ Carpet lamination (monsoon is around the corner)
3. Reverse sensors
Assuming mud flaps are provided in standard. I would avoid sun film for now though it is absolutely essential for the Jazz. Have you asked if they would provide you tinted glasses in accordance with the SC ruling? That will save you one big headache.
I had been to Hallmark Honda today to check if I can TD Jazz again. I had a chance to TD Jazz but that it almost 15 months back. But I could not do TD today as there is no TD vehicle available. Instead I tried Brio and found good quality in comparison with other vehicles in the same range.
Wife also liked Brio but due to lack of headrests at the back and since we have almost finalized on Jazz now we did not took it seriously with executive. There is almost 25k discount on Brio and executive promised me he can arrange for some more cash discount also.
He said he will try to arrange a TD of Jazz tomorrow or day after tomorrow. at the same time we might book Jazz.

That's good to hear! What kind of numbers do you generally manage on highway drives? And in the city?
I'm bit concerned about mileage, considering my driving habits. Honestly, my driving skills don't match-up anywhere close to the mileage champions I've seen on T-Bhp. Even with my Zen Estilo (1.1L engine!) I hardly get around 11-12 in the city and barely 15 on the highway. Considering that the Jazz is a little more "tricky" to get mileage out of, I'm a bit concerned.

The Brio offer is actually quite tempting! With the discounts, the Brio S(O)MT works out to nearly 1.3L cheaper than Jazz basic, in Mysore. Considering that their engine and equipment/safety levels are almost on par, I found the Brio's pricing quite good.
I visited the dealer to do a TD of the Jazz, having almost finalized on it. But once I heard about the Brio's discounts, my mind started wavering!
I did a TD of the Brio, and found it quite good (I didn't get to check back-seat comfort). However, I heard a couple of not-so-good stories from Brio owners, especially about rear seat ride quality and mileage. I'm waiting for more long-term ownership reports. This is what is holding me back.
If you don't mind a smaller package, do look into the Brio seriously. It has really good pricing right now!
I was able to extract 21km/litre (meter showed 22km/l) with constant 90-100km/hr on CHN-BLR road. 3 adults and one child. Decent luggage.
FE figures will change according to the way your foot operates and ofcourse gear shifts. I always use block shifting.

Yes the Brio offer is really tempting and it is valid till this month only. It will be applicable for the cars registered in this month.
the only problem as you said rear seat ride. My wife felt a bit harsh. Although she is does not have major problem with it,but the problem is Brio does not have headrests at back and while she sits back ( while I am not in town she hire a driver) and feels to put head back.. there is no headrest. Today while TD she felt it very strongly.
although I dont mind smaller package, but her problem with no headrest is preventing me to look for Brio.

Those are very good figures for the highway. I do think the CHN-BLR road is one of the best in this part of the country.
What do you mean by "block-shifting"? How does one do it?

Block shifting is an old technique. Usually we up-shift gears 1-2-3-4-5 and downshift 5-4-3-2-1. In block shifting, we upshift 2-4 or 3-5. While downshifting, 5-3 or 5-2. But you have to match the rpm and speed of the car.
They say, we can save fuel this way. I dont have proof, but works for me.

Yes this works for me too. Have been doing it since ages and if you can tune yourself to shift correctly at the right rpms then you wont end up stalling the car. Ive got good mileage with this technique even on my petrol figo. My mileage figures are.in the figo thread.
Btw, does block shifting damage or harm the gear or clutchplate in anyway?
Regards.

Highway average is about 18, including odd ghat sections etc
City average is about 13.5
But then that is an overall average mileage. This includes the odd heavy traffic occasion.
I find it easier to maintain good mileage on the Jazz. I just have to avoid pushing that iVtec. Perhaps once you clock a few miles on it you will know what to do.
But at the end of the day, I wouldnt worry too much about it. If its going to cost me a few hundred bucks over a long trip, then why be serious? :)

Prabath & everyone, the test drive Jazz that Dakshin has is more than 2 yr old, and its very badly maintained. I've tried it. And also, I've had a bad experience with them, due to which I ended up canceling my booking.
I got my Black Jazz SMT variant (with Michelin tires) delivered in 2 weeks, from Magnum.
So I strongly recommend that you check with Magnum too.
If you need more information, pls PM me. |
How much is the on road price for SMT variant from Magnum Honda? Iam planning to book this weekend. Did they offer you any freebie?
Hi,
After much deliberations I'm going to book Honda Jazz (base model) Urban Titanium today / tomorrow. The wait period is 2 months. Currently the accessories which the SM has agreed to give are:
UV coating
Film
floor mats
reverse parking sensor
Need your advice on above. Are they good enough or should i ask for something different in lieu of what is being offered? I feel seat cover is a must but the SM says they're never in stock with Deccan Honda.

I guess you're lucky to be offered anything at all! The Jazz isn't making enough margins for Honda vs other models, so it hasn't seen any "official" offers from them yet! But, films are banned in India now! Do NOT get them installed!
Guys, I'm looking for a front armrest and a holder for my iPhone 4 & wife's iPhone 4S. Any suggestions?
