Update !!!

Deliveries in Pune should hopefully start next week. The RTO clearance should be with the dealers anytime soon

This wait has KILLED me !! Close to one month.

Will post the pics and report soon.

My TEAM-BHP stickers are desperate to get onto the car

@Amogh,
Good that you are finally getting your beauty home. I feel sorry for you, after having booked at launch time and still waiting is hard.
Hope the drive makes you forget this painful wait!

Also all this while your car is sitting in the dealer's yard?

What is this RTO issue really? I have never seen any new car finding it so difficult to get RTO clearence.

Ya maan .. the car has been sitting in the dealer's yard. It has clocked 40 kms. I am just looking forward to the delivery now.

Amit .. I have absolutely no idea buddy !! And I guess not many have any idea about it. It's just frustrating !! I have had some heated email exchanges with the Fiat people about this situation.

Mr.Rajeev Kapoor (CEO of Fiat India) also emailed me, but all he did was blame the dealer ... which I refuse to accept.

@ amogh,

are you still believing the RTO issue. my collegue booked a ritz 2 weeks ago and he got it registered within 2 days at sai service.

"hopeless dealers".

actually there is a process of booking and delivering. first you book the car with the dealer. he enters a ticket in CRM portal of tata motors, which is a all india level portal. so once he enters your name will appear at a certain level depending on how many people book all over india.
second parameter is the dealers Hundi. i.e. the amount of money deposited with TATA motors by the dealer. generally they keep about 20-40 lacs.
as soon as the cars are manufactured they are allocated to regional zone offices. its one for 4 cities. i think maharashtra and gujrat share same.
then they allocate the quotha to the respective dealer. the quotha consists of X no of cars of X color and so on.
now while the chassis number booked for you toggles between this big cycle the dealer keeps on fooling customers by all sorts of different ways.
if there is a full payment made they enjoy the interest and cash flow.

there are lots of thing which i might get bored writing and you hearing
so keep following up with the dealer.

It seems Tata folks goofed up the registration of G Punto with the Maharastra Transport Dept.
However, the approval is expected on 10-July (tomorrow).
This was reported by a member at PUG.

Hey Amit !! Good to hear from you bud !!

Yeah .. the RTO issue is for real. I checked from various other sources (some inside RTO) and they confirmed this. In fact, I think not only Pune / Maharashtra, some other states have also faced this issue.

Dealer has absolutely no incentive to hold the car because the car is already with him. I already have the chassis and engine number (as you already know .. you decoded it for me ) I have already seen the car and confirmed the chassis and engine number

And I would have blamed the dealer if only this particular dealer would have given me this reason. But the other big dealer in Pune (Pandit Auto) is also not able to start deliveries because of RTO clearance.

@ Amogh,
bro I am facing the same issue.
My baby is still running around with temp regn number.

Other than the fact that it is a minor irritant that I do not have a permanent regn, I also have to deal with the numerous cabbies here who feel that a person behind the wheel of a new unregn vehicle is definitely a noob. And hence I have to bear all the bullying tactics on road :(
