^^ 6kmpl :o

thats way too low for that car, my car usually give 9-11 in city with AC depending upon how you drive it. get the car checked i guess there is some problem .....

EDIT: minimum i got was 7.5kmpl but that includes more than 150kms on track ....

Congrats Varun. Going off topic but I must tell you Balaji guys are really crooks. One of my friends (stays Hiranandani Estate, Thane) bought a new Tata Vista Aqua Qudrajet from Balaji few months back. They charged him Rs. 12000 extra for Registration and Insurance, that he realized afterwards. My friend complained to all Tata Motors top officials and got the refund and they promised him that action will be taken against Balaji. I came acroos lot of complains against Balaji regarding misconduct with customers, exaggerate the labour charge, insurance, registration charges. So beware of Balaji.

Tried calling Amaron many time but there was no answer from their toll free numbers .

Got the Tata Gren delivered and installed at home, within 4 hours of calling their help line number.

Between Tata - Fiat A.S.S Balaji thane quoted Rs.5800 for the same Tata Green battery, when I told them that on Tata Greens website Din 44 Titanium series for Palio Petrol shows Rs.5485, the service centre guy told me " No sir battey am offering is 55 Apms and !!!! To my utter surprise when I cross checked with Tata Green dealer he said it didnt come in 55 Amps , it came as 60 Amps !!

I called help-line number from fiat India website to register a complain against Balaji, they heard my story and told they would take action and call me up in 24 hours .
Did the same with Tata Green , and response was dito !
Ultimately I got the battery for rs.4400 !!

What kind of crooks are these balaji guys !!

Long time it was due to update the thread, though I have kept on keying in my technical issues on the technical section.

I covered almost 2500kms , best efficency 13km/lt on highway, 9+kms/ltr in city. Worst 5 kms/lts.

Good part -
  • Excellent , great , fantastic car to drive !
  • Superb road presence, great highway manners.
  • Super built quality, people still stare after 7 odd years.
  • Spacious interiors - 3 adults can be comfortable in the rear.
  • Feeling - Man and machine are one. ( hope felow 1.6 owners understand)
  • Even for a 75 k run car , it still drives like a dream.
Bad part -
  • Nigling issue with the fuel pump relay. It has ben changed once, i had to push the car home once, irritating starting problem ( due to relay).
  • POOR FIAT A.S.S TECHNICAL CAPABILITY-when the fuel pump relay connked of and drained all battery of few time, it was infered by A>S>S - CHANGE ALTERNATOR no one bothered to llok at parasitic drain. A<S<S quote - 12 k , actual job done - 400 rupees !!!
  • Now the car was giving starting problems, injector light came on, stalled. I scrached my head for 15 days - no solution. Now the battery drained off completely - again relay problem . Hope to be driving by this wek end.
Lessons Learnt / Advice for Future Owners :
  • You have to understand the machine ,analysize the problems, be a member on TBHP and then take it to A.s.s. Else - YOU WILL BE ROBBED.
  • Give crisp instruction to the A.s.s- point out the exat problem and give them the probable solution. Else you end up being the test rabbit and they keep on changing everything in the car.
  • Better find a independent mechanic who know 1.6's - you can sit with him and iron out the chinks.
  • Fuel pump, Alternator, throttle body - 35 k + labour - are the weakest and unfortunately the costliest component.
  • Be prepared for a love - hate relation.
  • Palio - 1.6 when running fine - Addiction !
Regrets :

I cannot buy a Brand new S10/ 1.6 GTX. ( I dnt like the 1.6 stile for reasons unknown to me)
Descent A.s.s

Cheers.

@Karizma_Devil,

Nice n impartial review about owning a Palio S10/GTX. I second your openion about TATA A.S.S. Ensure to check with a good electrician around your place. Coz.. I was told that my starter was gone bad @ TATA A.S.S and told me that it will take 3 weeks to get a new one. I took it to a near by Electrican and he just replaced the bushes and its working fantastically now. and the labour and part charges turned to be Rs.600 instead of 7.5K for a new starter.

Hi all,

I have managed to find a S10, done roughly 66k on the odo and 2nd owner.
Guy claims that the 1st owner got it repainted red.
How do i check the authenticity of 2003 S10 painted red against a 1.6GTX?
Also, he is quoting 1.15 for the car.
Please advise if the price is reasonable and what all I need to check/be vary of?

The r-c book will surely mention the colour of the car dude(original)
Do check with the insurance company for claims.
Get the car thouroughly checked by a reliable mechanic.
1.15 is a reasonable price to pay provided the car does not have any major issues.
Do start a thread in the what car section.

A red S10 is something of an oxymoron, its the yellow that makes it stand out in a crowd, but i've read somewhere on the forum that there were a handful of red S10's,(I'm pretty sure there are none though) can someone confirm that?

Btw, you can differentiate the S10 from the 1.6 on these points

1) Numbered plaque on the front left door and boot sill
2) 7 spoke alloys. ( the gtx had telephone dial rims)
3) Side skirting
4) Rear spoiler extends to the sides
5)the paint and signatures( Which wont be there since the car is a repaint)
6) Oval shaped stereo with S10 marking on the cassette cover
7) S10 logo on the seats
8) Rubber S10 badging on the C pillars
9) Different front fenders
10)Red 100 16V badge

11) Short gear ratios
12) red stitching on the steering wheel leather instead of black on GTX

Edit for # 2) Very early S10s (no number but very very few) came with 5 spoke alloys.

Hi All, sorry for being so indecisive......

Now I have 3 S10s to decide between:
1.
66k on the odo and 2nd owner, mumbai
Guy claims that the 1st owner got it repainted red.
price quoted 1.2L

2.
56k on the odo, single owner, chandigarh
Tyres need replacement.
price quoted 1.2L

3.
32k on the odo, single owner, driven 8kms per day avg.
price quoted 1.85L.

Being based out of Bangalore, I am unable to decide which one to check out first :(

Please advise

Check out First or Third Option. As you have option to check the Car or Ask some Bhpian to check the Chandigarh car status.
Yesterday only got chance to drive My friends 1.6 GTX and it was like great experiance the roar the handling is something different within no time car touched 120 in third gear,am also tempted to buy one 1.6 GTX.
It was 2001 Model with orignal colour closed to 60k and hardly any rattle, nice gear shifts very good breaking,it just brough wide smile on my face .

re: Fiat Palio - S10 - The legend lives on ! EDIT - Now Sold

Hi guys can anyone tell me if the following estimates for repair are honest :
  1. clutch master cylinder - 1450 + 300 labour
  2. Both front brake discs - 2950 + 400 labour
  3. Brake pads - 850
  4. Service cost - rs 1200 ( brake check up , wash , interior cleaning, oil change, electrical check up , suspension check up , injector and throttle body inspection)
Please suggest , my car is down with a clutch master cylinder failure and the front right brake pad fell offf after i hit a big bump , has tp drive home for 50 kms with the callipers destroying the disc. Thankfully the callipers are fine.

This is a estimate from a small garage near my place , the guy looked honest.
