Nice review!
Alto is a an easy buy and easier to run!

My Alto was purchased around the same time as that of Furious55 - June'09. My last highway mileage was 22.35 KMPL with 3 on board and 50% usage of A/C.

As I don't use my car regularly I never bother to check the city mileage. But I did test once recently when I had to do ~ 80 KM of city run on a single day. I got ~ 21 KMPL. No A/C usage, 5 on board, light (holiday) traffic and I could mostly drive on 4th / 5th gears.

So during normal city traffic and normal A/C usage, I suppose it will give ~14 KMPL which I suppose is what everyone can expect. Even the test drive report on TBHP mentions 14 KMPL for city and 18 KMPL for highway usage.

Gansan,

14 kmpl is slightly low for the Alto. Many have reported getting ~16.5 -17.5 kmpl in the city with full use of the a/c. Besides that, Furious55 surely has some problem with the Alto. There was a separate thread in the tech section-Alto Fuel Economy Woes, which might give us (Alto owners) an answer.

Regards,
gpa

14kmpl in city with ac in bumper to bumper traffic is Fine as it also depends on the driving habits.

May be you are correct gpa! I am making only a guesstimate! I am knocking off 6 - 7 KMPL from my highway figures as a measure of abundant caution. From what I have gathered from other Alto users, 14 KMPL in urban traffic is the ball park figure and I don't think it is very bad!

To be absolutely sure, I will have to use my car for a full week and then check. Perhaps I will have to add 1 KMPL to the final figure to compensate for evaporation loss as well.

Hi I have an 2004 alto lxi and in the bombay traffic at peak house with only 1,2 & 3rd gears used all the times with ac on and absolutely no highway driving 11.5 to 12 is the average I consistancely get servicing my car regularly at mass.I complained a few times and the said for the traffic i drive in It ok. Point to note my brother in law on his petrol indigo cs on the same route gets 8 to 9 kmpl.:deadhorse

I've noticed the highway mileage figures and was wondering what speeds the cars are being driven at? Am planning to do some serious work on my dad's '04 Alto Lxi.

I drive at 75 - 85 KPH on the highway. I will touch 90 - 100 occassionally, but for very short durations, say, about 15 KM or so in a 300 KM round trip. Just to ensure the car will touch 3 digit speeds if necessary!

:OT
Seems like Maruti has deleted this colour for the refreshed Alto. So no more bright red Altos, which is sad.

Maruti Suzuki alto car available in bright red, superior white, silky silver, pearl silver, blue and black colors

Edit : Funny thing is that the URL mentions Bright Red colour though the actual colour offered is the maroonish Fire brick Red.

Got the rear parcel tray from Mandovi, Yashwanthpur.
Part number 99000M99741
Cost me Rs.1390/-
Also got 2 useless stands for the new Altos.

Mods please delete this..

There's a snap when the milege was at an interesting figure. The horrible MGA graphics on the doors have been removed.

Can you give some details on the fogs? Are they MGA or aftermarket products? How much did they cost you? Did they come with the entire black grill assembly? How did you manage to fit them to the existing bumpers?

It's been a long time since I updated this thread. Well I managed to sort out the mileage issue by taking it to another MASS. Turned out to be improperly adjusted tappets. But by then we are already fed up and had decided to buy an i10. We sold the car in 2011. Around the same time we also sold the Petra. We upgraded from the i10 to a Rapid and then realised the need for a small car again. So we picked up a Celerio (see the Official Test Drive). After upgrading from the Rapid to an X1 we realised that at some times my wife and me both needed the beater car as it was inconvenient to use the X1. I had made up my mind to pick up an 800 (either 2nd Gen carb or the 5S). The plan was to do some Kerala style mods on it (check the tastefully modified cars thread on the various Facebook groups to know what I'm talking about). I couldn't find any decent 800's at the right price so I decided to expand the search to an Alto. Surprisingly I couldn't find anything decent or at the right price. Finally I called up the guy who but our car and convinced him to sell.

I bought this car back a few days ago. This is how it looks now. I'm planning a proper refurbish of it (Kerala Style modded).

Wow, buying your own car back after 7 years is awesome. What is the odometer reading now? She looks to be in decent condition for a 9 year old car & best of luck for the refurbishment. The wheel caps that you have on your Alto looks similar to the wheel caps that the face lifted Zen VXi got (03-06). I have been looking for these wheel caps to fit in my 01 Zen, I don't quite like the design of wheel caps that the current gen Alto gets. Where did you get them fitted? Looking at the photos on the first page of this thread, it seems that the wheel caps were there from the day of delivery.

The car was reasonably well maintained by the guy who bought it. His daughters used it one after the other when they were studying and the last couple of years his wife used it.

The car came with these wheel caps. I'm upgrading to alloys soon so you can have the wheel caps if you want. If you have anyone visiting Goa soon I'll be happy to hand them over.
