Ford really needs to take care of the maintenance costs and higher life of components this time. They went wrong with Escort first, then the Mondeo and they spoil it again with the Ikon.
The Ford A.S.S. is the key to Figo's and Ford's success. No second thoughts on that. An interesting Diesel hatchback shootout:

I wasn't really impressed with the AC (in summer) in our Punto. It just doesn't cool enough. It's a lot better in the evening though.

Then again our verna is like a walk in freezer.

The i20, Punto and Swift, all these cars do not have a AC as strong as Verna and Elantra. The AC in my Punto takes quite some time to cool compared to bigger cars. Most i20 owners on Team-BHP find the AC to be inadequate for our weather, The discussion can be seen Here (Weak Hyundai i20 air-conditioner. EDIT : Test results on pg. 4).

Exactly one year after i reviewed both cars i got a chance to travel in a friend's i20 CRDi. The Interiors feel rich and fit for a car of this price tag, this car has the premium feel in the Interiors which is missing in the Punto. The ride is not as good as Punto but is infinitely better than the bouncy Verna, Overall i liked the Ride quality. NVH levels were very good, definitely better than Punto, Only downer is the vibrations which be felt at idle and low revs. Most of the times this car can be mistaken for a Petrol with the AC on.

Iwould not agree with this.
In face id say that the A/C on my swift cools really well even on hot days.

This is quite a good comparison of i20 vs punto.

Just my 2 cents to the discussion. I was looking at both i20 and punto before deciding on the figo. Will highlight the drawbacks that i felt.

i20- Weak Ac(Didn't like the interior design), Vague steering, Didn't find the ride quality as good, Leg room at a bit of premium, slightly bigger turning radius.Mileage not as good as the MJD from what i hear. Real good pickup and power on the highways.

Punto - AC was not too good but better than i20, turning radius, Leg room not too good, Driving position with leg hitting dashboard. The dynamics and looks of the car had kind of won me over though. The real deal breaker was lack of confidence in FIAT as a company and their seriousness in india. I have had a palio till recently and i have been following FIAT for quite sometime.

From my vantage point both these cars were compromises. I had the budget for either one of them but didn't feel they were worth the money once Figo came on the scene. Figo is also a compromise but you atleast save a couple of lakhs over the i20 and lakh over punto with comparable safety features which was a priority for me since i spend a lot of time in the car commuting. I didn't feel the figo interiors were bland in comparison to the Punto at all. on the contrary i felt it is better.

I never said Swift and Punto have inadequate cooling, i said the AC is not as strong as Verna and Elantra, which take considerably less time to cool.
