I totally agree with you on that Happy wheels.Black is difficult to maintain.Yes
Red will not show th dust. For me there were not many colour choices as it was a previous year model.Of the available colours my wife liked only black,so went for it.I wash my car myself every 2 days or so with mineral water(The one which comes in 25 litre jars) using a hand sprayer i purchased from shell petrol bunk.If my wife comes to know i use mineral water to wash the car she is not gonna be very happy. The water we get is hard water and i do not want to spoil the paint. One wash consumes about 4.5 litres of water!I use a blue non linting microfiber cloth for washing and a 3M cloth for drying.

Great photos!

Since we are in a Blackie's thread, let me share my experience with the Reddie' type.

In my last highway drive and the recent OTR, what I have noticed is that the dirt does not show up on the Red! On the highway run, the kind that I have done many times with my black Alto, I know how it will look at the end of the run. But with the red color, a distant viewing will not show any dirt!

Similarly the OTR, unless you get up-close-and-personal, you will not see the dirt.

Am happy that I need to spend less time cleaning the big guy. Else it would have been daily early-morning wash for an hour!

If my wife comes to know a Safari owner does this, she will ban me from the kitchen! She know for sure that, if given chance, I might try this also! lol:

You can say that again! :)

Hey Freewheelburnin, In case if you get the money back from Imran, you should go for a good alloys.:D. It looks stunning even without alloys but just to make it picture perfect, the beast needs the alloys.

I appreciate the way you are taking care of the black color but to sustain that maintenance schedule in the long run is a herculean task. I say this from my experience of maintaining my previous car which was a black esteem. :Frustrati.

Agree with you kishore....I will be going for good alloys.I have postponed it because i have some financial commitments coming including some kitchen work to keep wifey happy.Yes it is not easy maintaining a black car.I clean it only once in 3 days or so.

Mineral water we buy is not mineral water literally obtained from fresh water source. It is Reverse Osmosis purified water.
One time consumption for cleaning=4.5 litres.
Number of times car will get washed per month=10
Total consumption per month=45 litres
That works out to Rs100 Per month.

If i do not do this car will get covered by stains and to remove them
Double this amount would be necessary <100 litres of hard water
A good polishing/waxing agent to be used weekly etc....

Even the supply water though hard water is purchased for a price.Plus i do not want others in my apartment to share the burden of my car washing .

Freewheelburnin please take your vehicle to an alignment shop before you change to alloys and check the Camber reading. In my Safari Left front wheel camber is 1 deg 12' which is out of normal range of -30' to + 30' .

Even if you are not fitting alloys also get the alignment values checked because if the setting is not correct it will eat up tires in no time.

I actually do not know if the range shown at the alignment shop ( -30' to +30') was correct or not because in their software only one setting for Sumo and Safari was their but 2.2 VTT Safari , 3.0 Dicor , TCIC and Sumo have entirely different suspension and my tire show now special wear despite camber value being out of range.

Safari Camber is fixed and can not be adjusted by Alignment shops. As Camber nut in front is welded and A.S.S will not do anything if you have fitted aftermarket alloys. They say they can align wheels with only OEM Rims.

PS : If you are getting the alignment done post readings on 2.2 VTT problem / solutions thread for reference.

Thanks for the suggestion Amit.Camber angle never went through my mind and was thinking allignment is not necessary as the vehicle does not pull to either side. But now i think i should check alignment A.S.A.P.I know a place near B.D.A complex Indiranagar.Where did you get your alignment done?

Congrats the car looks real beautiful in the pic.The discounts you managed to get was great.Could you Plz. let me know the details one of my friends would like to go for the 2.2 but the problem is that he stays in Kolkata.can the car be registered in Kolkata after buying it from there?

Do let me know if anybody is looking for a Safari 2.2.I think there is one or 2 more cars of mountain green color and silver are for sale. But do check the vehicle with a competent mechanic before taking.

Issues till now:
1)central locking does not unlock the rear right door properly. The movement of lock lever looks weak.Need to fix it during first service.
2)First gear seems harder than remaining gears which are pretty smooth.
3)Rear a/c vent on the floor does not give a strong flow of air.But roof a/c works very well.

No rattles or squeaks yet.

SAI Iyangar it's near to ESI hospital , I would suggest to get it done at another place becuase as I told they have one single setting for Sumo and Safari which I do not belive is correct.

If any Safari owner can post normal range of Camber, caster and Toe it will be great but till now there is no response on that thread.
Only toe is adjustible in Safari at alignment shops. Camber and Caster can be adjusted only by T.A.S.S.

I will try to go to some good tyre shop and get it done! Thanks Amit!!

I would suggest that you buy it from Kolkata as it is too much of a hassle transporting a car from kerala to Kolkata. You will have to drive 2200 Kms and fuel alone would cost you around 5000.I do not know if driving with temporary registration is safe?I.M.H.O not worth the hassles. Please check with dealers there.Besides ex showroom price is lower in Kolkata.
