One more FIAT Punto MJD Emotion Pk

Hi friends,

Please welcome yet another FIAT Punto MJD Emotion Pack into the T-BHP club.

Background

I have been driving a Palio Stile (SLX) 1.1 for the past two years. Got bored driving an underpowered car, although it rocked in all other respects. Hence decided to go in for a second-hand FIAT Adventure. Started the search but dad was strictly against buying a car that was no longer in production and hence zeroed in on either the Linea or the Punto. Liked both, but since I wanted to go in for the top-end version with airbags, Linea was out of budget.

(Non FIAT cars were not even considered)

The two beauties:

TD and booking experience

Since I had been giving my Palio for service at Concorde Motors, Mysore Road, Bangalore, decided to try them for booking the new vehicle. Although the TD was given promptly, the salesman wasn't proactive and wasn't interested in selling at all. Also, absolutely no free accessories were offered. Visited Prerana and they offered mud flaps, floor mats. car God idol and car perfume. Went ahead with the booking by paying 40k and the three week wait started.

Price:
Ex-showroom: Rs. 614,331
Road tax: Rs. 87,849
Handling charges: Rs. 4,750
Extended warranty: Rs. 5,000
Insurance (Bajaj Allianz): Rs. 13,807 (Thanks to fellow BHPian Vinod, Prerana guys were quoting Rs. 17,927)

Delivery

Delivery was on time, no hassles whatever. Did the PDI with the Team-BHP checklist and everything was satisfactory.

Accessories

LLumar Sun-film: Rs. 3,000 (from Prerana)
Autocop Reverse Sensor: Rs. 2,592 (from Prerana)
Tyre upgrade to Michelin Primacy LC 195/60 R15: Buyback of stock tyre - Rs. 2000 Cost of new tyre Rs. 4600 (hence paid Rs. 2600 per tyre). Dealer: Super Tyre Tec, JC Road, Bangalore
DuPont Teflon coating + DuPont underbody rust coating + Car care club membership: Rs. 7,000 (For details of the membership, please refer to their website: THE CAR CARE CLUB) Note that the website is not very accurate though, Teflon coating is not free - although they give a 20% discount for members, also the membership fee is a one time fee for life and not a yearly fee as mentioned in the website.
Stanley classic leather seat covers including steering wheel, door trims, gear lever knob and hand brake: Rs. 29,000

Driving experience

Handling and high speed stability is excellent. Have clocked around 1000 kms so far. Car feels rock solid and is loaded with features (Yet to fully utilise the Blue and Me)

Pros:
Extremely stable in the highway (although I haven't crossed 100kmph, it doesn't feel like you are traveling in three digit speeds)
Excellent ride comfort
Mileage (Have got around 18 kmpl - 20% city and 80% highway with 100% AC on)
Loaded with features

Cons:
Ground clearance seems to be low - the same speed-breakers which the Palio used to clear easily scrap in the Punto
1st and 2nd gear pull the car very slowly - Will adding Petes improve this? Anyway I am going to think of this mod only after the warranty period gets over

Other niggles:
Poor plastics - The rear parcel tray especially seems very flimsy
I think the Prerana guys goofed up the reverse sensor installation. The siren is too loud and the LED lights seem to glow randomly, have lodged a complaint with Autocop

Congrats ajay on acquiring the bold machine.

Nice interiors dude. The color theme looks cool!
The covers are sagging in some areas. Did you not remove OEM seat covers for skin-tight fit?

Thanks! I have clocked around 1000 kms yet. Seat covers cost 29k. I have upgraded the tyres to Michelin Primacy LC as well. For more details, refer to my original post.

Congrats Ajay. Nice color and nice interiors. Punto looks fabulous alongside of Palio, although Palio with that deep gloss blue and alloys holds her own smartly.

Congrats!! Ajay..Very good review with good pics of your red machine. Leather seats looking good with nice tints..Any plans to upgrade the stock music system? Howz the quality of the audio?
None of the other Punto owners had issues with Ground clearance..Does it happen when fully loaded or with only front seats occupied? I think the speed breaker is very bad one.. Happy driving and take care

Thanks! The audio is acceptable. I have no plans of upgrading the audio system. I believe even if I wanted, it could get complicated with the Blue & Me.

Regarding the ground clearance, the scrapping happened when fully loaded. In the Palio, I didn't have to slow down at all on most speed breakers Guess the Punto will take some time getting used to.
