Seen the specifications ... rear brakes are 'leading trailing drum'.
Is it better than disc brakes? or because of cost cutting...

Man! I've seen quite a few Fortuners on-road over the last few days here. I'll say one thing - that vehicle has massive street presence! The only other vehicle before this that had this sort of street presence was the Endy.

And it looks hot on-the-road.

Cost Cutting. They have cut many corners which should not have been a case in this price segment. At least they should have matched Mitsubishi Outlander in interiors (including Music System) and accessories.

A cool 2 lacs above it which is also way overpriced.
Lets put it in this way; if Camry being a CBU, is priced 2.71 lacs over Fortuner, Fortuner being a CKD deserves better interiors and accessories. Anything over 15 Lacs deserves at least an advanced music system if not a RF.

If we were to expect a premium music system from Toyota and other things like rear discs et al, then we could expect them to price it another 2 lacs higher too.

And to address the price of Fortuner as compared to Camry, well yes camry costs just 2.7 lacs more than fortuner .
But you cant seat 7 in a Camry and neither would you take it on bad roads (Now i'm imagining the camry doing off-road ).

5,000 confirmed bookings for the Fortuner. On a related note, the Altis also grows with 750 units sold in August 2009.

Fortuner production being increased to 600 monthly.

very near future perhaps but in about a year after the initial hype has died down and backlog orders have been met, I would think Toyota will have to introduce new variants to keep the 600 a month production line humming.

Finally finally finally..after 5 years of waiting and drooling and complaining and frustration..its here..in the metal (flesh)..and even better ive booked mine!

Somewhere..right now..the wheels have been set in motion, the robots are cranking up, welders are welding, glass is being formed, steel pressed..and out of this symphony of a hundred machines working in tandem..out shall step my very own Silver Metallic Fortuner!

I await thee humbly
my silver steed,
for all my prayers
toyota did heed.

I implore thee now
for a little speed,
as it has been
a while indeed..

A trip to the hills
is the need,
in my shiny silver steed
so i may go
and score some weed..

(no offense meant to any ones sensibilities!)

Similarly I have let the Fortuner pass by, running/mad after things is just not me!
i agree with you..i too feel that making people wait 6 months in this day and age is blasphemy!

i too wanted to register my protest in a similar fashion...but then i saw one drive by...sigh!..

Look at the bright side..it will teach me how to be patient.
