| ![]() Direct Injection with a Pushrod Engine. Well, I must put on record that most M&M dealers [there are 2 well known ones in Chennai] dont know the beauty i'm raving about. Fellow BHPians Ex670C, Vinod_Nookala, Milecruncher and Behram.Dhabhar Sir have been helpful in helping me decide on a Bolero CRDe Storm. Took delivery of the vehicle on 17.08.09 @ 1800 hrs with 80 kms on the Odo. Current reading is 993kms. I've had reasonably good FE of 12.5 and 13kpl and am surprised AND HAPPY. Dealers were trying to sell me the DI Turbo SLX, which according to them is low on maintenance and can be towed if any problems, anybody can repair it sir, etc etc. I belong to a different school of thought - Why should a vehicle break down in the first place? And while on the topic - The Storm has a limp mode that helps one reach the nearest authorised dealer if in case of any issue - The limp mode works without the accelarator and the engine runs at 1000 - 1200 rpm which is a fair speed! Really appreciate that mode! I had TD the SLX as well as the VLX [storm] and got thoroughly confused especially as this was my second car for my factory use which includes a daily travel of 100 - 200 kms over GQ as well as some village grade roads. Finally, decided on the storm as I preferred new tech and did not feel comfortable paying 6 point odd lakhs for a jeep with a tractor engine. Dont get me wrong - Infact the SLX / SLE DI turbo is a wonderful engine that Mahindra have improved upon and is capable of being thrashed by anyone and everyone. The storm has so far been great especially the engine and NVH part of it. What really makes one feel bad about are: 1. A 2 inch gap between the front bumper and mudgaurd that does look odd! 2. A non-foldable rear seat or split rear seat that DOES NOT have inertia reel seatbelts. 3. A Steering Wheel NON Adjustable for rake 4. The Clutch pedal height NOT in line with the BRAKE pedal. 5. No dead footrest as in some vehicles to rest the left foot while not using the clutch. 6. PW switches in the middle of nowhere - or maybe I'm getting used to it. 7. No rear windscreen defogger as well as OE front fog lamps. 8. only 1 remote control unit with the key ![]() 9. No TL tyres in this day and age! 10. A single horn which is so loud that one would go deaf! There are some great positives too! 1. Amazing driving position considering i'm all of five feet and some inches! 2. Great Engine which though a Push rod one does not feel lethargic 3. Ability to maintain 100+ Kph with ease over any road surface 4. Less front dive than the Scorpio and Xylo [Personally my short TD of both of them gave me this impression] 5. People on the road move when they see you !! without you using the single horn! 6. Great FE that seems improving with time and mileage. I wonder with so many positves and negatives, why the dealers across try and NOT sell the storm - Are margins low on them? Ofcourse, having a 4wd on a later date would definitely make one feel on top of the world! I will try and update this thread about my new baby! Thanks for reading!! |

Senior - BHPian ![]() | ![]() Congrats, headers ! Pics and more details please ! I saw a Bolero Storm pass by me in a small side road the other day...what impressed me was the low NVH, and the powerful way vehicle seemed to be moving (the engine sound was too good). Is this with or without A/C ? Last edited by Blue Thunder : 26th August 2009 at 22:00. |
