Sad, that is the only word that i can think of, still hang in there brother. Thank you very much for the advice I just stroke out the i20 Crdi from my list of cars to buy.

That said, I will pass on the word and also ask a friend to cancel his booking. Hyundai ought to be taught a lesson for behaving so juvenile. I cannot even try to imagine how painful it must be to go to the dealer again and again and again! Wishing you luck for your battle, Hope the customer wins!

The Company sucks big time, and this is as per my experience of owning an i20 for 1.6 years.I can only partially blame the dealer as they tried their level best, but there was no real solution provided by the company to the dealer. They cant even sort out a problem after 4 repairs under warranty which still existent in my i20 also in many others too.

I haven't been keen about Hyundai cars, since the steering is always light and vague, but then I am running out of options and considering i10 or i20 in my list.

A couple of weeks back, I took a test drive of i10 and discussed the i20 rattling issue with the sales guy. He said there was some issue in the past, but newer vehicles don't have that.
I haven't still taken a TD of i20, but I have some questions:
1. Does the issue appear after certain km only (e.g. more than 8000 km)?
2. How common is this issue? Is there a poll where people can vote whether they face this issue or not?

Good luck to you wildon. I have already applied your advice based on otehr experiences I have heard of (notably that of skanchan). Skeptical as I am, I have gone ahead and scratched out Hyundai from my to be considered list, though I was waiting for the Verna and seriously considered the i20.
I kept getting weekly sales calls for the i20 crdi after my test drive. My wife had to answer some as I am away for a bit, and she didnt like the constant push for a second test drive etc. I told her about the rattle issue and she only used the two magic words - steering rattle. We havent heard from them since (4 weeks now, I guess!)
There have been other reported issues about the lack of support to dealers from the company (RO included), and this is resulting in lesser repair and more replacement (subsequently more cost for the customer)

Well thats a news for me, I would like to know these newer vehicles are yet to be produce or what .

When a company identify a problem of a particular or multiple parts, and come up with a solution with new or improved parts they never keep up the same part number. The improved and new parts will always have a different part number.

In this case Hyundai never released a new or improved part. They only changed the part to satisfy us. So there is no solution provided to the problems.

In my vehicle this problem cropped up after 10k k.m, and it may depend up on usage and travel surface.

I took this road and it was rattling like anything.
Unknown road to VIBGYOR High School, Bengaluru, Karnataka - Google Maps

It is really sad to know that the issue is still there. And, I agree that Hyundai has become completely indifferent to its customers. I wrote to customer care for AC vent grill (which was (3 out of 4) broken when I got my car exterior and interior cleaned from Master Polisher) asking them how can be part so delicate. What I got a auto reply saying some will call me to discuss the issue, I never got call from anyone. May be because of this attitude the sales of i20 went down from 7000 units in Jan to 5000 units in Feb, still Hyundai is not learning.

Have a look at this:
https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?...en&output=html

As for Hyundai's pathetic little excuse that new cars don't have the issue, you may notice in the above link that some of the them are the new BSIV 2010 models( facelifted one). Some body show this link to those ignorant and incompetent fools in Hyundai.

For me, the rattle was first noticed within one month of date of purchase( October 2009 and less 500 kms on the odometer). The rattle has to this date persisted inspite of several "experiments" on the car. Add to that, due to the workshop's incompetent work, the car is now ruined and the buffoons in Hyundai never bothered answering to my complaints.

^Considering all this, I have dropped the idea of a TD of i20 at the moment. In case I do take a TD in future, I will surely share this with the dealer here for his comments.

Re: Feels like i'm 20 now - Hyundai i20 Asta 1.2

What can I say?
After reading skanchan thread I have already advised two of my friends not to buy i20. That is the only thing I can do. 2 may be a small number. But readership of team-bhp is not.

Wildon, sad that it happened. You have helped so many people (including me) helping them to decode the VIN and avoid getting fleeced by dealers. Man this world is unfair.

Re: Feels like i'm 20 now - Hyundai i20 Asta 1.2

Wildon, your thread has been one of the inspirations for me to buy an i20. Its been more than a month now, with 650km on the odo. I am yet to face any rattles on my car. Its a Dec'10 make.

Also, I checked with couple of other people I know, who had the vehicle for more than a year now and they do not seem to have any rattling problems.

I am just wondering if this is the case for just a batch (or in some random cars). If the problem had been so much notorious and EVERY i20 owner has been facing it, I am sure there would have been a fix by now.

I am not supporting Hyundai here. As you rightly pointed out, its just like yelling at a big rock with them. No response what so ever. Hopeless to say the least.

I sincerely hope this is one of a case and Hyundai realizes that its indeed a problem with the vehicle and provide a permanent solution to you.

We want your to come back soon. All the best. Keep this wonderful thread alive.

I tried to make a recording of that sound but that rattle sound simply wouldn't register in the recording. I am quoting from my thread as below about the visit of Hyundai people to my residence in September last year.

Quote:
Yesterday evening(September 30), people from Hyundai came down to my residence. The gentlemen included the Area Manager, Works Manager and three gentlemen(Steering Systems specialists) from Delhi, who said that they had specially come down from Delhi to see the car, as my car was giving the company the most complaints.

We took the car out on a TD around the town. These included some rough patches where I could clearly hear the rattle. They had a camera and a mic to capture the steering rattle sound. I was driving and whenever the car went over a rough patch of road, I could hear the rattle coming from the steering column area. The sound that I heard was pointed out them, but the person who was sitting next to me could not hear it initially. I was told mockingly where is the sound?
The entire post is here : http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/long-t...ml#post2091054

Even these people came with a mic and a camera to record that sound, but I am sure it didn't register there as well. At times, the sound can only be heard by the driver and in some cases the front passenger as well. That rattle sound gets on my nerve and that rattle is accompanied by a feeling of looseness in the steering wheel/column as if the steering wheel is about to pop out.

While these people were initially reluctant to accept the presence of rattle initially, it was only after their person drove the car that they acknowledged the presence of the rattle. But they were quick to say that the rattle was from the dashboard and they were giving all sorts of explanations for the rattle...telescopic steering, road conditions and what not, none of which sounded convincing enough. It was the same rattle sound for which these people had changed the steering rack twice, tie rod assembly once and the steering column once. Now the rattle is probably at the loudest and there is no answer from Hyundai, they began ignoring me and were referring to me(privately) as a "paagal" and "jhik jhik wala". These losers from Hyundai can never be of help to anyone nor are they fit to called "engineers".

They are nice and sturdy + curved according to the shape of the door jamb!

Easy to maintain as they're plastic and you just need a quality trim dressing to maintain it! ( I found that the metal ones had the tendency to get scratched easily! + as they're sandblasted, its difficult to polish them!)

--------

Also got a Kahtec smart stop module installed for the high mount stop lamp and now it blinks whenever I brake!

Therefore alerting the ppl coming behind to slow down!(basically to catch their attention better!)
