srisri, first of all May'09 is a fairly old date for SXI-Premium.
Also I find it doubtful that Ford will provide 2 types of alloys factory-fitted.
Looks like you have to take it serious as to why the dealer change alloys? It's not a small thing to change alloys.

My guess is that modi-ford converted SXI to premium (just added in some random alloys & chrome grill).

Yep!! agree with neo! maybe they had the old SXI in stock (from a cancellation), gave it a facelift with the chrome front grill and threw in some random alloys and sold it to you as new a premium version.

i'd suggest you get to the bottom of this and take mody to task.

EDIT: kind of explains why Mody probably gave you all those freebies upfront! INMO, the price difference btw the old sxi and the new premium is approx 20k, so if you're happy with the deal, i think you are okay! but ethically Mody should'nt be doing this!

@ ramki,

if my memory serves me right (this was almost 2 months back), the dealer had informed me that there is hardly any difference in the price of the old Sxi and Sxi premium (was some Rs.4-5K). When i asked him why, he said that they want to beat the competition (read Linea and ANHC) and hence cant afford to increase the price. Of course, this was for Petrol. Not sure abt Deisel though

@ SriSri,

get tought with your dealer and aks him how did they manufacture the Sxi premium in May09, when the model was launched in Jul09 - see what explanation he offers.

All the best !!

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I expressed the same concerns to the dealer. The answer I got was They got the delivery from ford india on 16th July. He also told me that none of the SXI premium vehicles come pre-fitted to the showrooms. These guys only do the assembly and modifications of the Premium enhancements. Like the chrome Grill and the other outer enhancements. They are saying that even though the SXI Premium is released at the end of july, the vehicle might be manufactured before that itself as the it is just the face lift to the version.

They told me that I can even write to Ford if I have any doubt on this to be the old one. They said that they also do this old vehicle thing only after discussing with the customer. Somehow I felt bad dragging this discussion further with them as they started feeling bad as if I am treating them like they did some cheating.

I have checked the SXI Premium vehicles in the showroom. Except the alloy wheels everything looked same. I just wanted to leave it here as it didn't make much difference to me.

srisri,
Assuming what mody ford saying is true ... they have still done an unethical thing by pawning off some older-stock alloys on you.
Just take the new alloys man, since they already offered it.

In any case, shoot an email to ford-india with pics for clarification. (maybe you need not mention dealer's name).

hi SriSri,

the interior look almost the same as the new Sxi premium (if my memory serves me right). probably, the dealer is right. The car is manufactured, and then premium chrome accessories are added.

Dont bother too much abt it now. Just enjoy the car.

BTW, nice pics. I personally feel the interiors make the car feel a class above. The only painpoint could be maintaining it...

Thanks

Definitley yours is not the premium one.IMK,the changes comes as factory fiitted.Anyhow i'll check it again.
But there's no difference in Leathers and any interior stuffs.
Only the Front Grill,Alloys and OVRM cowl has got facelifted in premium Version.

IMO,Just go and change the Alloys to newer one. It's very nice and eye catching than the current one you have it in your car.

Rest everything is good and you too get very good offers.

Enjoy and Drive Safe

Thanks for the comments.

Did anyone who booked SXI Premium thought of any enhancements to the built in Audio that comes with this.

Things that I observed:

1. It doesn't have USB support.
2. It is not displaying the MP3 tags/file names. It is showing like F1 & T1 for folder and tracks info. Not sure if these can be configured.
3. It only supports CD media. No DVD support where you can dump in some more MP3s(Not sure if any player is supporting this)

Probably I need to ask the dealer when I go to the showroom next time if there is any option for getting the USB port.

Did anyone gave some thought on these.

USB for Stock HU

SriSri,
congrats on the great car, the leather seats and wood finish add to the cars beauty.
The Stock Audio unit is quite good. Rightly said the USB option is missing.
For that i picked up a FM transmitter with USB support.
It plugs into the 12V jack.
Also I tested the Aux port using a Ipod Nano and got fantastic sound quality.
below is a pic of the FM transmitter

Hey Yajaman,

infact i was going to ask u abt the FM transmitter, since even i miss (will miss) the USB slot. Where did you get this one from, and for how much?

Does the transmitter display the song names (stored in USB). Is navigating through the songs on USB easy

Thanks !!

Ashish,
The device cost roughly rs 250 to 350 on ebay.co.in.
The name of the song is displayed on the device but it quite small and only useful when the car is in parked . To select the song i just use the remote to go the next song. I still need to figure out moving between folders.

Yajaman nice snap, I am also using a FM transmitter but I encounter a lot of static in traffic signals. Infact I use an itrip which is rated as one of the best transmitters for an ipod. Do you also experience this issue....
