The Vitara is great as is. I do not want to take chances with it unless I am sure of the outcome.

Cheers

The Vitara looks neat. Any idea about the tyre specs? Looks too skinny IMHO.

And why dont you opt for 90/100 instead of Hellas?

Well let's see how it goes with you !! It would be nice if he could do a remapped ECU for me, but I am skeptical after my experience with Race Dynamics. Sudev's suggestion on the ECU replacement from Singapore seems like an option. But I need to know as to how good or bad it works out to be, in terms of sheer difference in performance & fuel efficiency.

Do check with Zakie about the 2008 Vitara, if you're in touch with him.

Thanks

The OE tyre size is 225/70/16. I have been considering 255/65's to make the wheel well look better filled. I have seen someone use this size & he has had no problem with handling, scraping of well or any thing else.

As for the bulb upgrade, It is on the agenda. The projectors have a single filament halogen, so I just need to change that for now.

Cheers

Wonder if this is unique to my Vitara or generic. When the brakes are applied in an emergency stop situation, the wheels lock up & the vehicle skids a bit, is this normal ??

Another thing I find is that when one is applying brakes to stop the vehicle at relatively slow speeds, the brakes make a sound like that of a Bus I find it a tad weird & hilarious at the same time.

What could be the cause ? The brake pads have enough left on them, the discs are totally even (no lines or deformities, the vehicle has near 20K on the odo it is a 2008 model...any pointers ??

Thanks

Neither is normal. There is a problem with your brakes.

Youve brobably got dirt grit or both in the brake linings.I suggest you take them out clean them and put them back, pretty simple, Welcome to the Vitara family

Is the sound only there when you do easy/slow stops? Try to use light hand brake to see if the sound is only coming from back.
Then it is what Niaz is suggesting. Open the rear drums and get them cleaned up. With off road use is dirt+water gets in to the drum this is likely.

Ya the problem happens at slow speeds only, like when you are really slow for crossing a bad speed breaker.

Thanks for the suggestions, will try the hand brake thing, I suspected the rear brakes but the mechanic who serviced the vehicle 600 kms back, said the brakes are perfect !!

Guess I will have them take a re-look.

Thanks all !

Sorry but doesn't the Vitara come with rear discs? Or are you talking about something else when you say drums?

Thanks for that !! As for the killing, I wonder. That is pretty much what it costs for a "low mileage", well looked after car. It has constantly been improving since I bought it !
