Hi Akhilesh,

Very nice TD report. Thank you for the pictures indicating the improvements. Like many others here, I also feel TATA should have got all this right when they launched the Grande the first time around. With all beige interiors in front, why did TATA give the back door an all black treatment?

The MKII badge is . It is like a stenographer typing a letter with different fonts.

Safari still has the same 2.2 L DiCOR!!! The same engine is detuned for the Grande.

Nice initial review
disappointed with the dash board/console, the Xenon ones looks much better than the Grande console.

Same buyer may also not like the looks of the "near future launch", what then??
They will then offer airbags and ABS on MK-IV. Simple

Current generation of Safari has an upgraded version on 2.2L Dicor which is promptly titled 2.2L DiCOR VTT.

The exactly same engine in Grande was in service in Safari for a brief period before VTT came in.

Enjoy the beast. Its really refreshing to see a new GRANDE instead of a SAFARI or a SCORPIO.

Looks really nice..!!
There are other new colours introduced for MKII. Here is a complete list of MKII Colours :

1. Arctic White
2. Arctic Silver
3. Quartz Black
4. Mineral Red
5. Walnut Gold (one in pics!)
6. Castle Grey
7. Platinum Beige

Surprisingly, No Sunshine Orange this time around. Thank God !

@Mods: Sorry for consecutive post. Can't seem to to merge them now.

2.2 Dicor is 2.2 Dicor VTT; the difference is just the sticker.

Great review. Very crisp. Post the Vista launch, TATA seems to be making an honest effort to spruce up its image by providing better quality on at least its all new line up. With their VFM and now strides in quality improvements, i hope they do well.

I thought the difference was more on the lines of as seen in Fiat Linea (1.3 VGT) and Fiat Punto (1.3 FGT). Both the cars share the same engine but very different dynamics and power ratios.

Similarly, the original Safari 2.2L had 143bhp power output as compared to 140bhp on VTT engine. On the other hand, VTT engine returns better fuel efficiency in comparison and has more refined acceleration.

Safari came in 2.2L Dicor avatar for a very brief period between September 2007 and December 2007 / January 2008. VTT began retailing in January 2008.

May be target audience (read Taxi Operators) dont care about Safety. The price is the main factor there. The upcoming model where ABS is standard is meant for private owners/families and supposed to compete against Xylo etc.

Sorry to say, but it is still a half hearted attempt. the car still looks very cartoonish, especially from the front 3 quarters, and the chrome looks pretty tacky, and the dashboard design screams 1908s right all over.2.2 Dicor, no matter how good it may be, it is still very noisy in the sumo grande.
MK2 or MK3 whatever, the car has to give way to its successor-the indicruz.

Sid, with all due respect to your opinions I would like to say that if Bolero with 18th century dash, crude power plant and much more cartoonish looks can sell in thousands, Xylo with its ugly looks and proportions can sell then any thing else can, its a matter of setting your 7 Ps right
