Thread bookmarked and waiting for the saga of the i20 to unfold.:)
Mubeen I m loving the prose and vocab you have used in the review. I just love the flow. It's too good. Keep it coming. Awaiting eagerly. It deserves 5 star rating.

Congrats on your i20 Mubeen. We deserve a few pics of your beauty!
Also, try to calculate gas mileage by the auto cut to auto cut procedure - thats more accurate.
I too eyed the i20 but wanted an A/T, and i20 1.4 A/T was way above my budget - so settled for i10 A/T. |
Pics coming up shortly. Will probably do an auto cut procedure when I take the wheels for an out of town ride. Itching to get this thing on the highway. Top speed i have done is only 90 and that too for a few seconds only. And its been close to 4 months since i've picked up this car. Must make haste.
You are right about the 1.4. It is pricey. If only the government would stick to size of car rather then engine capacity as qualifying factor for excise benefits!!

Vish,
Don't think too much on ground clearance. :D
If you want comfortable seating for three,go for i20. |
Yeah Vish. +1 to that. The i20 is one serious joy machine!!

TATA Guys - are you reading this... A real feed back from a real owner. FIAT what i can say, you need to work hard to get rid of this image created by both of you.
That went like a bullet train, you indeed holding that record for the fastest booking/delivery.
What was in your mind at that time. Again TATA ghosts are hunting you by wearing the Hyundai dress :D
Congrats ! are we missing something here The Picturesplease: |
Hi Wildon,
Yep you said it. TATA after sales service was disappointing at best, and so was the car. Although the punto as a car did not have the negative press that a TATA car would have, the fact that the punto would head into a TATA after sales service center for servicing certainly weighed in as a MAJOR negative whilst shortlisting cars to buy.
In the matter of quick booking and delivery. Yeah that was fast. It certainly is surprising when things move real quick and easy the way it did. Guess "if the dream is big enough the facts don't count" or "chance favors the prepared mind"!! Don't know which one would be more apt here.
As for the initial poor response by HMP's service station, i'll let it pass. Things were sorted out in the end and was done pretty professionally. Guess everyone has their bad hair day and me my bad car day. Life does tend to even these things out.

Thanks for the feedback Sameer. I must say you are being too generous in your praise of my review.
Gosh i'm feeling weighed down by your expectations already! Certainly hope I continue to keep upto and/ or exceed the benchmarks set here
Now for some pics
Exterior pics first. All taken at home and all taken this morning!!
I had to learn how to use the camera first :D Have never really been a shutterbug nor had any sort of inclination towards hobby photography either. So here goes!!
Hmmm.... The pics in the post preview have not turned out in the order I uploaded them and the car is dirty as hell. Will rectify the dirty part soon. The i20 has a Sunday appointment with the cleaners and boy are they good. I'll review that a little later.
Guess you guys can take these to be the before cleaners arrived pictures. I'll put up more exterior pictures after the Sunday morning wash as a testament to the quality of the work done by the cleaners.

Yes Reddy,
I will have to compromise on either the looks/style of i20 or the VFM features of Ritz :Frustrati
I will keep you all updated. Thanks.
Regards,
Vish
GM Mubeen,
Keep it coming. Your ownership review is coming up really well with some +/- ves of Hyundai clap:
Are you still on OEM tyres? If Yes, is it Apollo Acceleres? Expecting more pics of interiors too :D
Regards,
Vish

Yep Vish, those tyres are Apollo Acceleres. While on the topic of tyres, the i20 has a massive wheel arch and the tyres look puny in there. There is one big gap showing.
The tyres themselves are OK. Save for one puncture there have been no other incidents in this area. Boy are tubeless tyres expensive to fix. This guy at the tyre repair charged me like 250 rupees to fix the leak in the tyre!!
:Shockked:
Extra's
Up until now i have strongly resisted the urge to upsize tyres, fix alloys and sunfilm and upgrade the ICE. So this next part of the post is not going to be very exciting or gripping. But since i'm posting the review might as well let it be as comprehensive as it can
As of now the extra's department can only speak of 3m under body rubber coating and door panels, bonnet and boot panels anti rust treatment. I got this done at 3m authorized dealers in Teynampet. The service was quick and efficient. The job set me back by 4500/-. The treatment comes with a 5 year warranty.
What prompted me to go in for this was my previous not so happy experience with the Hyundai Santro. By the end of my 5 year ownership with that car, the door panels had started rusting... And how!!!
Apart from the 3m treatment i got from HMP as part of the "deal" :Frustrati ("deal" here being an oxymoron) floor mats, boot mat and mud guards. In view of the above deal I must mention that the icing on the cake was a Rs. 1000/- gift voucher which i can use to redeem at HMP against accessories purchased or service availed.
The flip side of the gift voucher is this: The gift voucher has a validity of 3 months ONLY. HMP has no great accessories to speak of save for floor mats, only 1 model of a car security system which did get my fancy and oh so boring seat covers!! Yep, HMP does not stock fog lamps, alloys, multiple option car security systems, reverse sensors, even an option for the sorry excuse of a horn that they have installed in the car!!!
Some arm twisting later, the voucher has been extended upto Mar 10 end. With my second service and oil change coming up i'm looking to redeem the voucher then.
Good Pix of he i20 Mubeen. Mind putting up some interior pics ;-)
Interior pics
3897 km on odo as of this morning and 3934 as of this evening! Digital trip meter, tachometer, door ajar warning lamp all a plus from the indigo i used to drive earlier. Nice bits that ought to be in any car.
The flash has partially obscured the time in the MID... 0646 hours!! Talk about dedication to getting pics for review. Guess i'm addicted to BHP.
The removable ashtray. What would car manufacturers do if smoking in cars is banned too?
I guess this would be the politically correct use for the ashtray then! :p
Door pockets on the i20. Super slim. Good enough to store my motorazr. Cant think of anything else that would fit in there!
aux ports and usb ports are a god send! Down here in Chennai there is no fm channel that plays hindi music and I dont listen to any other. With 30+ km of everyday driving the ipod is great time-pass.

Congrats Mubeen and a Wonderful review. Please let me know if your steering problem is fully solved.
I had a gear box issue in my i10 3 months back. It took 1 hour for me to convince the service advisor at HMP that there is indeed a problem and a yawning 3 days for them to fix it. :deadhorse
congrats mubeen & welcome to hightwenty club!
I too own dark grey Asta model about 10months old & last month it crossed 8888 reading and now it is 10070kms.
I have really enjoyed :)every km ride on it (single driver). Its a wonderful car. only -ve aspect is ground clearence under 3/4 or full load.
Some pictures of my beauty! The last snap is at the time of delivery(15/03/2009)

Hey para_7k glad you liked the review. The rattling from the steering column has been taken care of. The service guys replaced the rubber bush with a urethane bush in the steering column and that took care of things. However I still do tend to hear some muffled knocking sound coming while driving over extremely rough and uneven roads. I guess I can live with that.
You are right about the service advisors at HMP. They certainly need an attitude overhaul. At least 2 of them that I know of. Their first and immediate reaction to any problem is to say "Drive the car a little longer and the problem will go away!" :Shockked:
At times you certainly need to throw a tantrum to get your way around, even for what truly deserve. I guess that's par for course in todays world!
