Finally !!! Got My Mazda Miata MX-5

Hey Guys, Finally After A Long Search, Layed My Hands On A 1994 Mazda Miata Mx5 Roadster. The Car Is Not In The Best Of Its Health But I Was Prepared To Spend On It.
With A Heavy Heart I Had To Let Go Of My Bmw E36 To Make Space For This Beauty In My Garage. This One Is Definately For Keeps.

Its Repainted In Dark Royal Blue ( I Dont Like The Colour Personally ) And The Interiors Are Stock. Its The Base Model Without Powersteering And Power Windows.

The Only Problem In The Car Is The Air Mass Sensor Which Is Defective Because Of Which The Car Missfires Sometimes And Also Acts Stupid While Starting Up When Cold.

Like My E36, I Plan To Restore The Whole Car And Need Inputs From You. The Guy Who Will Do It For Me Will Be The Same One Who Worked On My E36 - Arush ( Autopsyche )

I Am Planing To Paint It White With Red Colour Leather Interiors.

For Wheels And Tires, I Wont Be Going In For 17" Or 18" Allys At All. My E36 Looked Great But The Ride Quality Was Bad Inspite Of Geting A Brand New Suspension Setup.

So Im Going In For Simple 15" Alloys With Yokohama S-drive 205/50/r15

Im Also Changing The Soft Top To A New Black Soft Top Ad This One Had Faded.

Attaching Some Pics For Your Coments.

Just To Add, I Have Already Handed Over The Keys To Arush And He Starts To Strip My Ride On Monday. Should Take 2 Months For The Whole Job To Be Done.

If Anyone Can Help Me Source An Air Mass Sensor And A Hard Top, Would Be Great. Cheers !!!

Nice pick !! IIRC V-16 had a Miata for a while, or maybe even has it. You could look there for pointers if you need any.

you might have got it in a real steal price, i would personally never have replaced a beemer with this one.

Parts of this is very rare. By the look of it , i think you have the first generation model.

Congrats Varun.
Do you mind sharing the cost with us, and how muchthe estimated cost of restoration is? Are you sourcing parts from outside the country?

thanks a lot for the comments guys. yest i got the car from choksi and every document is in place. i was geting a white colour one in delhi at ayyar automobiles for 7 lacs but when i was driving towards his pump to give the token, he sold it to some one for 6.75.

i got this one from mumbai for some grands less as it doesnot have a hard top. miatas are extremely rare and its not in the league of toyota seras which are available for a couple of lacs. im sure all experst out here are definately aware that this ride is a classic now and thats one of the reason why the good resale value, apart from being a rare buy.

about the restoration cost, i would be spending roughly about 3 lacs as all the marts have been ordered from miatamanis.com in states and my freight charges alone are next to 800 usd. its expensive but for me its totally worth it as i plan to keep this ride with me for the rest of my life. i was crazy after it since i was 10 years old and 15 years later i got the oppertunity to buy it.

following things are on the list of to dos at the moment.

1.metallic bright white exterior paint
2.red leather interior with black suede inserts ( like my e36 )
3. 15 alloys with YOKOHAMA S-DRIVES 205/5-/R15 ( already purchased )
4. performance clutch + pressure plate kit ( ordered )
5. new break pads + rotors + discs ( ordered )
6. suspension overhauling
7 new air mass sensor
8 new oxygen sensor
9. new dual free flow exhaust ( already done yesterday and sounds fabulous )
10. new door morrors
11. new black soft top
12. new back lights ( cristal - already purchased )
13. all new filters ( oil + fuel + air ) already replaced
14. new chrome trim kit for ac wents
15. OMP 10" diameter sports sreering wheel with carbon fibre finished hub
16. MOMO gear knob in aluminium finish
17. short shifter performance kit
18. blaupunkt losangeles cd receiver
19 blaupunkt 6 cd indash player
20 JBL GTO back oval speakers
21 BULL audio front component speakers
22. KICKER 4-ch amplifier
23. ID-MAX sub 10"
24. all new original emblems of mazda miata ( got them from bangkok )

This is my plan as of now. Really appretiate your comments and would definately update you all regularly with the developments and pics. I am a bit confused on the exterior colour whether i should go for white, silver or red. with white or silver i would go with red leather and with red exterior i would go for tan interior. Please advise. CHEERS !!!

Congrats on the new buy varun, looking forward to more updates on this project. Any plans to install power steering? coz with the 205's, low speed driving will be a pain.

Varun, you already have fine taste with respect to colour. Anyways, my input? - Metallic silver with black & white leather interiors. By the way, who will be doing the leather work?
