re: Yet another Skoda Laura 1.8 TSI on Team-BHP. EDIT: Now sold!

28000km update
Nothing much to write about.

With the sunfilm menace all over the place, currently the OEM rear sun blind along with the 3MCR70 front film offers some relief. I know that even this isnt allowed as per the new law but I will try my luck.

Oh! I wanted a rubber floor mat for the boot as I keep carrying a heck lot of stuff in the boot and cleaning the carpet was a chore. The OEM rubber mat serves the purpose pretty well. Notice the Octavia branding (Laura is the Octavia II everywhere except India)

A question for all the Laura owners. The rough road package which all Indian skoda's get by default includes:
  • Engine skid plate,
  • Cable protection,
  • Brake line protection,
  • Fuel line protection,
  • Additional plastic protective parts
But I have found that the GC in a car with RR package is 164mm (India spec) while that in a car without it is 140mm(UK spec). Does the Indian Laura get a different set of springs? Anybody can throw some light on it?

re: Yet another Skoda Laura 1.8 TSI on Team-BHP. EDIT: Now sold!

Got the car back from a wash which was long overdue.

Yet another Skoda Laura 1.8 TSI on Team-BHP. EDIT: Now sold!-img_0841.jpg

Today I experienced a weird wind noise (a sort of loud blowing sound) coming from the driver side A pillar/ORVM
I called up Peter (Pete's) and he said its a common issue with FL Laura's which appears when the crosswinds hit the ORVM at a particular angle. The noise comes at around 120km/h and is impossible to predict when its gonna appear. I have been driving this car for over 28k kms and this is the first time I experienced it.
A quick check on the briskoda.net site yielded further details of the issue.

Facelift Octavia Vrs Wind Noise At Speed - BRISKODA.net - The Skoda Forum and Community

Has anybody else experienced this?

Oh yeah I have experienced this! Have experienced it at highway speeds and funnily enough this 'wind noise' is not consistently present. Sort of comes and goes. Something to do with air flow I guess, depending on factors like speed, temp, air quality etc...

Car is looking smashing btw .

Thanks.
Atleast its nothing serious to get worried about

Anyway after the performance upgrade, the car seems a tad under tyred and squeals around corners if pushed. I am planning 225/45 R17 Mich PS3..so I will have to get rid of the OEM VRS alloys. Any takers?

Besides let me know which of these alloys do you guys fancy. I personally am a sucker for clean 5 spoke deisgns hence love the one marked. Let me know your opinion.

IMHO, LV5 looks better. are these light weight forged alloys? It's better to buy forged alloys than cast alloys.

Well its a really fancy alloy but I feel its kinda too boy racer type. It sure looks good on the picture but thats because its red car which is lowered and has a body kit on it.

As for me its a choice between the 5 spoke one and the 10 spoke anthracite matte LV5.

IMO then you should go for the 5 spoke alloy as you already have 10 spoke design installed and the car would look similar just a different colour... well best of luck hope you upgrade soon and post the pics!!! i am dying to upgrade alloys on mine...

My vote goes for LV5.

Are these alloys available in the right PCD for the Laura?

Also are you also going to lower the ride height of your car?

How is the B6 suspension working out for you? Is there a perceptible difference while cornering etc.. Sometimes I wish the suspension was a bit stiffer, esp when one is corner carving mood. But I love the comfort offered by the suspension too. It is just right for its intended use.

THe upgrades you've done to your car are something that I will look to do maybe a couple of years down the line. Presently I'm enjoying the car in its stock form. Once I'm bored with it, I'll head down to Cohin.

Thanks Santosh

The alloys are Borbet ones and exact pcd for laura. Even I fancy the LV5 but its not in stock. There are a few BBS, OZ racing ones which I ll check out before the final thing
The bilstein B6 are amazing..a little bit stiffer but the improvement over stock is enormous
As for lowering the ride, I ll try it out with the HR sport springs and if I like it, I ll stick with it. Good thing is that, the shocks are tad stiffer and I can get away with lowering the car a little.

List `em on the Team-BHP Classifieds. I'm sure you'll find a taker if the price is right :

A lot of people are, however, the 5-spokes generally come with a certain character - and i'm not sure that character matches the Laura.

Skoda cars are especially hard to pick wheels for -- they need to be a bit classy and chunky, which is sometimes hard to find. The Octavia was a nightmare! Almost all wheels looked too puny on it.

I definitely prefer the LV5. I think they go better with the car.

No chance of getting your hand on these ? >

Those I'm pretty sure are 18s.

Robimahanta - Get the rims on the top left, they looks hot and suit the car. I think a pete's vRS already has them. Have also replied with my choices on the other thread you made.
