POLO the mint with no hole

This is an exciting time to look for a car in the Indian hatch market, customers are getting spoilt for choice.

I have been planning to change wife’s Alto for sometime. Waited for AutoExpo 10 to see the models on offer. We had a budget of 5 to 6 lakh.

When I bought Innova in 2006, there was no research, no comparisons or even test drives, We just wanted an INNOVA!. But this time things were different.

After spending long hours in TBHP I narrowed down the options to four

1. Ritz VXi

2. I20 Magna

3. Punto 1.4

I liked the looks of Punto, but wife liked i20, then Ritz has better overall package with good engine, mileage and space.

I wanted to see what Toyota and VW has to offer in the small hatch segment.

We were convinced with POLO's looks and was waiting for GTO's test drive on TBHP. After the green light from GTO and other reviews we waited for VW to announce the price, expecting around 6lakh OTR. When we saw the 4.34L for Trendline there was no confusion. VW under 5lakh is a serious bargain and that too with 50% German parts!

Booked the car on the same day VW announced price and was promised a late march delivery. Buying experience was smooth and EVM Volkswagen has done a good job. They did insist on a company backed insurance scheme, (21K for a 4.34 L car) and I thought it will be fine for the first year.

They also promoted a Package of accessories worth 40K

Accessories

1. Stanley Seat overs 26K
2. 3M shades 2.5K
3. Parking sensor 2.75K
4. Body colouring handle/mirror 4K
5. Remote lock 3.5K
6 Parcel tray 1K
7. Audio JVC 6.5K
8. Speakers JBL 2.9K
9 Floor mats .6K

Thanks for the support from TBHP for making the decision and espeially the reviews from GTO.

Here are some snaps

The car looks smashing in Red, IMO red is the best color for polo, it just looks grt.
The seat covers are also beautiful , specially with those red lines .
Njoy.

More pictures

Things I liked -
Most of the points regarding POLO has been discussed in the forum already.
1. Excellent ride and handling
2. Suspension is superb, feels smooth on Kerala potholes
3. Gear shift - slices like butter
4. Storage - 4 bottles holders on front, 1 litre bottle holders are blessings in this heat.
5. 15K service intervals - one in a year is fine to travel 25KM for service
6. Looks, this is ageless for me.
7. Brakes - feels confident
8. Steering size and feel is just correct for me.

For me there is no better car in the market at this price point but,

Things that could be improved

1. Engine noise - It does feel like a diesel car while stationary and windows open. But while on cruise, she is very quiet.

2. Back seat space is just average / i20 is miles ahead.

3. Absence of Electronic mirror adjustment, ACC in Highline is insane

@hpzone. Congrats. What a beauty..! Nice upholstery too! Love that wrinkled look. Did you get floor mats and accesories from VW itself?

Congrats mate. The Red polo does look very good. I have started spotting the red ones in Bangalore quite often now.

Did you actually consider looking at the highline instead of the Trendline?

Congrats, the car looks sexy..

Is there anyway you can get other colours in trendline by
paying extra like with UVA?
Would love to own a pearl grey Polo..
