Thanks to team bhp for fantastic reviews, details and nitty gritties that escorted me thro the maze of info to pure user reviews, it is nirvana for the uninitiated. Recently was breaking my head on what car to buy and you guys are THE kings for info & research.
Finally when the head of rival respected car company appreciated the i20, was when it could not be ignored, forget the reasons against.
One small request - Pl do keep safety as NUMERO UNO priority, as many times, we compromise with in for many reasons. All others MUST take 2nd place, and do spread the word on ABS, EBD, and airbags, use the EuroNCAP tests for info -
Hyundai i20 | Euro NCAP - For safer cars crash test safety rating. Not forgetting the basic seatbelt UP!
There have been superb reviews, but as they say seeing is beleviing.
Gentlemen, (& Ladies if any), there are 2 classes of people in this auto world - those who have driven the i20 CRDI on the highway and those who did not.
A Midsized, classy, quiet, gentle giant, with a torque that can say bye to most cars, except very few.
I feel there is need to present A brief review of the i20 CRDI Asta(O) with sunroof, as this is the 4th most safest car in the world (ESP version not available in India). -

Capable highway cruiser, quietly faster than a 5 series Beemer, a Q5, a Laura, a Benz, and leaving them behind forget those fast homely MPVs, SUVs(had a Safari) or twichy sedans. Skill of thise drivers is a question mark, as it was controlled agression (family in car). Safety first so had to let a Desire PETROL thro as he was taking too many risks.
4 disc brakes with ABS and EBD ensure you stop just in time when those truckers know you are coming and move into your lane at half your speed in most parts of NH45(speed cams coming - car radars not far behind?). The ABS just gently squeaks three or four times, and you are down from 3 to 1 digit speeds.
The case is further enhanced by the tireless drives, variable motor assisted power steering that hardens with speed, lower cost diesel, Auto A/c, Steering mounted audio controls, small enough for ncity use, and the sunroof is the icing on the cake. There are too many features.
The Torque ensures a jerk free acceleration, just a steady boost from 40s to triple digits, and enhances the classy feel without a fuss or strain.
Quite simply - got it all.
What can be improved
ride height - the new i20s will have it - but managed with a slightly taller tyre but perfect speed match - checked with a Garmin GPS.
Suspension sounds - only on very hard jounce and rebound.
Steering rack clatter - known issue, one case of grease change helped someone on this forum.
Locking sound - dont know if locked from a distance - a lowered window was left many times open!
Wiper blades leave wet lines.
A pillar is a blind spot - CMVR certified sunfilm did not help - inaugurated the car with a damage from an MPV that opened the REAR door in the middle of the road. Mirror just reassembled thanks to Hyundai countrywide service Rs 200 only, dent TB fixed.
Hyundai Service - Best in India, but can improve still.
Horns - got to fix a Hella pair - found a place just inside the front grille with a seperate wiring to avoid the radio blip mentioned in this forum.
65W head lamps - if 90W is allowed(refer Hindu of the 10th June 2010), the plastic colour change is a worry.
Reversing sensors without display inadequate to know distance, beep rate change is NG - no good.
Stock tyres - slightly noisy and very high body roll.
But a great effort from Hyundai -a benchmark after the swift sensation of 2005.

What was your OEM tire size and what did you change it to? I noticed that many cars have a speedo error with the OEM set up. From reading many reviews in ACI where they track the speedo with another devise speedo.

I went from 185 / 65 (Standard) to 185/70 on my car...
ps. Drive safe... 5 stars dont give you immortality :)
Dear johnn, the i20 is a pretty good car. The only thing i don't like is the ordinary ride comfort. Ride comfort should be good as we all know about indian road conditions.
Wouldn't your body roll increase with higher profile tyres?

I have not driven the i20 CRDi and decided against it for the steep difference in price Vs its petrol sibling. After reading all CRDi reviews in our forum, I'm curious to find out how it really is - will try to get a test drive on this soon.

It is definitely a great car with several unparalleled features and strengths. I find that the steep price and the poor rear leg room the only deterrents (in my view). Big boot is an attraction though. The seats (typically Hyundai) could have been more re-assuring as in the case of swift.

As per the website, no longer we get i20 crdi with sunroof, no curtain and side airbags. I guess not even disc in the rear wheels. So time to throw away those stickers about EruoNCAP :(

^Thats what i was wondering ,but than i thought he might have got the BS3 version ,which i think is not the case . :o
Hyundai aint offering sunroof , Disc in all 4 wheels etc in Diesel top end version.

Congrats on the car Johnn. Have driven the i20 crdi extensively on the highway. A real hoot to drive.

Is yours a BS3 model?
Congrats on the car man! Its sad that we don't see many i20s in Bangalore in comparison to others. Great safety features when it was released. Drive safe!
