Suzuki Swift VDi ABS : Safely addicted to streets & speed! A Suzuki Swift VDi ABS made it's way home on my B'day. It has been one of the best surprises that I ever got. The Planning : Back in August 2009 was when Our good ol' '96 Maruti 800 started showing signs of aging. Dad was it's second owner when we bought it in 2000. Since then, she has been loyal & had clocked over 1 lakh kilometers. Lots of emotions & memories attached to it. I know how hard it was to part ways with her & I almost had tears in my eyes when handing over the keys to one of my distant relatives. Yes! she went in good hands. The Wait : So, the first thought get a new car started in August 2009. I wanted to get a car a segment higher then the one we have now ('07 WagonR VXi). But the lack of parking space made a hatch an obvious choice. The car should have plenty of after-market support when it comes to external accessories & body-parts. Also, I did not want my long trips to be heavy on pocket. So, diesel it was. Another constraint was to buy a Maruti Suzuki Vehicle only (Dad is a VP in one of the dealerships). Keeping all these things in mind, a Swift LDi/VDi was the best match. However, the plan was sent to graves (only to be resurrected) after a family event took place. More waiting : Came Spring 2010 and the keeda for the Swift started somersaulting in my mind. A family meeting was called in and a VDi in White was finalised. This time, it would have been booked if grandpa would have not paid a visit to the hospital. I remember him apologising for the delay caused. Tears made their presence felt. Sob!! Some more waiting : It was the last week of May when I started sensing that everyone in the family is trying to hide something from me. I just ignored the feeling thinking it must be something with the whether. The perfect surprise : Came my b'day & dad asked me to wake up early in the morning to pay a visit to the temple. He said that he wants to accompany me as he needs to do some paperwork at his office which was near to the temple. It sounded a bit strange but I went along with it. So Dad, Mom & Sis went along with me. We stopped at Dad's showroom & suddenly everyone stepped outside the car & went inside. I was like what the ***. I parked the car to go inside & check. Suddenly, Mom comes out & hands a pair of keys to me. Dad & Sis followed. The closing scene of "Gone in 60 Seconds" zoomed past my mind. But, I was also concerned if dad bought another car then the swift diesel (It was a bit hard to convince him for a diesel). They walked me towards the PDI room where I saw her standing for the first time. A White swift. Rushed towards the hatch & saw the VDi badge (Phew!). Hugged everyone & took her out to the parking area. Parked her & took a quick look around. Wow! what a beauty (This ain't the first swift I saw but don't things look better when you are the owner?) Took her to the Petrol (!!) pump & got 1000 INR of diesel. The fuel needle went over 3/4ths. What a relief! Visited the temple then & got the puja done. Came back home where wifey was waiting to see the look on my face. I thought 'Sabko pata tha, mujhe hi nahi bataya'. A quick hug to grandpa & went out for a spin to our native place. Buying experience : None, It was a surprise from family!! Initial experiences with the car : She has done 300 kms in one week. No squeaks/rattles yet. The tyres need upgrade. In love with the turbo.
