Yes. I believe the current gearbox cannot handle more than 210 Nm torque, not too sure on the gearbox model no or the code. C210/c510.

May be Fiat should have introduced the gearboxes that they provide elsewhere in the world.

Fiat has not lived upto the expectations on this model. It is an extremely good looking car. Wish Fiat had lived up on the performance front as well. The critical point now will be the pricing. Hope Fiat atleast does not blow the pricing out of proportion.

I hear this way too often on T-BHP off late, how Swift having same engine is peppier than Punto. Comparing 1075kg Swift with 1190 kg GP MJD and telling Fiat to learn from Maruti about engine tuning to make it peppy? Well, logic beats me for sure.

But, may be our esteemed T-BHPians know about engine tuning lot more than both Maruti and Fiat engineers. I am sure, I don't.

This Maruti engine tuning is another rhetoric on T-BHP, similar to how tiny crumple zones and not overall build of car make it safer

I still feel FIAT should not priced this model more than 10-15K on the current. As anyways there is free insurance running for quite some time. Instead they could have just set the discounted price for the FGT and made space at the current price for the VGT. Only time will tell.

FIAT needs to really tighten the screws on the QC, especially rubber parts. Its not about pathetic quality, its more to do with the workmanship.

Does the word training come to my mind instantaneously, Hell yeah!

I feel they are asking about 10-15k too much on this one.

I wonder, is there something wrong with me or do all others drive cars completely differently? Not for a moment have I felt the i20 lacking in handling, or losing its composure.
Not me for sure. i20 is a contemporary hatch and it would be foolish to think that it cannot handle but the problem is communication. It just doesnt communicate enough via steering wheel or the seat of the pants. Its a pretty neutral car that won't encourage you to push harder which is right opposite to the character of the Punto.
Some people prefer the former, some latter, I fall in the latter category

Just read about pricing. No Fiat No! 15k's would have been enough given that nothing much has changed apart from the engine.

Few queries about TD cars:
The TD car here had circa 950kms on the ODO.
Are these cars run in before the keys are handed over to the public for a TD?

Most cars open up after the first service and oil change. If I am handing over the keys of a brand new car to the public, it would obviously seem that the car is not performing the way it should, when ideally the car is actually in the run-in period. And we all know how most enthusiasts TD new cars.

And that goes for all the car reviews.
I am sure that the vehicles that are handed over to the press for their testing have all been run-in and tuned by the engineers at the factory.

On the engine tuning front, I have a different theory:
Maruti is the only company which advertises its brilliant service. I absolutely love that idea where the car company has moved beyond selling and promises good service too. Not sure why the others cant do it?
Hence, Maruti tunes the engines for a better performance, but at a cost of frequent service, which again is easily available.
Fiat on the other hand depends on Tata for service. It is way better for them to keep the service intervals high, since there aren't too many service centers available. In my opinion, Fiat is just playing safe. Although I am yet to hear about a blown Fiat engine.

I am so fed-up of listening to people compare the state of tune of the engines of the Swift and the Punto. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. for example in the Punto FGT that I have driven all you need to do is slot the car into 3rd and forget about it in city traffic while in the Swift you have to constantly come down to 1st and 2nd! And on the higway, there is absolutely no comparison between the 2! Punto is plain brilliant! As for the price of the VGT Punto, I think it is ok to charge a premium of 30k.

I dont own the Punto btw but a friend has it and he shifted from a Swift. He loves it to bits!

From Fiat India website:
1248 cc
93PS@4000 rpm
209 Nm torque@ 2000 rpm

Now that's a reason for turbo to kick in at 2000 rpm.
Peak torque is rated at 2000 rpm as compared to 197 NM@1750 rpm for the FGT.

Do you have the torque curve so that we can compare torque post 1500 rpm for both.
