Re: 2010 Maruti Alto K10 : Review

Hello Guys.
I am planning to buy a pre-workshipped Alto K10. However the worry is I might have to re-register the vehicle once I move out from Chennai To Mumbai, and as re-registration is not possible for BS3 vehicles. I'm worried if the first Gen-Alto K10 is BS4 or not!

I am looking particularly for the first gen K10!

The 2014 model was BSIV, don't think the earlier generation was BSIV.
Having said that, why wouldn't re-registration of an existing old vehicle not be allowed, the vehicle scrapping policy is not yet out.

The K series Engines(K10 and K12) were always BS4 since the day of their launch(K10 in A Star and K12 in Ritz).

Boss wasn't the K10 engine launched in 2009, first in the A Star and was later introduced in WagonR and Alto K10?

Shashi

Would think the 2000 timeline was more like BS1, BS2. The more stringent BS4 didn't come in until 2010 or something with ban on registration ~2017.

Agree, I thought so too. Wiki agrees.

K10 engine in A star was initially BS3 and BS4 compliant engine was launched in 2010. I know that because my A star was BS3 compliant model

Thanks for confirming.

I realised this after I had posted. I got confused with the K12 which always came in BS4 guise. The BS3 A Star came with a different looking air filter design too.

Regards,
Shashi

PS: The Alto K10 was always BS4.

Just wondering if you got any better mileage by suggested methods? I own 2013 K10 Vxi, Type 1. Driven 71800+ kms and the condition is top notch (Touchwood) however the mileage has drastically dropped to 10-11 kmpl. I drive daily 40 kms. Monthly 1200-1500 kms

I changed spark plugs to NGK, changed air filter and all the suggested changes.

I just have a doubt on a faulty Coolant Temperature Sensor, Have to replace the same.

Would like to hear from you if anything particular helped you. Thanks in advance!!

Cheers

I have a 2010 model. The mileage depends a lot of the traffic and daily run. Most of the time I drive less than 2km at a time - 1 up and 1 down to the market. The mileage in this mode is between 12 and 10.

The difference is because as the time goes on the engine becomes sluggish. To revive it I take a run of 100km on the highway. That cleans up the engine (and that run gives me 18+). Actually the 100km run is free as the mileage for that run goes up and I get 400km in a tankful instead of 300-320 normally.

The maximum I got is 18+ with AC on a run to Karnal and back. Otherwise it is between 14 if there are a lot of long (20km+) runs and 10 if it only 1/2km at a time to the market.

One thing to note is that the 20+ with AC is only in the 5th gear on highways at 100- speed. Some have even got 25 at 80 on highways.

Have the following checked

1. Throttle body. Dismantle and clean thoroughly.

2. Silencer. It may have a lot of carbon deposited.

3. Air cleaner. The mileage will drop if it is wet (happens in rainy season).

4. Check clutch for slippage. If there is no play/dead zone in the clutch it may be slipping. If it slips then you are wasting a lot of engine power. This can happen if you changed the clutch recently and it was installed improperly.

5. Check brakes for binding. It is easily done. Find an empty stretch of road, about 200-300m long. Speed up to 60km/h and then put the car in nuetral and note how much it travels before stopping. If the brakes are binding it will stop pretty fast.

Lastly do an "Italian Tuning". That is take a spin for 100km+ on a highway that is relatively free of traffic so that you can hit 100. That does wonders for me every time.

: Stock clutch till date, did not change it.

Will have to see this. Will update once I get chance to do this. But recently my sister took my car for 350 kms highway ride, and I am pretty sure 100 kmph was average speed she maintained. However even on highway, Alto returned 12.5 kmpl

I used brim to brim for calculations.

All the more reason to check everything I have written.

Re: 2010 Maruti Alto K10 : Review

Hello all,

I am a proud owner of a 2011 Apr Alto K10 VXi - done around 40K Kms and in mint condition.

But, some nagging things that has been recently bothering me are,

1. Mileage has dropped down to 10-12 Kms for me too!!
2. Tyres have started to wear down - will be visiting one of my common friend's tyre showroom later this week.
3. (most important) - Headlight quality has gone down drastically. Kindly requesting all your advice on the best replacement I can do here... the best brightness that is allowed by law and also suits my elderly car. Kindly advice best shop in Bangalore to do this also... I live near HAL/ Murugeshpalya area.

We are planning the first long drive in the last 2 years to Mangalore in the week of 25th Oct. Hence want to do corrections on all the above preferably by this and next week...

Thanks in advance!!
