re: Review: 1st-gen Mahindra Thar (2011 - 2019)

I just called NBS, Girgaum and the sales guy gave me an ambiguous answer. He said, if it's going to be relaunched with added features, the price may go up to 9. However, he did not confirm if there was going to be a version-2.

Dear Trueintrepid: I would agree that M&M is not as 'on-the-toes' as other players but then Thar is a Niche vehicle. I would not expect the manufacturer to pay attention to detail to niche segment vehicles as they do with their bread & butter products. I am yet to come across a Scorpio owner who has bad experience story to tell.
This reminds us of the 'Premier Automobiles' era
I know one would expect a fair treatment after shelling 7 lakhs but then again, the same would not happen if you had brought their 'bread & butter' Scorpio or a Xylo.

I go with you JP1 - If you buy a Niche vehicle like the Thar then you have to forget the dealers and start finding your own way. And believe me ; that's the FUN part.

I don't agree on your take with the Niche segment bit. This is 2012 and this company needs to get its act together. Gone are the days when you were left with either a Premier or an Ambassador.

re: Review: 1st-gen Mahindra Thar (2011 - 2019)

Hey guys,
Been reading this thread and many others, especially related to the Thar and the other classic Jeeps, finally signed up and here is my first post - as I too am considering a Thar sooner or later.

Well, today out of boredom and curiosity I called up all the Thar dealers in Delhi, most of them took down my details and are still to revert with details, however two of them responded after transferring my call to the Thar Sales dept.

Shiv Automobiles says Thar CRDe 4x4 is available at an on-road price of 7.32L in Delhi, a M&M supplied A/C fitted by them is an additional 40,000.
The lady told me the waiting period is minimum 3 weeks, also on asking about That V2 or newer version or factory fitted A/C version - she said there was no chance of one coming anytime soon, on asking about hard top, she said that they only have soft top... fair enough, lack of knowledge or lack of interest in a non mainstream car...

Asked about TD, she said only for display, no demo vehicle available - quite disappointed to hear that.

Second dealer was - Koncept Automobiles:

They say onroad price Delhi is 7.29L A/C will be additional 30,000 and they have tie up with Bimbras or so they claim for a hardtop in 49k

On asking about V2, they said no information, delivery time of the CRDe is 1.5 months and customization another 4 days.

So around 8L for a hardtop+A/C that.... hmmm... worth it ?
Opinions ?

And any more information/scoop/rumors about the rumored V2 ?

A non OE HT is not worth it. And I doubt a THAR V2 is in the pipeline.

Hey,
Very good looking mod - including the interiors and the hardtop, can you PM the price of the total package ? (Including the A/C).

Thanks.

Why do you say so, any specific reasons?

This says alot, just hope the wait is not too long. And not 9L for the sake of sanity, 9L for Thar is not justified.

I doubt a THAR V2 will come - even if it does it is in 2013 or 2014..

Phew !

That's a long way ahead indeed . Anyways, considering the features list on the current Thar, could you guess what could be in the add/delete list of the V2 ,Headers ?

Cheers.

Thats too far, Headers.

I heard/read that some of the dealers have stopped booking and requesting folks to come back when booking opens in the 3rd week of march or 1st week of April for the newer version (be it V2 or enhanced V1 or whatever).

HVAC and Immobilizer are look to be the sure additions. Hearing about a little bit of cosmetic stuff as well. Some performance improvements can be welcome too (crawl ratio!). Anyways, we should soon come to know what is it.

If not the V2, a refreshed version is surely round the corner, not in 2013 or 2014.

Add to that ABS and bolero interiors... And a hike of 1L on road price.
