As far as I understand it, tubeless tyres are not recommended on steel rims as steel is very malleable and prone to dents etc., and therefore your tubeless tyres may experience a lot of leakage etc. whereas alloys stay in the exact shape that they are forged in. I know my TD car came with Bridgestones, and also the dealer says our car which will be delivered soon will be with Bridgestones. Since regularindian has got Goodyears, I was merely hypothesizing that maybe the Goodyears are not tubeless as they sit on rims. Still awaiting confirmation on that though from RegularIndian.

Meanwhile I am seriously trying to convince my dealer to upgrade me to Michellin XM1s through whatever private dealer (and at extra cost of course) so that I have Michellins on the car when I take delivery. This might be a bit of a struggle. What do people have to say about the Bridgestones?

Re: Toyota Etios - Booking to Delivery 45 Days

@RegularIndian, congrats on your buy, I wish you both clock a lot of miles together!
Do you think your comments about the dash quality are influenced due to the Linea that you see in front of your car (as in the pics)?
It is amazing Toyota have been able to deliver before expectations. As usual they set a benchmark for the market; it is a shame the other manufacturers/ dealers rarely exceed it.

The tubeless tyres on steel rims thing sounds strange to be as well. Most cars nowadays come standard with tubeless tyres (on steel rims for the lower end versions). Actually even the Nano comes with tubeless tyres.

^ maybe I am mistaken, but regardless... if they are giving Bridgestones on VX and V variants and Goodyear on G variant, there must be some reason for it - maybe cost cutting.

I went to shinrai toyota yesterday in mumbai and drove the vx variant. car seemed very comfy to ride in and the seats were really comfy more which surprised me. the steering though was scarily light and it took me a while to get used to it being so light. comparing it to my corolla its very light. overall was impressed with the car and its quality though it does feel built to a particular price and audience but great car to give to the driver and the vx variant comes with a dvd music player was shocked to hear that. slightly put off with the 12 month waiting period i was told.

Are you sure that the music player is a DVD player and not a CD player?

Yup the top end vx model comes with a dvd player. The V model comes with a cd/mp3 player.
The dvd player in the VX model also has a video out at the rear to fit an aftermarket screen.

Thanks for clearing my query within 5 mins.

But, I've a query regarding the rear video screen. Where are we supposed to fit them? On the front headrests eh?

Re: Toyota Etios - Booking to Delivery 45 Days

^ There is no provision for rear screens. And front screens IMHO is being downright irresponsible. So really all the VX's system has is that you can burn a lot of mp3s on a 4.7GB DVD that's all - and considering you can get a usb / Aux-in port for Rs. 585, that hardly seems worth it.

i hope it is not for the longest waiting period in automoibile history

By the way, had a look at the car finally! Looked okay, but nothing exciting.
The build (doors, boot) felt flimsy. No wonder as the car is feather-weight.
Yes, the interior plastic quality is bad, dashboard looks even worse but the space is amazing.
The ideal budget sedan I would say but lacks the finesse one expect from a Toyota

@RegularIndian, congrats and drive safe!
You must be feeling lucky to get this car is such a short span when others are waiting for ages.
Great ownership report and keep up the good work!

Re: Toyota Etios - Booking to Delivery 45 Days

Test-drove the Etios.

Positives:
- FUN to drive. Low end torque, fair amount of power on tap, revving is fun
- Requires fewer gear changes and gear shift is short and slick
- Exterior fit and finish is Toyota class
- Paint job is very good
- Looks better in flesh than in pics
- SPACE - lots everywhere - driver footwell, rear legroom, cubbyholes, boot
- Ride quality is very good - nice settled, non-bumpy ride

Negatives
- Steering ... its like a playstation wheel ... actually even lighter ... just NO feel - didnt get the chance to do speeds higher than 80, so not sure of steering behaviour at high speeds - i doubt if it would be any different
- Plastics - the door trim plastic is really low-rent - Even most hatchbacks from a previous era will have better quality. The problem is that the plastic feels hard and thin to feel - so, might be durable but it does not have any FINESSE at all
- No beading on doors - traffic noise does filter through a bit

Overall - looks like this will make for a great, reliable and fun workhorse. For anyone with some sensibility of finesse for the interiors, please look elsewhere.

I suspect the lower variants (at 5 lacs and 5.4 lacs approx) offer unbeatable value combined with reliability. Folks buying the higher value variants (at 6.4 and 6.8 lacs approx) seem to get only a little bit of chrome here and there etc (aside of the safety features) - at 6.8 lacs ex-showroom you expect a little (!!!) more on the interiors!

One more thing - Honestly, if Tata had introduced such interiors instead, they would have been bashed up by now ... Toyota reliability means sab khoon maaf !

MODS : Please delete from here. Have posted in the wrong thread ! Have moved this to 'official new car review' section
