congrats rkap01 on the car and welcome to teambhp.
good to have another bhpian from ludhiana.

regards the crunching noise that you and raghu complain of-
i too had the very same problem with my jazz but the noise came from the front suspension thereabouts.

the same thing happened to me that after driving around for a while it would totally go away and could not be replicated at the dealership.
still they checked the under-body and mountings thoroughly and made sure everything was in place.

i have driven the car after that and it seems to have been solved though the source of the noise could never be found out.
even now i do sometimes feel that the noise does exist but not as prominent as before.

you can checkout the video i put up in my ownership thread regarding the same problem just so that i could point out to the service center guys that there was in fact something not right with the car.

hope this helps.
and hey put up some pics man.

I hope the problem gets solved because it is so difficult to demonstrate the sound after a few Kms! I will try recording it :)

Congrats on the car rkap! It is a joy to drive in traffic as well as on the highway and the mileage is pretty awesome.

The system does play MP3 files. You can plug in a tiny USB drive full of MP3s and it will play them all. Trust me, I've been doing that for a while now, so don't really miss the CD player.

You can connect an iPod into the auxiliary input if you want to play from the iPod.

In "S" mode, gears will down-shift automatically if you go too slow.

"S" is Sport mode (not Shift) and I don't think you have to necessarily upshift and downshift manually. It will automaticaly upshift to protect the engine at the redline. Also if you slow down, it will automatically downshift. That's how it works in the Vento, and from what I remember of my TD, the ANHC too.

'S' is not actually Sport either, its Sequential Mode.

In 'S' mode it will shift gears automatically, it will upshift around 3500 RPM against 2000-2200 RPM of 'D' mode.

But once you use the shifters in 'S' mode it goes in Semi-Auto mode ('M' is visible in console), then on wards it will not upshift automatically rather at redline it will decrease the RPM by 500, One has to upshift manually. Downshifting will keep on happening automatically.

Thanks guys. Sequential it is. It does shift down in S Mode. I would rather not try the upshifting in the S mode especially in the run in period.

By the way how does the engine run in period help the car?

Per Honda this city doesn't require any run-in. But I was not taking it beyond 2500 RPM for first 1000KM but in between sometime it is advised to take up to higher RPM as well, might be up to 5000. 'S' mode can help in that.

A different run-in theory says to run the car in almost complete RPM band.

The most generalized one says, "No hard breaking for first 300KM, RPM under 2500 for first 1000KM with occasional bursts".

I am very keen to find out whether someone has done a comparison of automatic transmission models available in the market. The reason i ask is that I would like more and more people to know about the benefits of automatic transmission especially on the Indian roads.
I am also keen to know the sales figures of cars with automatic transmissions in India! My research on the net indicates that Honda has an exclusive stake in the Automatic transmission. All their cars except jazz have good AT transmissions! Jazz, a best selling car in western countries have been an exception with no AT transmission available in India. Anyway, the wonderful car is almost a write off because of very poor pricing policy of Honda India!

Congratulations on your ANHC! Our civic AT also has paddle shifters but you cannot use them while in D. They can only be used while in S(sport) mode. Its cool that honda has updated their transmission an added this feature to the city. In the civic once you shift into S mode the shift pattern turns more agressive and the cars tranforms into its true sporty character, all this while still remaining fully automatic. Once you tug onto either of the paddles in S mode it shifts into semi auto mode. I say semi auto because it still downshifts when you slow down, but only to make sure the engine does not stall. Else it goes all the way to the redline and will not upshift uncless you pull the + paddle. I am sure its the same for the city except the added feature of being able to use the paddles for sudden bursts in D. A fantastic value added feature in my opinion.
I managed to see the urban titanium shade once on the road, but it sped off quickly, so awaiting your pics. Also is the exclusive variant only available in this shade, or can we get it in any colour we want. I too am a sucker for OE fitments. Even if it means spending 13k for the cd player which you did. Hows the quality of the leather seats by the way? Spending the extra 40k or so for the exclusive variant is definately a wise decision.
IVTEC engines are extremely rev happy and beg to be driven on the red line all day long. Wishing you all the best whenever you wish to experience the redline as well as many miles of joyful motoring with your new beauty.

The car is at the dealers' so that the early morning sound can be assessed!
Lets hope for the best! :Frustrati

I have since done another long distance 200 KMs and here are some other inputs:One more thing: 2 years + 2 years warranty and 4 years free road side assistance service anywhere in India are good bonuses and gives you a very secure feeling as well as money well spent!

Congrats on the car Mate, I have driven and enjoyed my time every time i drive the AT version, going through traffic is a breeze, i think its time we all think a little beyond FE, comfort on the drive is a big bonus. Enjoy the car.

Best wishes -ML

Congrats on the ANHC AT. It is a competent and hassle free car.
I think it is the other way - panel remains brightly lit when the lights are off, since you need more contrast during day time, and the minute you switch on the lights, the panel brightness fades, assuming it is night.

The instant fuel consumption helps you to learn the finer nuances of managing the car on the road, thus helping one to conserve fuel. It helped me in reinforcing the fact that a constant pressure on the accelerator gives better fuel consumption. This car at a steady 90 stays almost always hover around 18 kms per liter![*]The Instrument Panel lights are always on and in fact are dimmed when the front lights are switched off. One negative is the brightness of the panel lights cannot be adjusted manually![*]The dual tone colored dashboard is good, with the black and beige being two colours. I really don't like the aluminum coloured paneling around the audio system as it clashes with the two tone interiors. The leather seats in beige are refreshing to look at. I am no expert, but the quality of leather seems to be good.

* The panel showing all the info is good as well as distracting! I remember when we went for our first long drive, I was quite fixated with the FE and driving distance left etc.

* The instrument panel dims AFTER you switch on the parking/head lights. Please check.

* I wonder which colour would go with the dual tone. Black would look monotonous. I think the aluminium shade works fine.

the brightness of the instrument panel can be adjusted when the parking lights are switched on by rotating the knob sticking out from the instrument panel, at least in the jazz it can be done so assuming it would be the same for the city as well.

Just a small correction, It was the ANHC in which honda launched this new automatic system with paddle shifters and later same was introduced in Civic. I am very surprised by knowing that you can not use the shifters in 'D' mode, I regularly use the shifters in 'D' mode of my ANHC for:

1.) Overtaking, just downshift and get the surge and go past the side vehicle.

2.) Time to time I use it to lower the gear to come in 2nd when slowing down, as in this Automatic car it remains in 3rd gear and then it comes directly to 1st gear.

I tried; is so written in the service manual; no luck. Will try again!

I have a query

I am in Punjab and the night temperatures are around 7-8 C. When i take out the car at around 6.50 AM, there is a crunchy sound when i go over speed breakers. These speed breakers are quite small and thus not hitting the bottom of the car. That does happen for the next km or two. I sent the car for an inspection and they found everything OK except a badly fitted mud flap on the rt front wheel. The sound seems to originate from the posterior segment of the car. I do not hear any sound if the car hits a pot hole but the speeds are different. On the speed breaker, my speed would be around 5 km per hour! Any comments/views?! please:

I used to have this issue for first few kms and by the time I reach the dealer it used to be normal. I called the service agent home next day, so that he can feel the sound. He was pleasantly surprised with the sound. What they did was a complete removal/lubrication/refixing of suspensions. From then on I never had it again.

Hope that helps.

Waiting for pics dude.

Cheers

The car has been sent back; no sound was heard by the service guys except a sound they heard was that of petrol swirling in the tank in the cold early morning. Another guy told me that all bolts have been tightened.
I will try to figure out the sound in more detail and try to get the service guy to my place early morning to be able to demonstrate the sound.
Or i should just ignore it? Hmmm this is a difficult problem - my word against theirs! Any comments?
