@pgsagar that is a good practice you follow there. It enables you to see the wheels and distance from the curb. Also make sure to keep an eye up to see if someone is trying to pass. Pedrstrians have this nasty habit of cutting you off even while you are parking.
Also to bring to notice here is that how the BMW's mirrors tilt down on their own once you engage reverse.

Thanks! It indeed helps me maintain that distance form the kerb; I tend to park as close to kerb as possible to liberate more space on the other side. And yes, you are right about pedestrians. In fact, sometimes they come so close, you run the risk of driving over their toes. You have to look out for safety of these morons. BTW, good to know about this BMW mirror tilt feature. So, I am not alone.

thats a good point. I OFTEN adjust the passenger side mirror down when backing up and then readjust it back up. we can keep going round and round, but basically, I have arrived at a place where unless the car is a Lotus Elise grade purist machine, I will not absolutely not accept any automobile that does not have power windows (all), power door locks, and power adjust mirrors. I have no interest in walking around the car winding or unwinding the windows of other doors, no interest in going around locking and unlocking other doors, and no interest in wiggling waggling the passenger side mirror to adjust it. these are not 1984 era Maruti 800s

Was at Pratham motors Bangalore for another enquiry. I was pretty happy to be informed that A-Star AT was available off the shelf. I'm a bit surprised as I have nor heard the same from anyone else.

Did all us who booked the car get it?? Or is the wrong info that I was given??

Thats great news indeed. Cause earlier had heard that it was a special order and would take atleast 2 months. Good to hear Maruti is serious about their AT's.

The immediate delivery part, was it just a tactic to get a booking or is the reality now. I am not really sure.

Did anyone get a shorter waiting period than the 2 - 3 months quoted?

I got mine in 18 days, but that was after getting in touch with MUL and being a customer of theirs for a very long time helped too... This was in Jan 2011.

Im considering buyingan astar automatic as Toyota Etios liva AT will be coming very late.

Can the owners tell me the realistic mileage figures in City and on Highways without AC.... Im in Bangalore :D.

How about resale value ..Im seeeing some new ads on TV for this car. Maybe MAruti wants to either introduce new model or increase the sale of this one. First option seems to be more likely :deadhorse

@humveeguy, since you are in B'lore, you should be looking at the figures got by scuderiaferrari who uses his A*-AT in Blore and which I believe are available on this thread itself.

My car has now crossed 8k kms. The average FE now hovers around 10 - 12 km/l, gone down considerably for 2 reasons. I hardly drive the car. My wife does. And most of the driving is very short drives, lots of learning to reverse (too much of it - close to 1 hr continuously with A/C on + idling + moving few 10 meters back and forward, once resulted in sub 10 km/l). Either ways short drives of 2 - 3 km per instance is not going to be kind on FE.

But whenever I use it, in heavy traffic, I still get 13 - 14 km/l on a light foot with A/C and 11 - 12 km/l on a heavy foot ( lots of kick down)

In my recent trip to Coorg, 4 adults, 3 kids (3.5yr, 2yr, .5 yr), some driving by better half, A/C, local trips in Madikere we got 15 km/l. It was very good.

One thing for sure, this is a very efficient engine with a quick thinking gearbox. If you are on a very light foot, still capable of 14 - 15 + km/l in city with moderate A/C. Not exaggerating, on a light foot and driving in the way an AT should be.

Without A/C - have not tried much. But will for sure be above 13 - 14 km/l.

I am loving this car, and whenever my wife allows, takes it over my Baleno. In fact, I was ready to forgo the fun and comfort of Baleno for the ease of the AT in my recent trip to Madikere.

Car is now done 11000 mms, done with the 3rd service. FE in B'lore (100% AC and wife using it on short drives of 4-5 kms, and weekends of 100+ km) is about 11.2 - 11.5 km/l. Which I believe is good, considering the engine hardly gets time to warm up, AC is on 100% of the time, pretty good traffic involved, additional electric load of fog lamp and the headlight, parking in an open area under direct sunlight and heat for almost the whole day time... I am still confident, that if I drive carefully, I should get anything between 13 - 14 km/l without too much of an effort.

My last trip to Kerala (or rather return) gave me about 14 km/l (This was with full load, extremely heavy rains and pretty bad traffic. It took me about 14 hours, against the normal 10 - 11 hours.)

Well, I saw in another blog one user from chennai saying 16 kmpl on city and around 19kmpl on highways on AT !. Is that really possible according to you ?

Regaring the accessories etc, I have queries:

Is under-anti rust coating required for astar ?

Regarding seats, Im looking for material that doesnt causes much heat on body. In that sense Im thinking fabric seat cover will be better than art leather covers :eek:. But the bimal showroom has got just one shade for the astar in fabric type. The other type is g-sport which seems to be costly .

For sunfilm, they are asking me to take 'global' windows sunfilm. Is this a good brand. ?

just booked the A star auto today in azure grey colour but after seeing scuderiaferrari's sunlight copper.im having second thoughts!! might jump the wagon to that color!!

How much did the 3rd service cost, specifically the oil ? Did they use synthetic oil, as people say is needed for cars with K-series engine ?
