LOL!

Come over for a long drive again!

PS: Raj, only the roof becomes black. Nothing else. Pintu looks best when stock.
I know! You know my taste.

EDIT1: Whats up on the ICE front?
Ramie has not replied. My scorpio's amp is dead!

EDIT2: I've been one of the few persons to be in the backseat of Pintu. She is accommodating, but my knees did tend to ache after say, an hour. That is purely because I'm a 6 footer and the person sitting in front was also a 6 footer. Well, almost.
Sorry, you chose the wrong seat, right behind me!

re: Story of my Italian horse - Fiat Punto 90HP. EDIT: Sold!

My car is going to be ICEd this sunday, most probably. Comps in front, co-axials in rear, sub in boot, two amps & the likes.

I am also planning to add Roots Windtone 90 horn & more powerful headlamp bulbs, maybe 100/90.

Meanwhile, 2 rolling pics - courtesy my friends Aditya & Arun -

re: Story of my Italian horse - Fiat Punto 90HP. EDIT: Sold!

The Punto is my favorite Hatch, and i love it in RED

Raj, the car looks fab, why not paint the roof, shining BLACK, that would add more character to the already Good looking car.

I feel the alloys are making a bit of understatement, there's something missing.....!

All in all, congratulations. I always say this to everyone, Punto is THE BEST LOOKING hatch amongst all and better VFM than others in the same segment.

Thanks a lot sir.

Yes, I am painting the roof in glossy black, probably during first service.

I am planning only very subtle mods, i am not a fan of heavily modded cars.

I know sir, I have replied in post # 8309. I have never been spotted in my scorpio. I purchased my punto 2 weeks back & I have been spotted thrice!

BAD NEWS:

My car's steering wobbles above 90 kmph. Today is the first time, after fitting the alloys, that i got a chance to go above 90 kmph. below 90, the steering is absolutely normal.

What could be the problem guys?

re: Story of my Italian horse - Fiat Punto 90HP. EDIT: Sold!

^^ Is this wobbling only between certain speeds, like say between 90 & 100 and fine beyond 100 ? If this is the case , then it means your wheels may not be properly balanced.

re: Story of my Italian horse - Fiat Punto 90HP. EDIT: Sold!

^^ it is to do with wheel balancing.

Generally, every time tyres are removed from a rim and fixed again, it is recommended to do a balancing. When I had bought my alloys, they had done balancing and affixed sticker weights on about 2 wheels

Get it balanced and it will be fine

re: Story of my Italian horse - Fiat Punto 90HP. EDIT: Sold!

I got the wobbling checked at the tyre shop. They said the balancing is fine.

The guy says this is the problem with puntos. In some rare cases, the steering wobbles. the solution, according to him, is that he will add a small ring on the wheel hub (like a washer) & he says that will completely eliminate the wobbling.

Is this safe & advisable?

I have driven the car upto 100 kmph. the steering wobbles after 90 kmph.

Even in my case, the alloys were balanced.

re: Story of my Italian horse - Fiat Punto 90HP. EDIT: Sold!

^^ The tyre shop is wrong. The wobble is definitely NOT inherent to Puntos. As you would know, the wobble can be caused by something as simple as low tyre pressure to the usual wheel balancing issue (especially since you have a new set of alloys, thought they are the right PCD).
The washer/sleeve the tyre guy suggests seems like the 'jugaad' solution, something that shouldn't be required in a car that's been engineered to run well at higher speeds. There are a few things you can try:

a. Check tyre pressure on both front wheels.
b. Go to a different tyre shop and get a second opinion on the balancing. If you have an alloy for the spare wheel, try swapping it (sometimes a defect in the tyre itself can cause a wobble).

Finally, if this doesn't work, go to the dealership and ask for their help, while you are there, you can test drive another Punto to your heart's content.

The wobble is probably due to your aftermarket alloys. I think your tyrewallah is right. They are called hub centric rings, search on tbhp about it. Please get a good quality one made.

I too think the same, we had opted for after market alloys for the VLX, but were forced to retort back to OE ones as the steering used to wobble over 100kmph.

With back to OE ones, the Scorpio is behaving as any normal Scorpio would.

Yes, that was the first thing I did. I checked the tyre pressure on all the tyres. I even checked for defects in the tyres.

I have driven the test drive Punto at high speeds & there is no steering wobble whatsoever in the car.

I am a bit apprehensive about this.

Are they safe & advisable, if a good quality one is used?

I have already sold my OE alloys to a BHPian.
