Its not that other cars in the segment are poorly built. It is just that Volvo was known for its safety. However over years, the others have closed the gap very effectively. At max, there would be less than 5% difference between the built quality of a 3, C and S60.

Koreans have better resale value coz they have proven that even 5 year old examples do not require delicate care whereas the German require very delicate care as the amount of expensive maintainance is what one accounts for when usually buying user cars of warranty.

Remember, the numbers of kms that each Korean / Japanese cars have done while testing products in India is way beyond what any German has done. Experience counts in making the product a better one in its respective price band.
