Hi, with the bean counters you never know. But Im quite certain, when BS4 will come in to force across India , they won't have much options left.
Cheers

Or they can scrap the whole model considering we are talking bean counters here. Also the any change in model requires VRDE certification and Getaway as per my understanding sells only about 100 units a year domestically.

This is the price you have to pay if you are not part of the herd mentality!

Invoking a old thread.

MC, were you able to get any tyres in 245/75 R16. I have a Scorpio 4WD with stock MRF Wanderer AT 235/70 R16. Looking to upsize to your tyre size, but not getting anything promising.
The other day i saw Maxxis is now selling these size in Bangalore. Those were Maxxis Bighorn MT costing 9K each. But these were MT tyres and not suitable for highway.
Do let me know if you have found anything in Getaway specs

The only 245/75 R16 that is available is JK Elanzo. Decent on the highway but has some noise. Offroading traction is nothing great.

Thanks MC. I guess JK Elanzo is more of HT and not an AT.
Will probably stick Wanderers or switch to Michelin.

re: I gotta Get-away!!! - Scorpio Getaway 4x4 EDIT : Now SOLD!

My Getaway is about 3.5 yrs old and has only done about 42K Kms. Offlate it does only city runs and hence the engine hardly has done a high speed high rpm cruising all day. And I feel the engine has become sluggish.

Even though the air filter indicator has not shown the red band yet, I planning to change it. Also thought may be put an additive for one tankful.

So my questions are:

1. Do you think there could be clogging in the injectors and putting additives will clean it up?

2. If an additive needs to be put, which one (considering that there are so many of them out in the market) and in what proportion?

3. Would 1 tankful i.e. 80L tank be enough?

4. What else could be done to improve the sluggishness?

Thanks in advance

It should, but over a couple of tankfuls. Add System-D to the tank @ 1.5% per litre and then @ 1% per litre. It kept Hariya (with a similar CRDe heart) in his prime for a long long time.

Xado has some very good engine oil additives and they too result in significantly improved smoothness of the engine. I have also tried, tested and now trust them completely.

The dosage is explained above.

Give it a couple of reasonably long, high speed runs (full speed for a good 10 minutes with gradual acceleration and decelration) after its has warmed up with Sys-D and Xado in its engine. You could prolly use your super-wide ORR for it.

And yes, have your wheel bearings and both prop shafts greased and replace the air filter element.

Let us know how it goes.

Apart from the regular solutions, do you do an Italian tuneup periodically? Quite useful.

re: I gotta Get-away!!! - Scorpio Getaway 4x4 EDIT : Now SOLD!

Based on the inputs given by the AVR and Devdath, I first changed the air filter and then two days later added Iftex System D.

While changing the air filter made the engine breath more freely and I could feel that in the pick-up, one thing I felt strange that the turbo whistle had become more pronounced and crisper. However, I feel the perceptible difference came after with 25 Kms of adding System D. After adding System D, I went on a 50KM steady high speed drive on the ORR and by the end of it, I could feel a perceptible difference.

Not only the pickup has increased, I feel the engine is now humming much more silently. While I have always been a sceptic on the usefulness of these additives, I cannot disagree that my truck's engine feels better. I used first time in 3.5 yrs and 43K Kms. So the question is what is the ideal interval of using these additives?

re: I gotta Get-away!!! - Scorpio Getaway 4x4 EDIT : Now SOLD!

Hi MC,

Was on the lookout for a good 4wd for my farm use which could double up as a platform for an expedition vehicle which I plan to build and zeroed in on the getaway. Stumbled on your two threads and I must admit sitting in 2015, I can see a good relation between these threads and what M&M did to its 4wd product line. Both Thar AC and the Scorpio LX 4WD seems to be a direct result of these two threads. Kudos!!

Coming back to my search, I am getting a 65k done 2011 getaway for ~5 lacs. The vehicle seems to be clean and sanely used. Engine too looks young and powerful. Do you think its worth buying a 65k used getaway? From my experience with my Xylo which I used for a good 140k kms (power delivery was still as good as new) and sold few months ago, these engines are almost bullet proof. What other aspects should I look for since suspension too is quite simple and not complicated.

Any particular reason why you are selling yours? (yours not within my budget )

If not than I might consider a new Thar few months down the line.

Regards
Vinay
