4.55 drive ratio will increase the acceleration given that the Tornado rides on 245/70 R16 unlike the 235/70 R16 on regular Scopio. And the Limited Slip Differential will improve its off-road capability quite a bit. Especially with MLD up front.

Today was a day that was spent driving wifey around town for shopping. And that meant visiting multiple mall, underground parking. The Tornado stands tall at about 6.5 feet at the roof and then has a 1.5 foot long antenna (Vertical height 1 Foot). Most underground parkings are height restricted to 7'. The antenna of the Tornado today touched the roof or AC Conduits, beams et al that I feared, it will break.

Need to do this pronto!

In the last 3 days, I have driven the "Tornado" close to 250 Kms within the city limits and have been getting to understand it better. One thing I slowly getting used to is the "hulk & bulk"of the vehicle. I'm slow learning the art of 3/4/5/6/even 7 point turns. This being a tall vehicle, the antenna touches the ceiling in most basement/underground parking. I'm also getting used to the bewildered gaze of lot of people when they see a pick-up truck with "decent people" sitting inside an A/C Cabin. I'm generally not stopped at the mall parking for checking because of the open load bay . I once told a guard at one of the malls here "Jitna dekhna hai dekhlo, sab khula hai" (Check as much as you want, its all open).

Coming to specifics:

1. The pickup of Tornado is lesser than the Storm. The sudden surge once turbo kicks-in is missing in this. May be because the beast weighs about 2.1 Tons. Thinking that I might need the 4.55 drive ratio sooner than I thought. I'm so missing my Storm!
2. From Thursday I started feeling a strange vibration/ sound from the engine after 2500 RPM as if the engine is resisting.
3. I received a mileage of 9.24KMPL which I felt was less considering a part of the tank was used for highway run as well.

I visited the ASC with these issues and while there, I somehow felt that the left (passenger side) was slightly lower than the driver side. The vehicle was taken for Test Drive and after a few new technicians ( 2 actually), I jumped into the saddle accompanied by my favourite tech specialist "Dattu" and went. He agreed that there was a vibration/resonance and said will tighten all the body bolts before taking any action. The height at the wheel well was also measured and found to be lusser by about 1.5" on the passenger side affirming my hunch.

While the vehicle was lifted on the hoist and I was inspecting the underbody (my first), I was shocked to see that the bolt on the differential for LSPV spring was missing. After blasting the SA's for doing a half baked PDI, I got the body bolts tightened and LSPV Spring bolt fixed.

I'm checking the vibrations as of now and will need to go for a full day for the following jobs:

1. Suspension height adjustment, alignment.
2. Too much play on driver side front window.
3. Head light beam too narrow.

I would like to thank Spike Arrestor for taking the my call and guiding me through the LSPV Bolt installation. The technicians realised that I knew the job and the setting dimensions and hence took out the special tool for that. Spikey, thanks for being there. Your gift is on the way .

Lest I forget, I would like to put in a good word for the ASC. Releasing my insistence for perfection, the technicians, SA, W/S Manager,no one messes around with me with BS. The moment my vehicle goes to the ASC, its straightway taken for TD (if required) else is taken straight to the floor and work started while Job card is being opened. Sometimes, it doesn't even get opened by the time I leave. In the above instance, my vehicle went in at 4.30PM and was out by 5.45 PM. I like their honest approach with me and hence I feel its been a good decision to stick to Automotives.

Hearty congratulations on the Tornado, I guess the name suits the car and its pre delivery situation =)
One word of advise as a marine engineer, please do not drive in Sea water, if you want to maintain the car in top condition for a years to come. SW is a deadly corrosive and once it (corrosion) sets in there is little that can be done as far as underbody bits are concerned.

I was out of station and the Tornado was standing safely tucked in, in its parking slot. I come back and see someone has nicked the rear left bumper taking the paint off apart from dismembering the bumper of its shape. The culprit is a new driver in the builder. Only solace is he has agreed to pay for the damages.

Went to the ASC today to get the above done and even after fiddling with the alignment the issue of height adjustment wasn't resolved. Since the ASC hardly gets to see Torsion bar equipped front suspension, they don't seem to know how to fix it.

Can any of the Scorpio 4X4 guys please elucidate.

I have seen this issue reported by another person where the torsion bar was not correctly installed. I am sure a bit of search here will help. If I get my hands on that thread before you do I will PM. Good luck .

It's a pretty simple adjustment, but painstaking at the same time. I had this issue with Fox too, when after a inadvertent leap in the air, courtesy a ditch I didn't see, the front right sunk a bit.

To adjust the torsion bars, first park it on level ground, take a tape measure and measure the distance from top of the tyre to the fender lip (it was about 6" in Fox, but since the Getaway has 245/70 profile tyres it may be a bit less).

Then jack up the vehicle (the side you want to adjust).

Next, look at the point where the torsion bar connects to the chassis at the rear portion (somewhere under the B-pillar area).

You'll find a bracket where the torsion bar goes in, and a nut beside it. This is the adjuster nut. It's a size 21mm I think, can't remember exactly.

Take a wrench and give it half a turn or a full turn clockwise to raise, anti-clockwise to lower.

Lower the jack, bounce the vehicle around a bit for the suspension to settle or take a short drive.

Come back and repeat the process, until satisfied . It's a great work out.

Oh, and yes, once you've got the height adjustment spot on, your alignment will likely be off - so go and get an alignment done again.

And by the way, the ASC has no clue how to do this! You'll have to educate them, as they are mostly used to looking at 4x2 Scorps. Only one or two mechanics are aware that this can be done. I had a yelling match once at Bhasin in Delhi, and then pointed out to the Service Manager how this adjustment was to be done. They then very sheepishly agreed and did it once, but not satisfactorily.

The next time this happened, I did it on my own.

Hi Spike, it's almost max height on both sides, with about 6" gap between the fender and top of the tyre. Is that too much? It's been like that for over a year now, since I last adjusted it.

Wouldn't max height start affecting the rear suspension also? Not that it matters but I have done the same adjustment on my Safari 4wd and it does feel a bit weighed down at the back. Would like to know if/how this affects the rear suspension? Spike?
