re: Kodai and Madurai --> An unforgettable trip

We came from the pillars rock back to the lake and tried going to Coaker's Walk. Man the road leading to this is so small that without touching any other vehicle you can't pass at all.

Coaker's Walk is about 1km from the lake and runs along a steep slope on the southern side of Kodai

When we went there the crowd was so much that you couldn't even step down from the car, leave alone walking.

So we decided to laze around the Lake and Byrants park.

Some pics of the lake and Byrant's park.

Great pics of the fog there; I feel like leaving work rightaway!
I hope you have many more pictures of Kodai and Madurai to share with us
By the way, how was the road surface quality between Dindigul & Kodai; I think you only mentioned it was single lane & full of traffic
How many people in the Xylo and how did it do in the ghat section?

Thanks man. But now I guess it is coming to an end of the season and last I heard was not much of fog is left. May be on that day it was not there.

Road is good but very narrow for a big vehicle. Some places there are potholes, but nothing to worry as such. We were 4 adults plus 2 half. It performed very well . Nothing to worry at all. Many vehicles in this category(don't want to name then and start a fight) were crying to go up the ghat .

AFAIK, the lake was created in 1863 by Sir Vere Henry Levinge. The boat service was opened to the public in 1932.

Bryant Park is famous for it's flowers, hybrids and grafts. Cut flowers are exported from here. A flower show is conducted in the month of May every year which is a part of summer festival

We stayed in a hotel called "Hotel Mount view" which is in front of Kodai international. Pretty good hotel and has its own restaurant which serves very good Veg food.

The cost of the food was also nominal when compared to other hotels. For one day the charge of the hotel was 1200/-.

There are many hotels in and around Kodai lake. You even have pizza hut.

Re: Kodai and Madurai --> An unforgettable trip

So we reached Kodai by noon. We stayed in Madurai residency hotel. It was an awesome room. The cost was 1800/- plus tax.

In the evening we went to Meenakshi Temple. Rain was pouring like anything.

Madurai is almost 120kms from kodai.

Some pic of the temple.

Re: Kodai and Madurai --> An unforgettable trip

Good pictures, especially the ones with fog. It must have been really difficult driving through the fog and that too in a hilly path way.

Thanks for the info Jeev. The day I did the journey, the people near that split(the junction where you take left for Kodai and Right for Palani) told that it is closed and we can give a try with some OTR track. I didn't venture into that with family onboard. Good to know that now that stretch is open.

Re: Kodai and Madurai --> An unforgettable trip

Hi Shishir,
Thanks for the nice pics. And look at the crowd in the first pics of the page. As you describe, such crowd really spoils the holiday mood and you feel like running away from it. But then you really can't escape from it anywhere in India.
Nice pics of the Meenakshi Temple too.

Is it, the pics of the kodai ghat road that you have posted here looks quite easy to maneouvre with fairly wide roads and decent climb angle.
I would like to know which all cars you saw struggling to go up on the Ghat. IMO, this climb looks like, it is not a very steep one when compared to the climb on 36 Hair pin bends for Ooty?
Would like to know, because though I have climbed Ooty twice with my Car, I haven't done Kodai yet.
