Re: Discover Greece

The next journey on the cards was Naxos. But Santorini was so beautiful that Sunita and I decided to prolonged our stay in Santorini by one more day and skip Naxos and head straight towards Mykonos. As per our German colleagues plan we went to book the ferry tickets from Santorini to Mykonos. To our surprise we found that most of the ferries are booked and have very little choices.

So the only option left for us was book a Business class in a fast ferry operated by Hellinic seaways called Flying cat. This ferry did really flied & soared through the water to reach us to Mykonos in 3 hrs time. Although the fare was expensive, Business class was a nice experience

About Mykonos:

Mykonos, also known as Chora i.e. town in Greek. It is one of the most cosmopolitan islands in Greece, known for its diverse and intense nightlife as evidenced by a vast number of bars and nightclubs. Mykonos is also known for its beaches (to be specific Gay beaches )

Well to be honest, although couple of beaches are famous as Gay beaches, the others are really nice and peaceful.

To our surprise, we met lot of Asian workers in Mykonos especially from Bangladesh who could speak Hindi.

Anyway, some of the interesting places:

Mykonos windmills - From as early as the 16th century, they are one of the most recognized landmarks of Mykonos.

Little Venice - Here the buildings have been constructed right on the sea's edge with their balconies overhanging the water. The streets inside little venice are kind of “Bhool bhulaiya”. Some of the locals told us that it was built in this fashion to trap the sea pirates.

Paraportiani - One of the most famous architectural structures in Greece. Its name means inner or secondary door which it was to the Medieval stone walls which encircled the area.

Aegean Maritime Museum - Displays models of a collection of ships from the pre-Minoan period through to the 19th century and nautical and ancient artifacts related to the history of shipping on Mykonos

The food in Mykonos is again very delicious. Anyone who is travelling to these Greek islands, I would recommend to try out their seafood. Huge lobsters and Crabs (with all due respect to veggies out there )

To roam around Mykonos we hired an ATV instead of a car so that we have more fun. Hiring any vehicle on these Greek islands is not that expensive.
About ATV, mind you, most of them come with a speed lock for safety reasons as the roads are narrow with heavy traffic during peak seasons. So if you want to have real fun over the beaches, ask for an ATV without speed locks.

After 2 days stay in Mykonos, finally the time had come to say “αντίο” read ‘Antio’ (Goodbye!!) to Greece.

From here we headed straight to Athens airport for our departure. Departure from a land of great culture & tradition, one of the first civilization, to say adieu to Acropolis, our dream island Santorini, that carved memories which we will cherish for our lives and the beautiful Mykonos with vibrant nightlife and still calm and peaceful.

Greece will always be my dream destination and would love to visit it again & again. I hope you guys enjoyed the journey along with me.
