Ranjit, trip to Annavaram can be very tiring for a weekend destination. Not a place for weekend outing for sure.

Venu sir, here is what I found on net.
Palair lake is major water resource in Khammam district. It is located at Palair village in Kusumanchi mandal in Khammam District of Andhra Pradesh, India. This lake is being utilized as balancing reservoir for Nagarjuna Sagar project's left main canal (La1 Bahadur Canal). The lake's capacity is 2.55 TMC.

There is a proposal to store Dummugudem project water in it.

and here is the link Palair lake - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
There are plans to develop this as water sports and tourism destination.

Shashi, glad to know that your folks got married there. We also see a lot of newly weds there for the pooja and kalyanam. Very busy temple that way.

Fordmanchau, excellent report and details. Will serve as reference.

What is your opinion on the likely condition of suryapet - khammam- rajahmundry route during / after monsoon.

thanks in advance

Thanks Night_Hawk,

It depends where you are headed to , if to Khammam or Rajamundhry, then this is a good route, but again you can turn off for these places from the 4 laned Vizag highway.
When I went , the monsoon had just started last year and the roads were freshly laid. I hope that roads on this route are being maintained well as it is also important for mining company on that route.
But considering that last year we had extended monsoon, you can expect some rough patches.
Otherwise the route is very green and scenic and you would have to drive carefully as it's a single lane-two way traffic road.
If headed to Annavaram or vizag then obviously the 4 laned highway makes more sense. Saves a lot of time and you'll get better FE too.
