A trip to Melukote-- Just a photologue

So I am back to travelogue section.

Last week we had been to Melukote which is almost 50kms from Mysore and around 130kms from Bangalore

After Mandya(~5kms) you have to take a deviation from the main Mysore-Bangalore highway to reach this place. From this junction it is around 33kms.

Road from this junction is are wonderful and scenic.

From Melukote to Mysore the roads are similar to Hassan to Belur with no traffic.

Anyway let us start with the pics....

Some pics en-route to Melukote.

Pics are self explanatory for some.

Where did you stay, and what to expect if i would like to go there. Was this a weekend trip or needed more number of days than just the weekend?

Pictures look good, more would be lovely.

Thanks Mayank. No need for staying. This is just 130kms from Bangalore. You can do this as a Weekend trip. Apart from this hill temple there is nothing. You can combine this with any Mysore trips also.

Re: A trip to Melukote-- Just a photologue

Some info which I know about Melukote

* The place is also known as Thirunarayanapuram.
* It is built on rocky hills known as Yadavagiri
* In the 14th century, the place suffered at the hands of Muslim invaders and the hoysala kings settled at Tonnur( the present picnic spot which is called Tonnur kere)
* There is a sanskrit academy which was estb by GOK(I know this because I was an intern learning Upanishads when I was a kid)

My truck snap was taken from the top of the hill

Re: A trip to Melukote-- Just a photologue

Nice pictures ! Thanks for sharing.

This one has always been at the back of my mind but never did it though I've been on the Bangalore-Mysore stretch innumerable times over the last several years. Good to know that the 33 Km stretch from Mandya is also good.
After we take the deviation from Mandya is it just one road all the way to the temple or any more deviations ? If you could give some more details for the directions, it would be really helpful.

NPV, It is one straight road with good signages. Go now or after the rain when the valley is green and beautiful.

Also, don't miss visiting the beautiful Hoysala temple in Hosaholalu on outskirts of KR Pet which is a short distance from Melkote. Also visit Hemagiri - a short distnace from KR Pet - which has a small barrage on Hemavathi creating a beautiful water fall

Picturs of Hemagiri - At Hemagiri falls - Photo

Hosaholalu - Temples of Karnataka - Hosaholalu - Sri.Lakshmi Narayana Temple

Dont miss Kere Tonnur or Tonnur lake which is really beautiful which is also closeby.

Some pics here - Shyam's - photoblog: Tonnur Kere
