Hyderabad to Horsley Hills in The Viceroy

A word of advice to all people planning trips to Horsley Hills and nearby places : Carry enough cash!

These places are still yet to catch up with times when it comes to card payments. Hence carry enough cash with you when you visit such places. The fuel stations in these areas don't accept cards. The A.P. Tourism resort at Horsley Hills accepts cards but it can go out of order anytime! When I was there, it worked fine one day and the next day it was out of order! They even have a sign board prepared that says something like: CREDIT CARD MACHINE NOT WORKING! I at times doubt whether the machine is really out of order or are the staff too lazy to swipe the card!!

Regards and Keep Revving,

Rahul Waghmare.

Re: Hyderabad to Horsley Hills in The Viceroy

Wow , nice write up, enjoyed it and lots of good photos too. Had been to Horsley hills in 2006 and also visited Rishi Valley school too with its wonderful campus. Incidentally we got a full ayurvedic massage done at the resort by Santigiri Ayurveda.

We had a cool holiday, felt quite peaceful there without any rush.

Talakona looks very inviting, does the forest department provide accomodation there.

Thanks for going through the travelogue! Yes, the Talakona Forest Resort does have log huts for accommodation. Not sure of the prices though.

Re: Hyderabad to Horsley Hills in The Viceroy

Hey Rahul, I need some review on the hotel you stayed there. A friend couple is planning to visit the hills and stay for a night. Is it a good enough place and what all hotel options available? Thanks in advance.

Your Viceroy always reminds me of the void I have had. I always wanted to own the Viceroy and just couldn't get during those days.

The only hotel there is the AP Tourism Resort. It has different types of rooms ranging from dorms to bungalows. In May 2011, the tariffs ranged from 700.00 per day for a cottage to around 5500.00 per day for the bungalow. Different names have been given to different types of rooms around the resort.

I can give a brief review about Wild Winds which I had booked. The tariff was about 2000.00 per day. It included breakfast and swimming pool coupons. Wild Winds accommodation was as good as a small flat.

The drawing room consisted of a couple of single-seater sofas, a coffee table, a small bed and a writing desk.

There was a small kitchen like room with a mini fridge, an electric kettle, a water jug and a couple of glasses.

The bedroom had two single beds, a wardrobe, a couple of chairs and TV.

The washroom had an individual geyser that could be used at any time.

For lunch and dinner, you can either go to the restaurant or use the room service. Overall it was very decent.

Try this link for the latest tariff/booking: http://218.248.2.228/aptdc/

I no longer have the Viceroy. Sold it in April 2013.

Re: Hyderabad to Horsley Hills in The Viceroy

Hi Rahul

Hope you and your family is doing good. Was going through this thread today felt really nostalgi about the old days. I guess its time for you to create travelogues for the subsequent trips that you took in the viceroy and in other recent vehicles owned by you.

may be the trips that you took to Pune and other places with the new family member would be remarkable.

take care '

regards

Sushil

Re: Hyderabad to Horsley Hills in The Viceroy

This is such a lovely write up! My native is close to Horsley Hills, about 30 km away and we always had a fun time during our summer holidays! We haven't been there in a long time! Need to visit post lockdown!
